  1. 9/24/2015 Dryfire Report Started out with prop manipulation. It looked like fun and it's a drill I haven't performed. I did have fun moving it around- got into it a little bit by having the can back and to my right, so on the start I fired while backing up so that I could crouch, grab the can, and move it, then resume firing. I did some reload component drills, into a reload drill (1 second par) and I was able to make it each time, which I was pleased with. My reloads kinda suck. I feel it's something that's holding me back on the classifiers that have mandatory reloads. Showing improvement though. Keep on truckin'.
  2. 9/22/2015 Match Report Open Div - 2nd of 4 - 76.112% Overall - 2nd of 12 - 76.112% I got invited by one of the open Ms I shoot with to go to his "home" match, an action pistol match he helps run. With Tuesdays done at MRS I agreed and decided to check it out. It's a short match but pretty fun. Holy crap it's so loud to shoot my gun indoors. I wasn't 100% on my game between that and the lighting. Didn't damage my hearing or anything (I was doubled up on earpro) but it was enough to throw me off. I think I'll be used to it next time. Astigmatism sucks. The lighting inside is just low enough to make my dot turn into a squiggle. Oh well, I can deal.
  3. 9/21/2015 Dryfire Report Did El Prez for about 45 minutes. It's amazing how much it destroys me. I experimented with different hand positions. I was having trouble at one point where I would crush the gun like normal, but not be able to hit the mag button and stand there for a sec. Why didn't I rotate it? Arg! It got better near the end, but then I got tired. Rounded out the hour with some SHO/WHO, which turned into me running "Baseball Standards" for fun, basically just doing some bills with hand variation.
  4. What you're missing is what a "valid" score is. It's not literally your 8 most recent classifiers, it's your 8 most recent valid ones. Valid classifiers for a GM are 90-100%, everything lower than that is not valid, meaning he can have scores that are months or years old that are still part of his current classification. If he were to shoot another 96%, for example, his 8th, the oldest score, would drop. For a D-class shooter, every score above 2% will be valid.
  5. WHO trepidation is pretty common. What really helped me was, when dryfiring, doing the drill and then doing it again SHO/WHO. Weak hand no longer bothers me when I have to do it.
  6. 9/20/2015 Match Report Open Div - 4th of 25 - 81.038% B-Class - 1st of 5 Overall - 5th of 83 - 81.038% 1324 of 1440 available points - 232A 1B 48C 4D 3M 1P - 91.94% (95.76% without penalties) We had the (locally) much-anticipated MRCPS Monster HandinHand Charity Hosefest. 7 stages / 400ish rounds. No no-shoots, hardcover, or steel except on the one all-steel stage. I didn't really care about a match pace, I wanted to shoot in the spirit of the match and hose it! So I made a few mistakes. One foot fault, one honest mike. One mike due to a mental malfunction (gun ran dry at the last target) and one mike due to a gun jam- I reasoned that in both cases, reloading and firing the last shot was going to be detrimental to my score. It's amazing how little a mike matters on a 300 point stage though. I shot the steel stage really well. All the side plates on the move. I ended up placing with the masters overall and beating all the A/B classers, which seems fairly typical for me recently. Overall it was a great success! MD says we shot 30,000 rounds as a whole and raised $5500 for charity.
  7. F coded classifiers are not dropped, they're just not averaged in the best 6 of the most recent 8. If your 42% was your oldest of your 8 and you shot a 9%, the 42% would drop off. It might be F-coded, but it still is a valid score of your most recent 8. Remember that classifiers under 2% are not counted, so D class is effectively 2-40%.
  8. Fun idea! Maybe this will give me the bump I need to make A. Add me for open? A89438
  9. 9/17/2015 Match Report Open Div - 1st of 2 - 100% Overall - 1st of 12 - 100% 475 of 475 available points - 95A - 100% (No penalties) I showed up for the Thursday match and they said they were making it all steel on account of the torrential rain! The rain quit before the match started but they kept the steel, which is fine by me. It was a small match, not many people, but it was fun. There were a few times when I really needed to stop mashing the trigger to make plates fall over and a few times where it really clicked and I hit everything. Stage 3 was great in particular, shooting the vertical plate rack in 2.5 seconds was a hoot. Stage 4, not so good. Misc Getting ready for the charity outlaw hosefest match we have on the weekend, getting all my ammo ready to go. This is one of the stages:
  10. 9/16/2015 Dryfire Report I worked on transitions some more today and feel like I've been making real progress. I tried gradually widening transitions for the first time today and it was fun! I ran out of wall space under my TV actually, downsides of dryfiring in my living room. Maybe I can make the targets smaller to increase the difficulty. Ended with the Hopkins dot drill which is one I particularly like. I'm wondering, it seems the goal of the drill is to get you used to having a "good enough" sight picture, would using a slightly larger 'dot' help with that goal? I was trying it today with 1/3 scale plates which are fairly small but obviously a lot larger than a thumbtack. I would get in the rough area of the tack with my dot vs. ending within the plate circle. Is interesting.
