Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I shot the 50 rounds described above without a single hitch. Perfect. Then, I started to shoot some of my remaining “fussy” ammo and had two failures (copper rings) in the first 15 rounds. It would appear that when loaded with more bell and longer OAL the problem has resolved...at least in the first 50 rounds. Thanks to everyone for your input.
  2. Guys, thanks for your input. I just finished loading 50rd of the Berry's 124s. COAL is 1.150. I sorted through and selected just one brand of brass. I increased the bell to the point that the bullet sat easily inside the case. I still had to put a decent amount of crimp to get a nice plunk. Less crimp felt tight in the chamber even though it would still fully plunk. open17 posted above that I should check for a burr. Upon inspection, there may be the slightest irregularity right where one of the rifling ridges ends at the chamber. Who knows if that's enough. I wouldn't even really call it a burr, but it's a slight irregularity that I can feel with a pick. I'm hoping to shoot these 50 rounds after work and see if I have any issues. I know that's not an adequate sample size, but I'll start with that.
  3. 124gr Berry’s on the left, 1.100 115gr factory Win White Box on the right, 1.160
  4. I initially thought that the ring was brass, but I'm now fairly certain that it is copper plating. After work I'll upload a finished round. I appreciate everyone's thoughts.
  5. Factory Winchester white box 115s shot fine. No issue.
  6. I’m reloading for a Sig P365XL that I just purchased. I’ve reloaded 9mm before for several CZ pistols and have never had this issue. I’m having a failure to feed to full battery. The action is just barely not closing. The bullet will chamber, but no bang with trigger pull. After removing the live round, there is a very small ring of metal where the top of the case would sit in the barrel. I can pass a bore brush from the muzzle and push the tiny ring out toward the action. This happened four times today. I’m shooting Berry’s 124gr plated bullets over about 4.2gr of Red Dot. These were loaded on a Dillon 450, 4 stage press. I’m wondering if it’s a crimp issue shaving a piece off as the bullet is exiting the case. I actually pulled about 12 bullets last night and there’s no evidence of damage that would have resulted from inadequate bell. The bullets all looked perfect. One more thing: Saturday, I had a case head separation. It sheared off due to crappy stepped brass. It broke right at the step. It was a nightmare to remove. This also happened to my buddy’s brand new 365XL. (First outing with the new guns for us both). I’m blaming that on stepped brass which we have now weeded out. This is all weird. I’ve got a couple thousand rounds of 9mm down range in my CZs and never experienced anything like this. Thanks for your input.

    Nosedives

I really think it was a dirty mag. Sadly, I haven't shot another match or been to the range yet. Why is it that sometimes you can hear a bullet rattling "loose" inside the magazine? It's only at very specific points, like when 20 bullets are loaded, but not with 19? I assume it's just an odd space where one particular round isn't fully compressed by the spring.

    Nosedives

I've got a new TS....shot my first match Saturday. I'm shooting 165gr Berry's plated bullets 1.125-1.130" lengths. I'm using the extended basepads, 10 coil spring and CZC follower and loading 20 rounds per mag. During my last stage, I had several episodes where I didn't go fully back into battery and had to give the slide a bump forward with my hand. After the stage, I realized that the bullets were not smoothly advancing up the magazine. I know there was a bit of dirt/dust down in the mag after I dropped it in an earlier stage -- not sure if that bound up the magazine. I think the mag spring just wasn't pushing the bullet up high enough to raise the nose of the bullet and it was nose-diving. My other thought was that maybe the extended basepad was hitting the mag well and not seating all the way. I ground it down a bit when I got home. I think that bullet length is appropriate for CZ pistols.... Thoughts?

    CZC mag well stuck!

That may be what I have to do.

    CZC mag well stuck!

Jon- Yes x 2. I wasn't using the retaining pin at all as the plunger tab is extended into the mag well.

    CZC mag well stuck!

I put the IPSC mag well on my TS. It is held in place by the little tab on the mainspring plunger and I'm not using the regular pin that would hold the mainspring in. For the life of me, I can get the plunger in (and tab back in) far enough to conceivably free up the mag well and let it slide off. I have to drive the plunger down with a punch, but nothing's moving once it's sunk in, out of the mag well. Ideas? I'm also a bit bugged that I've dropped a crud load of cash on this mag well and CZC extended base pads only to know learn that the base pads rub the mag well and won't freely enter or drop! That blows. I guess that means more time with the Dremel as I've read from other posts. Lame.

    Did I bugger it up?

CZC require drilling. I pulled pin and it looks the same. Idk?

    Did I bugger it up?

It drilled easily and the pin wasn't tough to get in.
