Just bought a Mk4 Target and had numerous FTF using CCI Standard (40 gr 1080), Norma Match-22 Elite (40gr 1100), and Wolf Match Extra (40gr 1050). Called Ruger and they said this is common outside the 1100-1400 FPS range. Any suggestions for target ammo in that range? I'll pay for quality, but I just compete for fun in a local league so I'll happily fall back on reliability. Wait. What Ruger told me doesn't make sense to me. Do they use different primers in high velocity rounds?

Anyone know of laser cut grip tape for the WC grips from anywhere? My handcrafting skills are pretty embarrassing.

I don't have much to add, but I put 8000 rounds through a 226 with zero malfunctions and it was mind numbingly accurate. Jut a bad fit for my hands.

Got mine delivered today. Like. A lot. I was an early X5 adopter and I need a small grip (I have short stubby fingers). I have been pissed at Sig for a few years now for their "modular" handgun that comes with one grip size in the X-series format (which, despite the great quality of the X5, drove me to CZ). I've been using a standard 320 small grip which I never really liked but at least it fit my hand. Comparison to standard 320 small grip: - Size is comparable to Sig small. - Wilson's is squarer (more like X-series). - Grip angle is slightly more pronounced. - Front strap is awesome. Back strap is ok. Sides are not grippy (I'll want grip tape). - Beaver tail is slightly higher. - Thumb indent rides lower providing easier access to the mag release. - Undercut trigger guard provides much better middle finger grip. - Grip length is about the same, but the Wilson has a flare at the magwell that makes the grip more secure. There looks to be tungsten slots from the top, but it's a custom system and not compatible with Sig's X-series modules at all. An easy and welcome upgrade choice for me. YMMV.

FWIW. Blew the extractor out. Uninjured. Sig replaced it under warranty.

Until yesterday I have had zero experience with explosive malfunctions (in fact any really - with my Sigs I've only had two malfunctions in 12000 rounds). Can anyone comment on what the likely cause is? Overcharge? Bad case? Out of battery (which worries me most)? Got a little backblast but no injury at all. The grip module looks ok.

I don't think you'll notice much difference in that regard. The big difference for me is that the X5 seems much better balanced. Even using a regular 320 grip module with no grip weight, and with the 5" bull barrel, the X5 feels less top heavy than the 226, and I can get a higher grip. If you don't have to use a small grip module (and if you shoot a 226 happily you obviously don't) then with the stock X5 grip module you will get an even higher grip and a better "feel" with the flat grip shape, and the grip weight too.

Considering P10 for CO. Are the P09 mags coming with the P10 compatible hole yet? Or what other options are you all using for extended mag capacity?

Is CZC doing multi-optic slide milling for it? Any experiences milling the slide from anyone?

How flat can this thing shoot? I'm trying to develop a grip for my X5 and I would like some concrete guidelines to know how I'm doing. I'm not hand loading, but I'm using 130-132 PF factory loads so they're pretty soft. Say, on a 15yd target (or any other benchmark distance you choose) how much should the front sight/dot rise on the target to be "acceptable" for this gun? Using a 14# spring the sights come back on target really quickly, so maybe it doesn't matter that much, but I'm curious all the same. On a few unrelated points that have been discussed elsewhere, I *can* get the slide to return out of battery, but I have to really deliberately try, and if I point the muzzle down the weight of the slide alone will lock it into battery. And when I first got the gun I thought the trigger was super heavy - mine had to be 7# easy. It was still heavy up to about 800 rounds but between 800 and 1100 rounds it lightened up significantly. At this point mine is now about 5# I would say - good enough for a scrubber like me. I haven't done anything but shoot and dry fire it so be patient if you're thinking the stock trigger might be good enough.

Any word on the small grip module? The classic smalls fit, of course, but the profile isn't as good and it's not weighted so it's kind of a cheesy compromise.

Are you hell-bent on a DA/SA? As suggested above, the X5 and Q5/PPQ are nice. I have small-medium hands and very short fingers, so a pretty small grip, and the X5 is shootable as-is and would be fine with a small grip module. The Q5/PPQ fits me well too (the only gun so far I can drop mags w/o altering my grip, although it pinches on mags insertion). CZ P10-C is fully ambi, great ergos, and shoots great apparently (5lb trigger might be an issue). Or for DA/SA there's still the SP01 Tactical if you want the decocker and liked Shadows. Another thought is the P09 or a steel Omega, where he can use the decocker for a bit and switch over later.

Just thought I should confirm this for the benefit of any other digit-challenged people (thanks Alma, for keeping my interest alive). Took a while to get my hands on one, but the grip does seem "similar" to a stock 320 medium grip in my hands. I'll still pick up a small when/if it comes out though.

I imagine a dark, smoke-filled bar. Shot glasses lined up like a Can You Count classifier. Of course, there's a table of 1911 guys too, bickering over where to build the local monument to JMB, their conversation punctuated with choruses of "praised be his name". The door opens and a pimple faced young'un (that would be me) stands in the doorway sporting a P10-C and mags facing the wrong way in their pouches. Y'all turn and squint against the light momentarily and then, without acknowledgement, resume your conversation, swapping stories about when you DQ'ed in '95.

I think Will's on to something with sticking to a single author for a bit - I've just come to the same conclusion. Find someone you can relate to and then run with his stuff for a while. For me it was Steve Anderson. Ben Stoeger's stuff is really good too, but I just related to Steve's books more. Get to Work has had the most influence on me of anything I've read. Improvement was almost instantaneous and I see things completely differently now.

I'm not one of these grizzled old Shadow shooters, so maybe I take a different perspective. USPSA/IPSC is probably the most difficult practical pistol sport (by miles), and Production division (along with Single Stack/Classic) is arguably the most difficult division. For a 12 year old's first gun my concern would be that you are really throwing him in at the deep end - manual decock or not. That's an awful lot to handle. If Production is your/his preferred division, get him a Shadow and let him shoot Standard cocked and locked for a season. Work on the stage planning and decocking offline. Pull him back into Production and manual decocking after he's built up some confidence and familiarity with the sport. Regardless, you might want to let him try out a P10 or P09 as well, as others have suggested. He might prefer a lighter gun.

If you are referring to me as OP, I sat on my hands. I am neither knowledgeable, experienced, nor a good shooter, so I'm not sure you should take anything away from my evaluation either. My conclusions were along these lines... 1. Sight radius is completely meaningless with optics (obviously) 2. Barrel length affects accuracy, load for PF, and any added weight would mitigate recoil, so it's not unimportant 3. 4 1/2" is a good compromise if you want to double-purpose the gun (CO + Prod) 4. The ability to have irons and optics easily on the same gun (not necessarily concurrently) is a big advantage for double-purposing 5. For CO, in particular, the 140mm mag availability, cost and capacity should be included in your comparisons I had decided to go with an OSP when I last posted above. On the way to the store my good intentions got run over by events. I decided to focus on CO, so double-purposing became irrelevant. I picked up a PPQ and discovered what a gun can feel like when it fits me. The Sig 320 X5 became almost tangible. The CZ P10-C was waved under my nose (I have small hands but like a forward break). I tried the E2 grip on my 226 and suddenly found I could shoot it at last, but mag availability made that less desirable for CO. Crippled by indecision, familiar to me from stage planning, I decided to revert to my original optics plan and shoot Open. Hope that helps :-)