  11. 9/15/2015 Match Report Open Div - 1st of 4 - 100% Overall - 1st of 26 - 100% Classifier 99-23 "Front Sight" - 9.8901 HF - 68.25% 455 of 500 available points - 67A 27C 6D - 91% (No penalties) Our last Tuesday match of the season at MRS. I'll miss them! I thought I shot pretty well except for the stage in the dark, where I dropped, relatively, a lot of points. Oh well. I'll have to find something else to shoot during the week. There's an indoor match I've been interested in trying...
  12. 9/14/2015 Dryfire for today Had a few stages on the weekend that were a lot of wide, side to side transitions. I felt like this exposed a weakness of mine. So! I dryfired 90 and 180 degree transitions and wow, immediate improvement. First few times I would swing the gun too far especially on the 180 transition, but I got it down pat pretty quick. Will continue to work on this, I liked it. Finished up with reloads. I can more consistently nail them all now, including not forgetting I have a 2nd magazine pouch. I only ever use the first one on a stage! Misc Dangit. So close. Ironically, Sunday's classifier puts me at 76%. If I can not shoot some 60s or something I guess I'll be A in October!
  13. 9/12-9/13/2015 Weekend Matches I shot an "action pistol" outlaw match on Saturday. I was consistently shooting low and couldn't figure out why- turns out one of the mounting screws on my optic was loose, the front one, raising the sight just slightly to lower my POI. Fixing it took me out of the running, more or less. Oh well. I'll remember to check my zero before each match. On Sunday, Open Div - 3rd of 10 - 81.150% B-Class - 1st of 3 Overall - 4th of 56 - 81.150% Classifier 99-28 "Hillbillton Drill" - 8.5758 HF - 79.04% 607 of 650 available points - 101A 3B 24C 2D 1NS - 93.38% (94.92% without penalties) It felt like a good match. I shot at my match pace and didn't go too fast on steel or anything. I had one noshoot on a swinging target (noshoots on swingers, what?). Our local GM is back and shooting after a medical hiatus and man he ruins me. I'm up to shooting like 80% of him instead of 60 though.
  14. 9/11/2015 Dryfire for today I was in a car accident earlier this week, wasn't injured, but sore, so I've been off my dryfire for a few days. Picked up the gun today to get back into things. Started with SHO/WHO because I haven't done them much in matches lately and I wanna keep my weak hand transition solid. I notice that if I don't practice regularly I'll lose the dot on my WHO transition. Finished up with bill drills. One thing I've gotten from all the dryfire is my dot is more consistently in front of my face no matter where I draw to. Misc I cracked my firing pin stop in Utah. Ordered a few more and I spent time fitting one today. Kinda makes you miss the Glock eh? I got a mag tuning kit from Dawson and used it on my unreliable magazines. The feed lips were pretty wide on the worst ones so I hammered them back into spec. Hopefully they work! Dropped some Grams guts into my MBX tubes. Hopefully it cures the nosediving round problem I've been having with them.
  15. Mine always came loose after about 50 rounds to the point where it would barely fit in my racemaster with the screwheads bumping out. I loctited it and it's been okay since.
  16. 9/6/2015 Match Day! Open Div - 3rd of 12 - 78.569% Overall - 5th of 50 - 78.569% Classifier 13-01 "Disaster Factor" - 7.7586 HF - 68.92% 'Nother Sunday match. It was actually pretty weird. The club just purchased a bunch of new steel and I guess they wanted to try it out, because we had basically 3 nearly all-steel stages. I like steel, so that's fine. But not just that! We had a stage where you had to jump into a van and shoot from it, which is the first time I've shot from a car, and we had a stage where we shot from the passenger seat of a moving gator, which is the first time I've shot from a moving vehicle. Was awesome. I did fairly disappointingly on the classifier- I was hoping to make A class next month but I'll be sitting around 72%.
  17. Hey everyone! Just wondering if anyone can lend me some advice. I recently purchased a pair of MBX 170mm magazines, and when using them, I'm having the same problem with both magazines. During use, at some point through the magazine, the round will nosedive, press against the front of the mag body, and jam there. The slide will hang up on the rim and refuse to feed that round. I then have to strip the mag and change to another. I'm using these straight out of the package with round nose 125gr 38 Super. Never had this with my STI magazines. Any ideas?
