Dillon XL750 Sizing Problem, Need A Pro Here
4n2t0 replied to damon32382's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
This is a great idea! I would have never assumed that the platform itself might be canted. I'm "meticulously anal" and most would think that my 10+ year old 650 was still brand new, which helps reduce most user induced issues. I really know/understand this machine well. I might have to just start thinking about mechanical failure in the frame/ram/platform. I might also have to setup a camera and record myself reloading in an attempt to see exactly when or how the cases get tilted.- 58 replies

I'll need to independently verify the data, as I always do, but Joe4d laid the foundation for my insane quest to pump as much 296/H110 into a .357 case as humanly possible.

No worries. I've already loaded and shot 17gr. It felt and performed identical to 16.7gr, which was to be expected. Still no visible signs of pressure. Next up, 17.7gr! Yahoo!

Dillon XL750 Sizing Problem, Need A Pro Here
4n2t0 replied to damon32382's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
Thanks for the suggestions, I really do appreciate them all. I tried 1 pin, 2 pins, no pins but the problem persists. I think an alignment tool is in my future as well. I'll wait to hear back from Dillon and update this thread if/when a solution is found in the hopes that it might help someone else. I know many times I search the archives and find a solution to my issues on this forum.- 58 replies

Dillon XL750 Sizing Problem, Need A Pro Here

Both alignment pins are currently being utilized. I'll give it a shot, but since it seems that the case is already tilting towards the center of the press, I doubt allowing the toolhead to float farther away will help.- 58 replies

Dillon XL750 Sizing Problem, Need A Pro Here
4n2t0 replied to damon32382's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
I was reloading 9mm this weekend (147gr bullet over 3.65gr of WST, my favourite recipe) and I decided to take a few more pictures. Different toolhead, different dies (all Dillon), same tilting. Having the press lock up every 4-6 cases really sucks! Has anyone successfully integrated one of these on a 650? It would save me from poking the cases into the sizing die all the time.- 58 replies

There's nothing wrong with the brass as far as I can tell/measure. Maybe I'll double check the toolhead next. Dillon contacted me to obtain more information, hopefully they can provide some advice that will cure the problems I'm having.- 58 replies

The shellplate is clean and tight, no wobble. I might check the brass, I guess you never know. Weird.- 58 replies

Dillon XL750 Sizing Problem, Need A Pro Here
4n2t0 replied to damon32382's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
I know this is an older thread, but did you ever find a solution to this problem? Recently, my 650 started to act up on me, and I'm experiencing a similar problem. My cases tilt outward, and you can see how it affects the brass in the pictures below. I'm forced to constantly poke the cases into the sizing die, or they'll hit the edge of the die and/or get dented. This happens with all calibres, although it is much more noticeable with taller cases like .38/.357. My 650 is spotless. The sizing die is tightened down with a full shellplate and a case drawn up into it to help alignment. The camming pin has been adjusted to insert the case fully. The shellplate is clean and tight, no wobble. I've contacted Dillon, and I'm waiting to hear back from them, but aside from trying their realignment tool, which I don't own, I'm totally out of ideas.- 58 replies

Awesome, thanks. It's still a little too chilly up north for that kinda stuff. Cheers!

Oh man, now I got to load 17.7gr. C'mon guys, stop telling me this stuff before I blow my $hit to smithereens.
-
Went to the range today. Everything went bag. No visible signs of dangerous pressure. SR primers worked well. The load was a little sooty, maybe because of the SRP? Maybe because that's just 296/H110? Anywho, I'm going to load 17gr, because, well, why the hell not! lol. I'll get chrono data in the summer and update this thread at that time. 25 yard target. S&W 66. For my skill level, that's pretty good. A little high but I'll adjust the sights.

I don't inspect pistol cases at all. I load them until they split. I only catch split cases when they don't pass gauging in my hundo. I'll shoot split cases one last time if they aren't too split, lol. 20+ years of reloading, and I've still got all the parts god gave me! Except maybe brains...

After reading the replies I went upstairs and loaded up 15 test rounds using 16.7gr of Win 296 under a 158gr thick plated bullet with a SRP. I'm going to the range on Tuesday to try them out. Starting at the max load, with an untested primer, and a powder I've never used. Hey, I never claimed to be smart, lol. Thanks to everyone who replied. Cheers!

Load difference from .355 to .356 bullets 9mm minor
4n2t0 replied to savagemann's topic in 9mm/38 Caliber
Cool, thanks. I'm very interested in your results. I'm trying to figure out what increase, if any, a better seal would have at minor PF. I might understand with really hot loads, but I've never really noticed a difference at minor and now my interest is piqued. -
I tried searching the forum but search seems to be broken lately (no results, timeouts, very long load times etc.). I'm going to load this powder for the first time this weekend. I know I want to load max or near max. I was wondering what type of velocity I can expect to achieve from 16.7gr under a 158gr plated/FMJ bullet. Does anyone have chrono data of this or something just as stout? I've also seen some older data pushing it to 17gr, anyone try that? I want the biggest KERPOW! possible so that my brother will s#!t his pants when I surprise him with this load, lol.
