  1. I've had good luck using an automatic counterpunch, pop a "divot" on both the right and the left on the center of the dovetail extension (the part that's held in place by the slides cut), front and rear. This pushes up enough metal to make an interference fit. You can also tap the top of the slide over the dovetail w a heavy non marring hammer to "close" the gap a bit. Shims and loctite always seem to work loose, especially softer materials.
  2. Yes, major would be good, and there are lots of loads in the reloading section, I was hoping that someone had a pet load for my gun. Thanks!
  3. Hi, I picked up a like new witness Elite match in .40, I'd like to load for it, USPSA and PPC will be my goals to shoot. Anyone have a load they know works well in this platform? I dont wanna reinvent the wheel if I dont have to! Thanks!
  4. Hi, I just picked up a witness elite match in .40 and I'd really like some bigger grips for it (I have bug hands!). Apparently the square trigger grips dont fit? Any other models that will? I had a pic of one wearing nill target grips, but I cant find them on their site. I appreciate any help!
  5. Im finishing my top end, but without a good source of mags it kinda a moot point! Anyone hear from para-remington?
  6. Guess i confused pro comp w pro custom! I did a search, this thread came up! Nevermind!!
  7. actually looking for the double stacks, thx tho!
  8. Anyone know where to get good mags for the .40 now?

  10. I replace mine in my annual complete tear down and lube. I dry fire the heck out of my gun without caps. Ive never had one broken, but ive had one chewed up that was on its way. I got a 5 pack from rich at canyon creek- cheap insurance!!!
  11. OK, So a buddy bought a couple mag extensions for his XD .45 and they seemed to be pretty decent so i ordered 6 of them for my xd45 tac that shoot in limited division so i could get a couple more rounds in the gun at a time. They came with heavy springs, so I installed them. I noticed at the first match that they were a BEAR to load with the new springs and had to be downloaded one so i could seat them without having to crush them in place. no biggie, i figured the heavy springs would break in. After the first match I found one was cracked where the magazine slides into the mortise in the extension. I chalked it up to a bad one and went on my way. Last match i drop a partially loaded mag onto the ground during a reload and POP- YARD SALE! The mag body, spring, follower and broken baseplate along with the remaining rounds all decided to spread themselves as far as possible on the range floor. At the end of the course I found a third cracked- all along the same line where its holding onto the magazine. I can only assume that they are NOT strong enough to hold up under regular use with the supplied heavy springs. So I emailed AGP with my issue and my order number. Over 10 days ago, no reply. Even if they have a bad batch or something Id completely understand- stuff happens, but MAKE IT RIGHT. NO RESPONSE is not cool! I hate to say it, but at this time I have to recommend that you avoid using AGP, especially when theres so many other companys out there that will service their product. PS- had my buddy check his extensions- that he carries on duty- one was cracked. They have all been pulled off and is now sitting in the junk box with mine.
  12. As we used to say at work..."if engineering were hard, engineers couldn't do it"!
  13. I wish I did have access to the original print dimensions, but I dont, so this is the next best thing I guess. Hopefully having a few grips to scan will help at least give us an average nominal dimension....
  14. Apparently my first posting crossed the line into "vendor" territory when I posted the prices that I thought Id be able to get frames made for. It wasnt my intention to solicit business- I DO NOT have a product to sell. If I did Id be thrilled to pay for the chance to sell it on this forum because Ive learned a ton here- So, my apologies to the mods, it wasnt intentional! Anyway, heres the project in a nutshell: 1. get a 3d scan made of a stock sti grip frame. Done! Thanks to a few very generous forum members loaning me frames as well as an STI rep sending me one to play with Ill be working on solid works models and scans next week. 2. Modify the plans for the stock grip by extending it out 14mm longer. This will allow more room on the grip for my huge mitts and should allow me to use 140mm magazines and have them fit as the 126mm ones do in a regular frame. As was pointed out to me (and the reason for this post) I will have to make a longer extension on the mainspring housing as well. 3. make a model on a 3d printer of the longer grip as a test mule. Im pretty sure the abs material that the printer uses wont be strong enough to make a good frame from, but itll at least make it possible to cheaply test a proof of concept. If anyone is better versed in 3d printing materials please advise- I know next to nothing about them. 4. make a second frame and putty it up to fit my hands. Theres several postings and vids about guys doing this especially in Europe w the cz/eaa guns. This will allow me to make a wider and deeper grip as well. Im anticipating two issues- one with the grip safety as id like to make the grip "deeper" so my reach to the trigger is better and the second for possibly making the mainspring hole a part of the grip frame itself rather than having a separate removable piece since the grip itself is removable. Thoughts? 5. Scan the putty'd up "custom" frame and make a solidworks/cad model to go with the first one. 6. Since I live in Peoria, the home of Caterpillar, there are LOTS of machine shops and excellent cnc operators around. Ill take my cnc models to them and see if i can have ones made in metal. In my last post I estimated what I thought it would cost to have one produced and asked if anyone other than me would possibly be interested in having one made for them (so I could possibly entice the shop w the possibility of making a few of them). Once I get to that point and have hard figures Ill make the info available to the forum members (assuming it works) and will certainly be glad to pass on the info of the shop that made them for me, making sure they pay the proper vendor fees to the forum! Huge thanks to Titandriver, Aircooled6racer, AWLAZS, Bmiller and Dustin21 for the use of their parts and knowledge. Special thanks to STI for their support as well! Ill keep updates rolling as I can, hope to have a new toy to play with this spring! If you have ANY feedback or information to add, PLEASE feel free to do so- The depth of talent that exists on this forum is incredible! Anyone have a .40 top end they'd like to donate to the project?!?! GRIN!
  15. Lol, I know kevin, I'd never admit it to his face, but I like the guy! Thx AWLAZS!
  16. There's actually a qualifier tmro night (2-10) as the one last week got screwed up on the height of a target. Cmon over! Now, back to the post- anyone have an sti grip they'd loan or part with? I just need it for a 3d scan...
  17. CISS in Bloomington. Great guys, excellent shop, beautiful indoor range. Uspsa shoots every Tuesday night....
  18. I'm looking for the plastic grip, not the metal frame. My bad...
  19. Ok, I want to build a 2011 limited gun, but I have huge hands. So, having access to a 3d scanner and printer, I'd like to take a 2011 frame and putty it up into what I want, then I can scan it, prototype it and have my CNC guy build me one!! Anyone have one they screwed up stipleing or something similar? I dont care about color or finish...I just need a starting point and I dont wanna ruin a new one!!! Ps- if this works we can make aluminum frames available to the forum for purchase....!
