  1. Maybe you are just more sensitive to what is going between you and your gun. With experience, a minor hesitation or mistake seems like the end of the world.
  2. Shooting a 586 no dash, 3.1 gr 231, Federal match primers for 50 yards for 1500. Using Precison 158 swaged swc. I don't think the rifling is fast enough for hbwc at 50 unlike my Douglas barreled K frame.
  3. You might check the lower pin on your comp 3's, if it is pushed out one side it will interfere with the spring and not lock the cartridges. I use the loading blocks for everything from IDPA to PPC with both standard comp 3's and cut ones. Round nose to full wad cutters.
  4. That is an easy one. Safariland makes the 568 which with the paddle provides a great holster for production or any other competition use. The price point is excellent and midway offers free shipping. The belt loop option does not ride as nice but allows you to use a belt wider than 1.50-1.75. The belt loop rides a bit higher and puts all the weight on one narrower location of the belt like many other holsters. The paddle distributes the weight. On the heavier guns like the N frame or L frame , the older padded paddle(look in gun shows) is a great replacement for the current synthetic paddle.
  5. George said it all. This is treading in the area we settled on a few years ago about a dual penalty for the same violation i.e. double jeopardy.
  6. If one Dq's , one had best be able to point at a specific rule justifying it. Unsportsmanlike like conduct is the last and weakest reason, when one needs to get one off the range and nothing else works.
  7. Some of you are breaking my heart. The 586 and 686 no dash are the best that S&W came out with as a production gun. The 586 no dash and 686 were S&W shot at competing with the Colt Python. There were a couple of minor teething problems. They were the fixed hand which if done right gave a really crisp trigger, but if done wrong needed adjustment. Additionally the 124 gr .357 Remington came out and the gun was not set up for it. Ended up with primer flow from those rounds coming back onto the firing pin and bushing. S&W , for nothing, will change out the bushing and firing pin and deal with the problem if you shoot those rounds. Trade your 686 no dash out to someone who appreciates the best of the best S&W and buy yourself something else to chop up. Jim
  8. That would be about right. I had a -7 that S&W had to replace the cylinder as the boring was so bad.
  9. Using that line of thought the only division would be open.
  10. Just sold my 686 performance center mim parts gun after three trips back to the performance center and 2 trips to a really good gun smith. My 586 no dash and 586-1 will go with me to my grave.
  11. Yep, the problem is due to the cumulative nature of gun modifications allowed . My Glock 19 is a carry gun, modified to fit small hands. Those truly focused on being competitive in ESP are addting the mag well which adds a fraction of a second, shooting a Glock 17 with another 1/2" of sight radius adding another fraction of a second, on and on. In the end my carry gun , simply modified to fit small hands, cannot compete at the same level as I am fighting the edge on equipment.. Jim
  12. I like it, I have small hands and had to do a grip reduction on my Glock 19 to be able to shoot it adequately. Up to this division I was consigned to a division where the gun was frankly non competitive.
  13. Good catch, there were probably still rounds in the cylinder. Going to have to make it safe in the bay. Jim
  14. It was a normal malfunction for a revolver. The bullet, not a loaded round, was stuck between the forcing cone and the cylinder. Once you determined it was just a piece of lead, treat it the same as a piece of lead stuck solely in the barrel. If it could not be readily cleared in the bay, get him into the safety area to play with it. Jim
  15. Squib is just a piece of lead in the barrel. It isn't ammo. So taking it to the safe area is fine. If the gun had jammed, as in a failure to feed,, that would have to be cleared in the bay. If it could not be cleared, call for a gun smith who can make the gun unable to fire and thus safe, bag it and the shooter can leave the bay with a bagged gun. Jim
  16. Before putting a squib rod down the barrel, the RO should end the course of fire. This prevents the shooter from being DQ'd for sweeping himself during the course of fire. The RO must then take whatever steps are needed to determine the gun is in a non fireable condition. The shooter can then be escorted to the safe area to clear the squib. The stage is scored as shot. No reshoot should occur. Jim
  17. Let me wade into the murky waters of the civilian PPC match, which I run, and the police PPC. I originally started the civilian 1500 in Phoenix in conjuction with the police PPC since I liked the shooting demands. Although the match is not recognized as part to the police PPC structure, the scores are submitted to NRA and are accepted for classification purposes in the police PPC structure (per police PPC participants).. Jim Gross
  18. What , you don't like an 180 degree circle?
  19. If it gives them no advantage, it just makes them feel clever.
  20. That would have been the last time I RO'd for that MD. Jim
  21. I shoot all three locations. Rio has trap Monday thru Friday. They only have one trap set up , but during the week that is not an issue. Be aware, Tuesday is wobble trap and the throwers are dialed fast. They also have 5 stand and a 12 station sporting clays course. Check their calendar for the 5 stand. The sporting clays course is open 7 days a week. They also have an excellent monthly Icore match , they tend to schedule classifiers only a couple times per year and have all the stages set up as classifiers. I understand they have a Bullseye group, but I believe it is of fairly recent origin. Not aware of any IDPA. Regarding Phx Rod and Gun: They shine for Bullseye shooting and IDPA. However, no trap range although they have a couple of manual throwers, bring an assistant with strong arms. Phx also has a well attended Icore match on a monthly basis. Most of the round gun shooters (including me) tend to shoot both the Rio and the Phx Rod and Gun match as they do not conflict. Regarding Ben Avery: One of the States best clay clubs and one of the country's best ranges. I shoot clays at that range. Being a good drive , I am unfamiliar with their Bullseye or Icore program.
  22. I find that practice with loading my moon clipped gun helps loading with speed loaders. However, my moon clipped gun is a 6 banger and that might make the practice more relevant.
  23. Just a square flat front instead of a ramp. The ramp sight allows drawing from a leather holster without hanging up on leather or threads. .
  24. Under the new rules, it appears installing patridge front sights in place of the ramp sights are no longer legal for classic division?
  25. Had an extra cylinder for my 686-7 cut for the proper angle for 9mm or 9x23. At has a .357 barrel. Used my existing 38 super moon clips with 9mm brass. Results were never consistent. My plated reloads of various diameters worked ok out of a stationary revolver, but when I shot the same reloads at the IDPA classifier I had a number of key holes. Best experience was with fmj factory ammo, but that was nothing to should about. Finally just gave up finding a decent load. Jim
