  1. Sure it is a personal choice. Most light weight guns built for shooting steel will not hold up to major power factor though.
  2. They are brass. Some places will buy them and some will not.
  3. Too often you can see shooters running through a stage as though they were shooting it but they will just sweep across the targets instead of stopping on each one. It's kinda strange how that same thing happens when they shoot the stage. ?
  4. The 1-7. barrel is good for 77,75 and most likely 69 gr bullets. It might even shoot 55 ok. You'll just have to try them. Yes you you might find a good load with the Hornady bullets but I think I would try others since you did not have good results with factory loads.
  5. One thing you need to keep in mind is that a rifle very well may not shoot both 55 and 75 gr bullets accurately. Usually a faster twist is needed to stabilize heavier bullets.
  6. If there is no question on the 180 violation there should be no question on a DQ.
  7. And then you have to decide on which powder to use.
  8. Ok. The yellow residue from silhouette seems to be normal. I just wondered if the light loads with the slower powders was dirty.
  9. Hmmm. On all my pistols the middle finger pushes on the disconnect or and trigger. I think I would want to increase the spring tension on the sear first. If that is the problem.
  10. It is most likely mechanical and it sounds like you need to take it to someone that is experienced with this. Not intending to be rude but it sounds like you are not sure what to do and this situation can be dangerous. it could be the overtravel screw but have you checked to see if the overtravel needs adjusted?
  11. Just curious if you are getting unburned powder with those loads.
  12. Yes sir I do. They aren't always necessary but when you need one you really need one!
  13. So 8 years later and they still help. ?
  14. I use the same gun for major and minor. My minor loads are around 145 pf but I still need to change the recoil spring, 6-7 lb spring for minor. A light weight steel gun will be better if you are seriously competing in the steel matches but shooting the same gun for both has its advantages.
  15. Smoothing out the detent may help but I suspect the two parts are loose where they fit together and have too much play to make a positive movement to disengage from the weak side.
  16. Round nose bullets can be loaded longer than hollow point bullets because of the longer profile. But as was mentioned the crimp is not intended to hold the bullet.
  17. I started shooting 9 major shortly after uspsa allowed it, probably close to 10 years ago. There was no data for this so I stumbled through it on my own, finding out what works and more importantly what did not work. What i I came up with was a oal if 1.170 with a Montana Gold 124 and 121 bullet. I use HS6 or Silhouette powder. Yes other powder will work but I have found no need to try others. Yes you can load load longer to get closer to 38 super length but you are only kidding yourself if you think that will make the 9mm perform like a 38 super. It is still a 9mm with powder that will work in the shorter case. I actually have loaded out to 1.20 but I found no real reason to do so and yes you will have problems with loads that long. Maybe not often but usually at the worst time. I much prefer the reliability to any small advantage, real or perceived, gained by loading that long. So so yes you can try to reinvent the wheel or just ride on a round one like everyone else. ?
  18. The best way I found to bevel the pin is to put it in a drill press and use a file to bevel it then use some fine emery cloth or a stone to polish it smooth.
  19. Without an chrono everything is just a guess.
  20. That is the answer. But you have to be aware of the problem.
  21. That will work fine unless the ejector is loose in the holes then you may experience ejection problems.
  22. I put a good bevel on the decapping pin and that cured the primer pull back issue.
