Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Admittedly, there is a bit of a "that's what all the cool kids are shooting/new guns are cool" aspect to it. We certainly don't view it as "it is holding us back" as we have not placed that well at a major match--we realize there a ton of other things that we need to work on. I think part of this has come from shooting a friend's 2011 a bit and seeing how well we like the platform. It really made the farther 30+ yards easier to hit after running around with the long guns. When we shot the 3GN Eastern Regionals, we only saw 2 other people who were shooting "plastic guns." Since it seemed like basically everyone is shooting a 2011, how much of an advantage does it give you and how much is it "well, everyone else is using this, so I should too"?
  2. My wife and I currently shoot M&P9s and are looking at moving to a 2011 platform. While we would love some of the more expensive/custom options, we would be buying 2 and so price is certainly a consideration. Also, before I buy a couple of custom 2011s, I would like some experience with the platform to know what options I would want. Right now, I'm looking at either an STI Edge or Eagle. Also, I'm thinking about going with 9mm instead of 40. While we shoot USPSA (currently Production), we both want to focus more on 3 Gun. We shoot our local USPSA matches and shoot the state match, but moving forward, any travel we do will be fore 3 Gun. In some of the threads I've read about this, people say "just go with 40 since you have it" since they are coming from USPSA Limited. Is there any disadvantage to going with the 9mm? Yes, I realize we will be shooting Limited Minor in USPSA, but like I said, almost all of our shooting will be at our local club. These would really be "3 Gun dedicated" and USPSA matches would be "3 Gun practice." In some of the threads, people talk about the Edge being too heavy (more than needed for 9mm). It seems like the extra weight would help in 3G... after running around a bit, it might serve as a stabilizer to make the longer shots. Any input would be appreciated!

  4. I'm running the SLR gas block with the stretch, JP LMOS, and the JPSCS with reduced power spring and haven't had an issue so far. I'm in day two of a week-long class and am at close to 500 rounds so far and haven't had an issue. I don't know the exact gas setting, but I know it isn't wide open and it's a pleasure to shoot. I never think it's a bad idea to tune a system to optimal performance, however minimal the gain may seem. I'm building rifles for my wife and myself and am planning on using the JP LMOS and JP SCS as well. How much of a benefit is there with using an adjustable gas block instead of the supplied gas block? I'm trying to decide if it is worth getting an adjustable one right now, or see how it shoots and possibly switching it out later.
  5. How does it do with having all the extra weight? My wife shoots 3 gun with me and I'm debating if a double stroller will work for all our gear and 4 long guns, or if I can cram everything into one.
  6. My wife and I started shooting USPSA (Production) this year, and I'm looking to buy Safariland ELS belts for both of us. We would also like to start shooting in 3-Gun this year, and these really seem to be the best option. I did have a couple questions on the belts: 1. Should I go with 771 vs. 773 mag pouches? I've read several threads on this and I'm still not sure. Is one better than the other considering we will be doing 3-Gun as well? I've also seen the "771 for the first pouch, and 773s for the remaining spots. Also, I'm thinking of 6 mag pouches. 2. I'm planning on the QLS attachment for the holsters, but I've seen some people say they used a regular ELS clip. Any recommendations? 3. We are currently shooting M&P9s and using Comp-Tac International holsters with the drop offset attachments. Is this a usable setup with the QLS or ELS attachments and still maintaining the 2" rule? Or, do I need something like the Invictus Practical Holster Hanger? 4. How do I size the belts? Do I match up my pant size to the belt size, or do I need to go bigger than my pant size? Thanks for the help!
