Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Assuming that PRS stands for Precision Rifle "Shooting"? I really don't know. From my experience, it all depends on what you're trying to get out of your rifle. I have made 1,000+ yard shots with a fixed 10x Leupold and (very recently) a 1,560 yard shot with a 6.5-20x50 Leupold. In both cases the target was steel, not paper, and no score was involved. If you're shooting for score, whether that is 600-1,200 yards, you'll likely want more magnification. Many of those shooting that sport are shooting Nightforce in higher magnification ranges.
  2. First - plan. Then - relax. Its not like we're playing for a Buick. I know I still get caught up in the relax part. But when I can totally let go and have fun with it (like the reason why I got into the sport in the first place) I usually do better.
  3. I like this idea. Not sure why we haven't tried it locally at a club match... maybe this month.
  4. Ok, that makes sense. So what are most people using these days...? A 5" rod, long plug (that shortens the spring for a 6" gun) and what weight recoil spring? OR, if using a 6" rod and normal plug, what weight recoil spring? I'm using 180gr Zeros @ 175 power factor.
  5. I'm just getting into shooting Limited and have a 6" 2011 with lightened slide. This gun came with a 5" guide rod and this ridculously long looking recoil spring plug. It seems to cycle much smoother with a 6" guide rod and normal spring plug. This has my wondering now... What is the preferred recoil system for these guns?
  6. I've had great luck with IMR4895, yeah it's an older powder, but it shoots great out I my Rem 700. A buddy uses H4895 and works well too. Another friend uses N150 for their Palma loads. Also, I had a machinist clean up and polish the Dillon powder drop for more reliable charges. Works great and very consistent. My .308 loads will shoot 1/2" or better and all are loaded on a 650.
  7. Is there a designated match hotel for registration? Or will that be done at PASA? I'm squadded for all day Friday.
  8. Welcome! If you're looking for matches in WI, check out http://www.wisconsinshooters.com.
  9. About 45 seconds for Stage 7 - Scott to begin playing. I'm at work with a very large pipe to the internet (we host our own sites out of this location). The quick playback on your machine could be due to caching since you already have the file. Anyway, I'm out of here for the day. Gotta go run my steel plate league tonight, then leave for Barry first thing in the morning. Hope to meet you there!
  10. Trying to watch some of the videos but they're VERY slow to load from your site. Thanks for posting them though! So - how was the weather there today? Forecast looks to be hot & humid.
  11. Holy crap!! I'm glad you're goIng to be alright. I talk about this kind of stuff in my classes, but I think most have that one-in-a-million attitude about it and pretty much brush it off. I may have to use your experience as an example. Get well soon!
  12. I'm up in WI, but am looking to take a trip to Nashville about that time, so you may have another SS shooter. I really hope the timing works out... just need to convince my wife that a vacation just isn't a vacation unless you can squeeze a match in.
  13. I've been trying to get to www.photomotionphotography.com for a few days with no success either. I just did a WHOIS look up and her domain expired on 6/12. Does anyone know her personally to see if she's aware that her domain has expired?
  14. Can someone post a link to the Michelle's (the photographer) website? I think she was on stage 7.
