  1. Trigger is not resetting on one of my wife's 10/22s. Rifle is clean, bolt return spring quite new. First thing I did was drop in a spare trigger group; problem remained at about 1 of every 5 rounds. When this happens the trigger is pinned back. I've even had it happen when I manually chambered a round. When I pulled the extractor and spring things were really bummed up, but not so much so as to hamper ejection. We'll be at the range this Monday and while I'll clean things up I'll also drop in a new spring and extractor, but how can this cause the trigger not to reset? Right now I have my fingers crossed but just in case I'll bring the bolt from her other gun.

    2011 for CCP

I'm going to try my Staccato C in CCP with the 9 round Tripp officer mags. Should fit in the box although I've not seen a box at the local match that I would shoot 5 or 6 times/year.
  3. Why don't we just return to the 3 second penalty to give those who must take a penalty a bit of a break. I tried to get of copy of whatever material was presented to the BoD on this matter and/or a copy of the analysis that claimed "that 80% of shooters could cheat with a 3 seconds penalty" and/or the raw data that was used for the analysis. Had no success going through the Area 1 director. The increase appears to be completely arbitrary and unfair.
  4. Mark, thanks for the post r.e. OL penalty.  Rick

  5. From a purely selfish perspective the capricious penalty change from 3 t o4 seconds really crushed my wife. Sure, it's only 3 seconds overall, but the claim during the board meeting as passed down my the Area 1 director that "80% of competitors could cheat with a 3 second penalty" was totally absent any sort of analysis. I asked for same and none was forthcoming.
  6. 1. Why would the current rules specify that mags must be loaded to a maximum 10 rounds. Who cares? Do the ROs check at Tier 2 and above matches? 2. SS rules state that frames must be metal but can be "modular". It appears that my Staccato C (my EDC) is not legal for SCSA single stack. As an aside why not allow 2011s in "SS" if they otherwise meet the SS requirements. SS is already small enough a division.
  7. If it was dangerous I've have my 9mm SBr propped up next to my chair. If it was really dangerous I'd have an AR in a rifle caliber, but I live in Idaho. Break-ins are discourage by the large percentage of gun ownership in large calibers.
  8. I'm sitting watching TV with my Staccato C on my hip and a spare 19 round mag at 3 o'clock. Don't even know the gun is there. Use an EMP in a fanny pack and have a Kimber Pro Carry backup to the "C".
  9. I'm considering a MantisX for my 1911. I'll use a rail adapter and need to find a kydex holster that is either TekLok compatible or can otherwise mount on my outer belt of a very stiff Kore Essentials belt. I would also be able to use this same holster for my Staccato C which will be a real plus.
  10. Maybe it's just my hearing but I don't hear a "click" when the trigger resets. Disclaimer: I do wear hearing aids.
  11. My 9mm is hard on ejector springs (CMMG says to expect 1000 rounds), but I get a bit of advanced notice as the ejection pattern starts to change. If I press my luck I'll get FTE. Running a hydraulic buffer in an A5 tube FWIW - great setup.
  12. I did speak with a friend today who ran a Volquartsen for 250K rounds before he sold the gun; the new owner put another 100K rounds through the gun. I've found after 300 rounds on one of my wife's guns I only need to run 1 wet patch through the barrel followed by a dry patch. The process "recommended" by Volquartsen would have one scrub the barrel with a bronze brush several times; I can't imagine why they would recommend this.
  13. My wife has a Mamba-X as a replacement for her Ruger 22/45 Lite(s). Her pistols see relatively high mileage, let's say 30K rounds/year and I'm looking for others' experience with Volquartsen barrels in terms of wearout. Her current practice ammo is lead RN with CCI mini-mags for weekly matches. The handguns get cleaned after every practice session. FWIW the Mamba has improved her shooting with the built-in compensator doing a very good of minimizing dot excursion.
  14. My wife and I both shoot steel challenge, our retirement hobby as it were, and although we're otherwise happy in Idaho steel challenge matches are sparse consisting of primarily twice/week 4 stage ad hoc squadding matches on weekday afternoons. We moved from California where with travel we could shoot 3-4 monthly 8-stage matches. Looking for recommendations of a metro area where we might be able to shoot 3 real matches/month within 3-4 hours travel for the better part of a year. We're not fair weather shooters since we practice year round in Idaho. State needs to be gun friendly (CC, SBR, suppressor, etc.). Most any area we could find a place for ourselves and our 3 retired horses. I realize a similar request for USPSA matches would be an easier ask, but I thought it worth a shot to see what folks might come up with.
