  1. Ran this today, 10 runs, 6.17 with the c's. First shot was slow and was the majority of the c's, can't wait to see what part 2 is! Pm going outbound!
  2. Wow, can I ever relate to this post, I did my first IDPA in January. I shot the second this weekend, along with an introductory USPSA match. I shoot 3-4 times a week at my local club. I do pretty well with accurate hits out to 15yds or so, with a fair amount of speed on the shots. If I take my time for a good site picture I get the longer shots up to 25yds in the down zero. I fully understand the timer buzzer fog thing! I swear I blackout during the dam stage, don't know what happened to my front sight, and can't recall anything about grip, stance or the targets! I even practice with the timer to get used to it, but all that goes out the window during the competition! I finished 34th out of 55 in the first and I thought i was in last the way i was shooting. I finished 42nd out of 74 in the second, and still, like the first match, I thought i was dead last. So I am happy about my finishes, but not happy about how i shot. Everything was rushed, the dam buzzer..... It was interesting to read that your scores improved as you slowed down, I try to talk myself into going slow during my walkthru/prep, but just can't seem to execute it when the buzzer goes off! I'm hoping I will calm down with more matches under my belt. The USPSA match was really fun, less rules and it's up to the shooter to figure out how to shoot the stage. I ended up 4th out of 28 shooters, not great as there were many beginners. But there were a few really good accurate shooters there also. Fun stuff, haven't figured out which I like better yet, but i think i will continue with both for a while. Thanks for posting up your story, and congrats on climbing the ladder! Kevin
  3. This is what i did, my vac is about 15ft away in the next room, mounted on the wall. I hard piped it to the bench overhead and have it running down to the floor into a 5 gal bucket that i drilled holes in the top. One pvc pipe in, one flex hose out to the working end. Nothing makes it to the vac, i empty the bucket after every few vacs so nothing builds up in there. I did have a static problem when i first started using it, but learned to store the hose away from the press after i was done cleaning or trimming cases and that took care of it. Just realized this post is pretty old! haha, oh welll
  4. Had the same problem, watch the ram that sends the case into the shellplate, if it goes to hard against the case/shellplate there is a deflection that causes the case to bounce out of the shellplate. Adjust your case feeder bracket.
  5. I have the same setup, 550b with case feeder, i use a lee universal decapper in station 1 of the loading tool head. I decap, size and trim on the trimming toolhead. That way i am able to tumble off the lube and any burrs before the loading operation. All you need to do is get a universal decapper that is not going to size your cases, only make sure the flash hole is clear. Other that you got it right!
  6. I'm not sure but I don't think the 380 ramp is the correct one. Can you take it out and see if a 223 case slides easily but without too much play left to right? If I remember correctly I am using a 32 HR ramp, it is "D" ramp. Also the 32 ramp needs to be filled down a bit to make it work smoothly. I am using a white adapter for 223, the black one is for 30-06. There are several posts on this subject with all the info you need to run 223 on the 550 with a case feeder. I think if you search 550 casefeeder 223 you will see them.
  7. I saw a picture of someone's bench where they had the hose from the mini shop vac going into a plastic jar(maybe around 1 gallon size), with another hose coming out and going up to the bench with the crevice tool attached. I assume it was to collect the powder/primers before they got sucked into the actual vac. I could not see into the jar, but a small filter(maybe even a screen) would keep any particles from making it to the vac. It looked like a pretty good design.
  8. I have the 550, bought it from brian in december 14. I put a case feeder on in January, made a world of difference with pistol calibers. I am not a speed demon, i didn't like having to take my right hand off the handle to load the cases. I am very happy with the setup. I am now doing .223 and 30-06 (need to de cap on a single stage for 30-06) and it works great. Read around the forum for info on whats needed for rifle conversion, or you can PM me. Good luck, you will like it! Kevin
  9. I will check it out, thank you. I'm going to experiment with some cases over the weekend
  10. Hi Guys, i've been a member for a few months(as long as i've been reloading!) and have read until my eyes were crossed on this and some other forums. I also took a reloading class with a Massachusetts guy named Jim Finnerty. I have about 5000 pistol reloads through my 550 with no major issues, great learning machine and it is treating me well. I just started with 223 and worked up the first rounds. I sorted my brass and used the two toolhead method to prep and reload. I have limited brass at this point(maybe 500 cases) that is mixed head stamped. The PPU 71 cases are giving me problems with high primers and just a bit high on the case gauge. I swaged them with the super swage but they still seem to have a problem seating the cci small rifle primers (#400) all the way. They are very close to flush, but still visibly high and i can't lean on the machine any more, it just won't go any further. I have adjusted the primer cup plunger and it sets the primers just fine in the RP headstamp cases. Sorry for the long post but i wanted to give you guys some background info. Anyone else see this kind of problem with the PPu cases? Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Kevin
  11. I am new to reloading and this is my first post. I just bought a 550 last month and have reloaded about 1000 9mm so far. I took an NRA sponsored course to learn a few things before i set it up. I was super paranoid about double charges and kabooms before i took the class. Now i am a little more confident but i still make sure to look at EVERY charged case. It took me a bit to get used to all the steps, right hand pulls down, pushes up, load a new case, left hand put bullet in and advance. In the beginning if i stopped i would question where i was in the process. Now i seem to have a system that works for me as far as keeping safety in check. Tell me if you see any problem with this procedure. Put in the new case, de prime, install primer then advance, add powder (i have a light so i can see the case and powder), now BEFORE i advance, i put a bullet on the case in position #2. That way if i have to stop, i dont pull down and double charge(because there is a bullet on it in pos 2). So i put the bullet on, advance and seat, if i stop before i can see the bullet on the case in pos 3 and know i need to seat. It seems to keep me from forgetting where i am in the process. Any issues with this process?
  12. I just did this! I decided to commit to reloading and made one big order from Brian two weeks ago. It was delivered last Tuesday, i set it up over the weekend, tumbled some once shot brass, worked up my first loads on Sunday nite and shot them today! Very happy with my 550 and the ordering process was a breeze with the EZ program. Best luck
  13. Hey, thanks guys! I am reading and reading and reading! Also taking an NRA Reloading class tomorrow. I shoot 9, 40 and 45 for pistols. I will eventually get a chrono, but still trying to swallow the reloading equip and the consumable up front money!
  14. Just wanted to introduce myself, I just bought a 550 form Brian! I am completely new to reloading, but have been shooting for 25yrs. I have just started reading the Lyman Reloading Handbook and am eager to get started. I will be setting up my 550 in the next week or so on the bench i just completed. I'm sure to have lots of questions and after reading this forum, i know where to ask them! Kevin
