Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Finally got a picture of the Dawson's sights.

.125 notch rear with a .125 wide front.

  2. Oooh, that's a nice setup. Any chance we could get a pic of the sight picture with the Dawsons on there? I'm in kind of the same boat. I really dig the Xrays, but they are just huge for any precision at 25 yards and out.

    Nice!

Awesome! I'm curious to see how the SIG red dots work out. I've tried a couple of RMRs and just can't get used to small window and the heavy tint on the glass.
  4. Lol, sorry TR I didn't mean to do that. For their part SIG treated me really well. I had the gun back in two weeks with a new frame, and 3 extra magazines for my troubles. I think it really depends on which CS person you get though, but that's been the case at every gun manufacturer that I've dealt with. I've handled one 226 SAO and nearly bought it on the spot, but it was at Scottsdale Gun Club and they wanted about $200 over market. The trigger was the nicest SA pull I've tried short of a Nighthawk.
  5. I picked up a P229 Legion 9mm about 8 months ago. I had some issues out of the gate with it (crooked front sight, then flaky finish) that SIG promptly took care of and compensated me for. It has since had a little over 4,000 rounds through it with zero malfunctions. The 229 has quickly become my favorite pistol. I've traditionally been a Glock guy and still own a G19, but it just doesn't get shot much since I got the SIG. I shoot both of them about the same as far as split times and scores go, but the P229 is just such a more enjoyable "experience". I genuinely enjoy taking it out to the range. It's also cool to see other SIG shooters, because they are usually enthusiasts that enjoy talking SIGs. My 229 is also, I think, the only pistol I've owned where I don't plan on changing a single thing. The trigger is already very good, the grip and finish are beautiful, and the sights are fast but still allow accuracy at 25 yards and out. It really doesn't get much better. The only downside I can think of from a purely utilitarian point, is that a Glock/M&P/320 will do about the same thing for half of the cost. But then they are also plastic and hideously ugly . Just a heads up on IDPA: as far as I know the 226 SAO Legion will not fit in the IDPA box. It's fractionally too wide at the ambi safety.
  6. I'm not sure it's what you had in mind, but they are to an extent already doing that with the Legions. I think that they changed the grip enough that it feels significantly different (better) than a standard P-series gun. I'm really not sure I can think of any way to improve it. Maybe an unobtanium grip medallion for balance? I don't know, just thinking out loud.
  7. Well that reason is definitely not customer service. I had a Vicker's Glock 19 that was stovepiping and giving me brass to the face even after a new extractor, "updated" ejector, and different magazines. Glock had zero interest in fixing it, but suggested that I could pay to ship it to them if I really wanted to. S&W should have fixed your crap barrel with a new one immediately though, what they did is unacceptable.
  8. It would just be for fun. My skill is a much more limiting factor than the gun would ever be, so I'm not worried about the gun being competitive. I just want to knock over some steel and shoot fire out of the top of the barrel. For now optics have no home in IDPA. There is a new Glock 19 class though, so that's cool.
  9. I did a search for this and didn't find much, sorry if it's been asked before. I have taken quite a liking to the new CORE ported 4.25" models, and need a bit of help on caliber selection. I'm trying to decide between 9mm and .40. I currently shoot in IDPA, but I've become a huge fan of RMR'd pistols so I'm looking to try USPSA Open. I just shoot for fun, not worried about getting my GM card any time soon. 9mm- I already load and shoot a lot of 9mm, so it would be convenient. I would only load it to minor though, and I'm not sure how well ported pistols work with little 135PF loads. .40- I don't currently load for this, but I still have all of my dies/brass etc. so it's not all that inconvenient. I could easily load it for major which I imagine would work better in a ported pistol. The only downside that I see is lower mag capacity, but I enjoy reloading anyway. What are your thoughts? 9mm minor or .40 major? Thanks!
  10. Hi everyone. I was sitting here reading post after post about getting into USPSA again, and I thought that I might as well just sign up and join the party. I used to shoot IDPA back in 2003-2004 and shot SSP Master with a Glock 35. What does that make me maybe a D+ shooter in USPSA? I kid, I kid. Anyway, my "skills" have rusted to the point where there are holes in the metal, but I want to get back into competitive shooting. I moved to AZ last year for dental school, and this magical place of freedom and cacti has really rekindled my interest in shooting. I have kind of moved away from Glocks after I had 3 separate guns that failed miserably, which is painful for me to say since my beloved G35 back in the day had well over 20k rounds with no malfunctions. I have been a dedicated fanboy for over 15 years as a matter of fact. My reloading bench has a Glock poster over it for crying out loud. And a metal Glock sign. Anyway. Long story short, I am giving the M&P a shot and now carry a M&P 9c. Since I have an IDPA background, I'm interested mainly in Production. I got fed up with the IDPA rules (I like moving and reloading) so I've ruled that out for now. I also have an interest in selling everything I own and buying an STI Edge and running limited. Anyway, it's good to be here and I'm excited to get back into it.
