Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Another good load to try is 2.6 of WST or 3.1 of 231 behind a Remington 148 gr HBWC or Percision Delta 148 gr HBWC. i have seen stock 4" and 6" 686's shoot 1 1/4 groups at 50 yards out a ransom rest.
  2. You never dry fire with the side plate OFF! keep doing it and you Will break the hammer pin, ( no support on the pin ) the sear does not have enough clearance to pick up on the trigger, Smith & Wesson Armors school says there is 51 known problems you can have on a revolver ( That's a lot ).
  3. Whoever is running Smith & Wesson's Quality Control needs to be fired, like Lonnie said the 1911's are running good that's because they're easy to throw together, (not a lot of bench time ) where as the revolvers take a little more time to do it right, or maybe they just don't care because there selling the guns anyway.
  4. Toolguy has it right do it and it will be fixed, Smith & wessons Armor shool says that there is 51 known problams on a revolver i say theres 52.
  5. I have to be careful what i say here but S&W needs to put more heart into there guns, it used to be everyone would look for a gun that Roy Jinks put together ( i hope i spelled his name right and i am showing my age) but that's when you would get a good gun, i am not to saying the guns now are not good but i don't think the armors that are putting these guns together are not that good, i have seen guns come back from the performance center that had shims put in the cylinder to take care of cylinder end shake that's not how you fix end shake you stretch the yoke, that's right out of there armor school, they say there's 51 known problems on a Smith & Wesson Revolver i say there is 52.
  6. Oh ya i forgot to say your barrel is a 1&10 twist.
  7. Oh it gets better, wait till you check it for accuracy the throat in the cylinder is cut .357 it should be .355 its a 38 cylinder not a 9MM,i know of 4 of them that are the same way and one was sent back and got a new barrel, cylinder, hammer & trigger, accuracy test at 50 yards was 2" my stock L frame shoots 1.500 or better at 50 yards, i think Smith & Wesson needs to look at there QC or lack of, other the that its a neat gun i hope they fix it.
  8. I heard your range was set up like The Bianchi Cup, that should be a good warm up match.
  9. I have seen some good groups from these barrels, if you can put it in a ransom rest and work up your load, you should get 3/4" groups or better at 25 yards with the right load.
  10. i know a guy that would Hone all the cylinders the same size within .0001 using a bore gauge, try cheking yours, i think i will send mine out and have it honed.
  11. I Appreciate all your input, here's what i know these 9mm 929's are not grouping with a 1&10 twist, i know 38's group OK with a 1&10 twist but not 9mm, a lot of the open class PPC shooters are running 1&16, 1&21 and 1&32 twist barrels and they are getting groups as tight as 1" at 50 yards, six of the chambers are measuring .3572 and two are at .3568 ( cut for 38 not 9mm),i think it will be fun to see how tight we can get it to shoot.
  12. something else to try if you can find one is a Python Partridge front sight you will get a better sight picture.
