Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. The torso movement is a result of or counter to the momentum created as my right elbow rotates from roughly pointing straight forward to straight back. This corresponds to the movement of my hand from the high position to the grip. By the time my hand arrives at a position just over or along side the grip, the small forward-and-back movement of my hip will have popped the gun loose from the retaining clip. I find this small forward and back movement is very hard to stop when moving my hand fast; it is equally sudden to and opposite of the acceleration in my arm as it rotates to position my hand at the gun. So the result is a very small and violent "snap" of the hip. Maybe this is a result of years of martial arts training in which the hip drives most arm movements, or maybe this is just clutzy on my part. Whatever the case, it needs to be fixed either with a holster that is secure under this acceleration, or by learning how to suppress the hip snap. It has occurred to me that a lower holster position might help a bit, but I am resisting that because of the large hands problem. Not much room for my thumb between pistol and hangar parts once the holster drops the grip front strap much below the belt.
  2. Hi all, I just bought a 9mm CZ Tactical Sports for use as a steel challenge gun. I thought I would try a speed rig for the first time and bought a CR WSM II . However, some dry fire practice with this setup has me running a bit scared. Not sure if I am up to using it with live ammo. What has me worried is the draw from surrender. I am working with a timer to try and develop a 1 sec draw and when I push the speed I have enough torso movement to pop the gun from the holster before my hand is even on it. This does not happen from a low ready and I suspect practice will still my body enough so this is not a problem. but until then I feel at risk using this thing. Are there additional setup steps I should be making to make this thing safe? more shims or a different retention clip? Or should I try a Safariland 014? This one has reviewers saying it will not release on forward movement so maybe it is more clutz-proof? Or should I just stay with a standard bladetech belt ride holster until my draw is a bit more polished? It didn't help that when I was looking for reviews on these things I found an account of someone shooting himself with one (the CR) Any advice would be appreciated.
  3. I also have large hands. I have the cz sp01 with the rubber grips, which fill the hand and feel better than the flat aluminum ones. The problem is the single action trigger reach. Too short!, I can still work the trigger inside of the first joint for precise shooting, but this is not optimal at all. A more correct trigger position puts a lot of space between trigger finger and frame, and requires more flexibility than comes naturally. With that said, for typical IDPA/USPA use I have adapted reasonably well. I also have a para pro custom 16-40 for limited class. This is really a pretty good fit. I have shot it just enough to be a bit sad that Para couldn't solve their out of the box reliability problems and make it on their own. Given enough work, these make really nice guns for the big-handed. The gen 4 glock 34/35s with large backstraps are surprisingly good but the finger grooves suck and will probably need to be ground off (or you will be growing some really big callous's where you don't particularly want them). I think I shoot these better than anything else but removing the finger groves throws you into IDPA ESP. Not sure about USPA production as I shot the 35 limited prior to finding the para.
  4. As per the Topic Title. I have two para pro customs 16.40s that exhibit this problem. I had an acquaintance tell me his paras initially did the same. He said just replace the magazine follower with an STI follower from Dawson. Can anyone here tell me if there is something to this? If this is a know fix, can you tell me exactly which followers to buy that will fix the problem? Or should I be looking at a different fix entirely?
  5. I have a Sentry in 9mm and really like it. Unfortunately, it looks like STI has discontinued them. So if you have the opportunity to get a new one, you should probably take it while you can.
  6. Hello all, I am wondering exactly what I can do to a glock grip and still have it legal for SSP or ESP. My problem is the finger grooves. I really want them gone. Some enhanced stippling might not hurt either although I get along pretty well with the gen 4 texture. Is this possible for ESP? I have read the rule about no Robar-type reductions, but am not sure what constitutes a Robar reduction? and does grinding down finger grooves count? Also, I believe Glock gen 2 was made without the cursed things so I feel a bit put out by rules that would require me to suffer them just cause glock started making them in later generations. Thanks in advance for any info.
  7. A better way to say that is what I heard one shooter say to another when I watched my first IDPA match. "I am better than 99% of the shooters out there. The problem is the other 1% are all here tonight"
