  1. You may want to try a dovetail mount to see if you like it before you cut your slide...I have one on a CZ P07, works really well.
  2. It seems from this statement, that the finger was outside the trigger guard while operating the slide and the finger was placed back on the trigger in order to fire the shot into a target. I am certainly no expert here, but I don't think it should be a DQ.
  3. I am not sure if this is any help in this situation, but this is the closest thing I have found to a definition of the 180. 10.5 Match Disqualification –Unsafe Gun Handling 10.5.2 If at any time during the course of fire, a competitor allows the muzzle of his handgun to point rearwards, that is further than 90 degrees from the median intercept of the backstop, or in the case of no backstop, allows the muzzle to point up range, whether the handgun is loaded or not I am guessing that the side berm would now be the backstop.
  4. Thanks for the assistance and input. I shot my first carry optics match today. It is the best match I have shot in months, and I am still slow on the first shot. I am very optimistic about shooting this division. I have committed to giving it at least 6 months without shooting any iron sight guns. Again, thank you all. You have really helped me.
  5. Well, I have run into another issue. My 13 yr old cannot rack the slide on the P-07 with the dot mounted. He used to be able to come over the top of the slide and it improved his grip on the small CZ slide. Do y'all think it would be a problem if he used the front serrations and the back of his hand pressed on the sight to help with leverage? I'm not comfortable with it, but maybe someone here can assure me he isn't going to put enough stress on the sight or mount to break something, or knock it loose.
  6. I just set up a CZ P-07 for my youngest son with a dovetail mount. I really like the short gun, it shot pretty well yesterday when I took it out to zero the dot.
  7. I would love to have a carry optic forum.
  8. I took the G34 to the range this morning to zero the dot. I used a handgun rest from my silhouette days to keep everything steady. Good news: can head-shoot a metric target all day long from the rest. The dot is on! Bad news: not only am I going to have to "learn" the dot, but also the Glock trigger...have done some work on it, breaks around 3lbs, but wow. I have been shooting single actions (1911 and CZ) for so long now that I forgot about the plastic trigger. The steel match I was going to tomorrow has been cancelled due to weather, so I am probably gonna stay inside and dry fire like 9,000 times to get a feel for the new beast.
  9. I thought the fire control was the same as the 10/22? I read it somewhere, and you know everything on the internet is true. I was really hoping that we would be able to drop in a BX trigger and go. The one I purchased for my 10/22 broke right at 2.5 lbs., but I sold it because I got the factory stuff to 2.25
  10. So, two of my sons have decided to start shooting with me. My 19 yr old absolutely hates the dot. He is shooting my SA CZ 75 in limited minor. My 13 yr old was handling my "new" carry optics gun (Glock 34), and tells me he likes the grip, must have a dot, but the Glock won't do because the trigger is terrible (I have it breaking at 3#, he hates the feel). I am hoping to pick up a G19 and let him decide between it and my CZ P-07 to convert to carry optics.
  11. Hadn't thought about that yet, but we had a weak hand string in our classifier this weekend. Several people who have not been shooting open/co very long were talking about how much trouble they were having finding the dot left handed. My holster should be here Tuesday. I will dry fire practice all week, take off work Friday (birthday) to go to the range and sight it in, then run it for steel challenge Saturday. That will give me 25 opportunities to draw and shoot during a match before I shoot it in USPSA the following weekend.
  12. I am having a hard time not buying one right now. Just bought a G34 MOS to play carry optics, can't do two new guns and divisions in the same month. I can't wait to see what the after market is gonna do.

  15. I picked up a used Burris FF3 today with a 3moa dot. When I get a holster, I will check it out during some dry fire practice until I can get to the range. If it proves too small, I will steal a Vortex off one of my steel guns and use it.
  16. Lately, I have not been shooting that well for a whole match. Something unforeseen happens, or I just stink it up on a stage or two. I have started looking at the stages I shot well, and try to apply what I did for those to my next match. If you dwell on the negative, it may cease to be fun, and unless you are getting paid to shoot, I think fun should be the number 1 concern.
  17. It will be interesting to see if they made the action long enough for 10mm and 45. Wouldn't it be great to be able to change the bolt, pop off one barrel and put on another one in a different caliber? I wonder if they were thinking forward when they designed it...
  18. I couldn't commit to not being able to shoot my CZ with irons ever again, and the adapter plate just put the dot too high. I am letting my son shoot the CZ and I am going to try thr Glock MOS platform. I am still conflicted on the dot size though.
  19. I'm hoping some aftermarket stocks will be coming out soon. I have an axiom on my 10/22 steel challenge gun, and I love that stock. There is so much potential if the aftermarket jumps in.
  20. If you have a small drill press and a dremel tool, you can make your own. I have a 5.5 field, there is no aftermarket fiber optic sight for it, and I can't shoot with black on black anymore. Use a 1mm drill bit and a 0 finding ruler to get in the right spot.
  21. Thanks for the input. I was thinking about taking the sights off, thought they might be a distraction. I found a G34 MOS for a good price locally, will pick it up this week. I figured I would need a lot of dry fire practice, but wasn't sure about switching back and forth between the dot and irons. I shoot close targets (under 10 yds) with both eyes open now, and my steel challenge rimfires have a dot (much easier to find the dot from low ready, than drawing from a holster). I am still trying to decide between the big dot (6 or 8 moa) and the smaller (3 or 4 moa). I use a 6 minute on my steel pistol and rifle, not sure about trying to squeeze in a shot on a partial target at 20 yds though.
  22. Well, my eyes have determined that I might need to move to a dot sight and leave my irons alone. I have dabbled in carry optic before, but I really have a hard time finding my dot for the first shot. Once I got going, I didn't lose it while firing, just out of the holster. Do y'all have any suggestions for making this transition easier? Thanks, Jason
  23. I have just started playing with carry optics. I just put a dove tail mount on my production gun. The first shot from the draw is my problem. It is soooo slow. Right now I am much faster with my single stack gun, but the CO showed some promise during a steel match last month. When the dot shows up quickly on the draw, it is really fast. I don't have much of an issue between shots, just picking it up on the draw.