  15. Must have picked up a bunch of these at the range. Running my 1050/Mark VII the case a)don't consistently feed into the shell plate and b)don't give up the spent primers easily. I've loaded 200K rounds or so and the only case brand-dependent issues I've ever seen is some case spring-back loading 147gr bullets deep. Anyone else experienced this?
  16. I'm glad I bumped into this thread. I have the original Mr. BF (1050/Mark VII) and it's dropped in excess of 150K rounds. I've seen the same thing with 115gr bullets to this extent: even though I seldom get a complete hang-up I believe the stack gets held up at the funnel and decreases the force of engagement between case and fed bullet. These little round nose guys are the only configuration that occasionally tips over; I've adjusted the powder funnel (a worn-slick Mr. BF) through a big range but nothing improves the situation. I'm transitioning to 127gr Brass Monkey for my Steel Challenge load, but I have thousands of those little buggers that I'd like to use up. Too bad they don't have a slight chamfer on the base. Any and all suggestions welcome.
  17. My wife has been shooting Mark IV 22/45 Lite(s) in steel challenge for a few years. The guns have the Volquartsen ignition parts and triggers at about 2-1/2 lbs. We recently purchased a Mamba-X (4.5" barrel) and the gun has performed extremely well. 1. While the trigger is no lighter than the Mark IVs the break is very 1911-like. No creep whatsoever so a big improvement in that regard. 2. We are using mutt and jeff ammo and have had some ignition failures (Federal 800 round blue box), but these are not on the gun. In fact the firing pin strikes are more pronounced than with her other two Rugers. 3. I'd say the comp does provide some benefit. I had to use blue loctite on the threads. Otherwise the comp loosens very quickly. I'm not enamored with having to use the included tool to R&R same, but the loctite has done the trick. 4. IMO if you're used to a 1911 safety the Ruger/Volquartsen safeties just don't cut it so I transferred a modified Tandemcross safety from one of her other guns: problem solved.
  18. I've found that M-Pro 7 works reasonably well if I give it a few minutes after application. Guess I'm not patient enough. Of course our practice round counts are down thanks to the cursed primer shortage. I have also concluded that the Lucas spray cleaner is best reserved for blowing out lowers that can't be detailed strip, at least by me. (e.g., Ruger Mark IV).
  19. It's interesting that the only Federal 22lr ammo Advantage Arms recommends is Auto Match (which doesn't run well in my wife's Rugers. I've brought my conversion out of storage to lower the cost of one of our two weekly practices. Reloading 9mm is $$$.
  20. I've used a lot of this in the past for soft 9mm steel challenge loads in my 1911, but I had forgotten how tough it is to clean up. The last several months I've been using WSF and although sooty most anything works to get the soot off. My soft 115gr SP load leaves a hard residue. MPro7 won't tough it. The Lucas spray cleaner works with some serious brushing. No joy with Hornady combo cleaner/lube. I have some Hoppes spray cleaner but the stuff is so vile that I don't even want to use it. My US cleaner would probably work but I'm cleaning this gun twice a week. Any suggestions?
  21. I finally got around to getting serious about using my AMG timer and tablet for practice. I've written a program (in Matlab) to take the tablet data and plot every string time for each practice session. After each stage I use tags to record shooter/division/stage which appear in the tablet data file. The green zone represents the shooter's current classification. I've attached my wife's output since I've sucked so badly over these last 2-3 years. I'll be changing the vertical scale limits to something more relevant to rimfire of course. Could be used for any drill or a succession of repetitive drills in a given practice. If I don't have any consulting to do over the winter I might look at converting to a language that will produce and executable. Or if there is someone on this forum who wants to create and executable version I'd be happy to assist. Sample Output.pdf
  22. Just received shipment notice on an order for 4000 115gr I order in April. Since then i've been buying Brass Monkey, Black Bullets and Missouri Bullets without an issue. Bullets are a non-issue; not so for primers.
  23. Saw this at a recent steel challenge match, a competitor running an open gun in a race holster where the barrel prior to the draw was definitely canted inward toward the competitor's thigh. I wouldn't personally run a gun OWB in that condition, but I suppose since some forms of carry holsters are legal in USPSA (?), where these often have barrel axes that at least intersect the shooter's butt, then the aforementioned configuration is legal. What do the rules say?
  24. I'm hanging in there with SPP, but it's hand-to-mouth. Has any tried the subject primers from Zinc Point?