  18. Thanks for all the info! I am a 3 gun addict and had a lot of nice ranges to shoot at in Tennessee. I want to try USPSA, but for now I just want to use it for 3 gun practice. I am looking into getting a 2011 in 9mm and .40 so I can shoot both. I need to find a range close to get safety checked for USPSA (I had no idea I needed that). I am in Lacey and willing to drive if the matches are worth it No problem! Oh, it occurred to me to mention, Custer is having its yearly Z-pocalypse Toys for Tots charity 3-gun match next month. It's pretty fun. https://practiscore.com/z-pocalypse-2015/register
  19. 9/5/2015 Match Day! Open Div - 2nd of 10 (+4.83s) Overall - 4th of 46 Raw time 244.92 + 10 second penalty I shot the "Crazy Croc" match in Dundee, Oregon. 8 stages and 420 rounds. It was nuts. I would probably put it up as one of the funnest matches I've ever shot, though, the stages were great and I had a hilarious time. It's not often that you have a dummy hanging off your mag pouches as you try to run up a stage. It was time plus scoring since there were so many targets. 1 A/B hit or any 2 on paper to neutralize, FTNs/Procedurals/NS are +5sec, no hits on target +10, FTE +15. My trigger finger is tired.
  20. I've never shot at Port Townsend but I hear it's a fine match. I tend to hit up Custer and Marysville for multigun. Custer has a really nice match- they have huge bays and a match director that makes very interesting stages. They do 2nd Saturday each month. Marysville has slightly smaller bays and the USPSA multigun ruleset I think makes for slightly less interesting stages, but it's still a very fun match. They do 4th Sunday each month. There is a small match (4 stages) 1st Thursday evenings each month at Black Diamond Gun Club. Firearms Academy of Seattle (which is actually in Centralia despite the name) now does 3 gun matches 2nd Sundays. I hear it's an extremely nice range and they only just started doing multigun, never been there myself. There's a large 3 gun scene in Oregon, but I don't know as much about it. COSSA (in Bend) has matches as does Team Croc in Dundee. The USPSA scene is huge here too as others have mentioned. We have USPSA every Sunday if you wanna come out to one of the matches. http://northwestsection.org/
  21. 9/3/2015 Dryfire for today I started out doing draws onto poppers at 10 yards to add some discipline to my first shot, alternating between large and small poppers. I was doing pretty good at .9 second par, .8 second par had me getting just a little wild, but I still mostly hit my shots onto the stem of the popper if not the calibration zone. I felt some improvement with this drill, I like it. For the rest of the session I did transition drills. I started with the hopkins. Never done this one, I like it! I did the patterns in the book but then started doing my own 4 or 6 pattern transitions. I realized early in that I had a tendency to have my eyes follow the gun- I made a conscious effort to drive the gun to my eyes and that really picked up my times. The dot was always where I wanted it! I then moved onto an alternating height transition drill, with up and down spaced targets. I've seen many of these arrays lately (there were a few in Utah) so I thought it'd be a good practice. My fastest times came from going low to high but I was pretty close going high to low too. I then put up a drill I think I got from Triangle Tactical they just called 'all alphas'. I threw up 10 different targets, some paper, some steel (poppers and plates) and then you just transition between them, only getting good A hits, with a reasonable par time, like 10 seconds. If you succeed, you lower it to 8, then to 6, or whatever, and still try to get your good hits. Challenging and I felt like it was improving my transitions.
  22. 9/2/2015 Dryfire for today I worked a lot with 6-reload-6 and El Prez. With reloading I tried a few different methods. Tucking my elbow all the way in seems the fastest, but I often miss the magwell or mash the magazine against it due to the weird angle. Reloading up in front of my face is most reliable (I basically never missed) but it takes a long time. I compromised by pulling the gun in towards my chest just slightly and tilting the gun to accept the mag. I was able to make the par times this way while not flubbing the insertion. El Prez 3.5 seconds spanks me. I am almost never able to make it. I can make 3.8 seconds most of the time. I feel like I'm losing a lot of time on the turn and draw, but it was improving the more that I practiced. I did this for the majority of the hour and my reps fell off in quality dramatically at the end. I'm gonna improve my turn draw if it kills me!
  23. 9/1/2015 Match Day! Open Div - 1st of 5 - 100% Overall - 1st of 24 - 100% Classifier 09-08 "Crackerjack" - 8.0175 HF - 89.08% 363 of 395 available points - 55A 21C 2D 1M - 89.37% We're winding down the season on the Tuesday evening matches. It's getting darker earlier. Rained too, gonna be fun to deal with that again. Good thing I brought my raincoat. I'll have to get a tarp or something for my cart, my range bag apparently isn't waterproof. I won a gun cover at Utah state so I used that, handy! It was a fun little match, nothing special, except! I shot an 89.08% on the classifier, my highest yet and a master score. Getting better!
