  1. I would like to put a fiber front sight on my Witness match. Dawson gives you a plethora of width and height options. I'm shooting at steel plates at 25-yds, my eyesight at close distances is less-than-great, and I'd like to keep using the original adjustable rear sight. Can any of you give me tips for the width/height I should be looking for? Thanks!
  2. I've loaded a batch of 158gr LSWC's for testing 2400. Starting with 14 grs... (14.5, 15, 15.5). This is for my 627 4-inch. (not the PC) Just rechecking my numbers, I'm finding a HUGE variation in published data. The Sierra manual lists 12.1 - 13.9 for it's jacketed round.... which would suggest a cast bullet would be even lower. At the other end, the RCBS guide says 14.5 - 15.5 with muzzle velocities in the 1700s (this is for a CAST bullet...). (this is all from Complete Reloading Manual compendium) Are my loads too hot? Thanks!
  3. I've just installed the Jerry Miculek spring kit into my SW 627. Everything went smoothly until I got to the end, when I noticed this. I've studied the Brownells diagram for this gun and can't see what part it is. And there's a possibility that it is completely unrelated, and was sticking to a magnetized screwdriver in my toolbox. Before I shoot it, though, I wanted to see if any of you can ID this as a part of my gun. Thanks!
  4. Hmmm. I'll take your word for it... I have a lot of HP-38 and Power Pistol - do any of you like either for .357 with 158 gr XTP's? I figured I'd start with FMJ bullets, standardize a load, and then start mixing in variables like FMJ vs plated vs coated vs lead, etc...
  5. THAT is a really good point... Truth to tell, once I've bruised my hand, and ego, with full-house loads I'll most likely back down to something more nearly sane. So - I think I'm going to start with 158 Zero's and some HS-6. Thanks to everyone!
  6. Good point! I read (somewhere) that the 627 has a cylinder that is 1.575, while the 686 has a slightly longer 1.625. With that in mind, I've been looking at bullets either lighter than 158 grains, OR flat-point/swc's for 158.. Is there something special or magic about the 158gr bullets? It seems to be the go-to weight for .357's....
  7. I've got a SW 627 4" (not Performance Center, but I don't get to have nice things) on layaway. Next month it'll be in my hot little hands and I like to have a batch of ammo for testing. I used to load 158 gr LSWC's in a 686 with 2400. But I no longer own that gun, and want to start fresh. I'd like to avoid leading, but save money vs FMJ's. The internet tells me that Hi-Tek coated bullets (ie. Bayou or Missouri) can be pushed up to 1500 fps. And that they can't. I'm looking for a stout load. Doesn't have to be Old Testament, but I'd like some oomph. Only use this on paper. I know SWC's at powder-puff loads are what people typically use for paper punching, and I've done that in the past, but this time I'm looking for accuracy in something a little more... heavy metal... Can any of you recommend a coated bullet that can handle, say, 1300ish fps? A favorite powder and load? Thanks for any and all advice~!
  8. Thanks to everyone for your help with this! This is all very helpful - and puts things into perspective. f
  9. Thanks! And I should clarify - I have 8 guns NOW.... I've HAD... well... lots... f
  10. This may be more of a philosophical question, and I hope my asking th same question in the CZ forum isn't a no-no. I have a bunch of guns, mostly cz75 variant. What's bugging me is that this means that I have a lot of different magazines. And I have to make choices about which platforms I modify, accessorize, etc. And I'm hitting the 'too many options is as bad as too few' stage; I want to simplify my shooting so I can improve it. So, sorry for the long intro, I'm thinking about selling everything and consolidating and I wanted to get y'all's take or advice on this. WHAT I WANT: a carry gun a home/sd gun a target/ipsc gun WHAT I HAVE: 9mm CZ75 S/A CZ PO1 CZ P09 CZ P10c Tanfoglio Witness match SW Shield 45 Tanfoglio Witness match PPQ-45 Honestly I'm thinking of going the Glock 19/34/43 route, and perhaps ditching .45 altogether. Can I get your thoughts? I'm thinking that I could probably get 3K in trades or sales, buy the new stuff, and spend the 'profit' on trigger mods, etc... OR is there a better way to do this? Keep in mind, the big appeal of going Glock is that (with a chopped G34) I could have one big box of G19 mags, instead of having to juggle 8 different kinds... Thoughts? Have any of you done this? f

  12. That about says it. Just got my sweaty little hands on a PPQ in .45 and am wondering what to feed it. Or what NOT to. Thanks!
  13. Or I guess I should ask HOW MUCH does it matter which profile (Glock or M&P) you use? i ask because I just swapped my M&P for a CGW CZ P-09 and there's no laser trainer in that shape. I'd guess the Glock is the closer match to the CZ... is is it worth worrying about?
  14. Thanks for all of the advice. I got - for a whopping 14.99 - a generic airsoft holster. My concern right now is that it's too big and the gun will slide around. A well situated bolt/nut thing should fix that though.
  15. Hi I'm in a weird situation. I just traded my IPSC gun for a new one, but only have two magazines for it. I have a P226 with a holster. But only three magazines. I also have CZ P01 with five magazines. But no holster. New magazines and a holster are on their way, but won't arrive until Monday. I have a match on Saturday. SO The cheapest way out, it seems, is to get a cheap holster for the CZ, use it on Saturday, and then bury it in the back yard. The local airsoft place has these generic, adjustable(?), NC Star holsters. i'm assuming they are total crap. But also that they can make it through a match. Can any of you see a reason why i can NOT use this in a match? Thanks! f
  16. This is all wonderful feedback. Thanks! I really appreciate it! f

    holster for P01?

That's basically it. I'm thinking of using my P-01 in Production, but don't have a holster for it. Any recommendations? Anything I should steer clear of? Thanks!
  18. Thanks for all of the feedback! One thing I feel I should make clear is that I don't resent the DQs at all; these were all totally my fault. And, since we ARE playing with live ammunition, I figure the RO is doing me a favor by preventing me from having to live with hurting someone. The DQs themselves don't really have much to do with the brain dump thing. The first was a 180 violation on a stage that began facing uprange. Literally the first time I'd ever tried that, and I drew too early. The second was even dumber. I entered the box with a magazine in the pistol. Just plain dumb. Another mag holder on my belt would have prevented it, I just went into autopilot while loading and put the magazine... well.... where magazines go... Anyway, it looks like the gist of what I'm hearing is that I need to slow down and stop trying to be John Wick.... Thanks!
  19. So... for the second time in a row I was DQ'd at my 'first' match. Which is fine... When I decided to take this up (50th birthday midlife crisis kind of thing) I resolved to treat it as a Zen 'the-journey-is-the-destination' thing. There's a lot to learn and these things take time. And the DQs were "just" forgetting rules (I mentioned "idiot" right?). It's not like I had a tantrum or hurt someone. BUT What I've found, both times out, is that when the first stage buzzer sounds my mind goes completely blank and I end up simply forgetting to engage all targets. I do the walkthrough, make a plan, watch what others are doing and evaluate their strategies against my own... I think I'm doing all the things. But then I'm DOING it and can't remember my last name... let alone my fantastic plan. Can any of you give me some tips?
  20. I've been struggling with whether or not to get a SIRT training pistol. Or, rather, whether to spend the extra money on going infrared. Oh, and trying to decide which kidney to sell so I can buy it all. Just to make things more complicated, I came across the Coolfire system (http://coolfiretrainer.com/), which uses C02 to simulate recoil. Can anyone offer their thoughts on which is the better route to go for dryfire training?
  21. Turns out that the CORE model takes a different rear sight than the regular M&P...
