  1. When will we have the number of stages and round counts for the match? And exact squad schedule information?
  2. Just between Wilson vs Ed brown, I would go wilson. The hardcover front to back is very slightly shorter than wilson, that might give Wilson a little edge. Techwell grips and magwell are another good option.
  3. I do not see 1911 dominating if combined with production. It's a less(relatively) reliable platform and a deep water to get into. Now with Walther's Q5 match steel frame introduced, this is going to be interesting. Had I not started and stuck with 1911, I would probably start with this Walther, and stop worrying all the debates among different brands of 1911. My opinion is same as before, a division L10minor/L8major, any gun.
  4. It doesn't matter what kind of grips you use, if you get sweaty enough, all slip. Use liquid grip. For less sweaty hands, try grip tape grips or silicon carbide.
  5. Agree with the post. 10 to 20 min dry fire before the match is great. As it's been already said, it gets your blood running and joint loosen up. We tend to feel this on our hands and arms not as much as we do on our feet or legs. I have noticed that my trigger control and grip pressure get better after some warm up. Next time get to a range, do a bill drill cold run at 10 yards, dry fire another 15 min and do another and you will see the difference. Reality is always different. When the match starts at 7:30AM and you have to get up at 6 and dry fire, that's tough for me.
  6. Thank you guys for the help. SV confirmed this is their old style mag. I also contacted Grams and Beven said his 11mm basepad will work. If I decide to sell these at some point, how much is this worth?
  7. Hmmm, I think we are getting close. I measured my new SV mags tube only, and it's 145mm. This tube measures 135mm. Now I am not sure if those base pads are dawson.
  8. All three mags can hold 20 rounds, and it's reloadable. The spring has 11 coils, not sure what spring it is.
  9. The basepad does not have any inscription like "SNL" on it. Called dawson, measure the basepad height, comes to 0.825, according to dawson, that's +1, SNL will measure about 0.885. Measured the tube alone, overall back length is 128.5mm. I am not confident to file the tube by myself. Anyone has any idea which basepad will make this legal. Anyone can identify these tubes?
  10. Bought this used, it's probably over 10 years old. It's set up for limited, but upon gauging, it doesn't fit, by just a little. Seems the basepad is dawson. Took it apart, it has the grams follower. Does anybody know who made the tube? It has no inscription on it. How would I be able to fix this to make it fit?
  11. No, what I was trying to say is just simply merge SS and prod. In other words, no 2011 is allowed, either single action single stack guns or striker/DASA guns. But anyway, I am not opposed to the idea of L10 minor. I don't see much advantage of one over the other between 2011 and other guns. I think for limited major there is due to the weight, for minor, they are both quite controllable.
  12. Buy Ben's books? At the end of the book, there is a dry fire and even live fire routine you can follow, and it's broken to fit for different levels of shooters.
  13. I do not think higher round count will make a difference if you train with a goal. At the end of some of my training sessions, if I have too many rounds left, it seems that I simply want to get rid of them rather than using them. I typically shoot around 300 rounds per session. Sometimes if I discover things that are helpful, I might shoot more. Few occasions I only shot 100 rounds or so and felt that I have had enough practice.
  14. I like this post. I have been shooting single stack minor, and mostly comparing myself with production guys. I don't see much difference if we merge SS into production, and it will be fun to have production major and minor too. Major 8 vs minor 10, it's always been a debate.
  15. I recently shot a major match and am not very happy about my alpha hits percent. 255 A, over 90 C and 9 D. That's a lot of C and Ds there. I don't think it's the problem to slow down to get my hits, rather than paying attention of where A zone is actually.
  16. I would think Brian's transition drill is going to help you. It comes in two parts. Clearly you would have to move your eyes first to next targets so that you can transition faster.
  17. Thought about this a while ago playing music and shooting. It seems cool, very cool wearing music ear muffs on the range. But then all other dudes seem so serious.
  18. Fastest I have seen from USPSA shooter is 1.4 sec. That's making all alpha shots, realistically. There are guys that can shoot cowboy styles in under 1 sec I think.
  19. Is this at 50 yards? lol.....that's pretty good. So it seems you are doing two shots including draw or reload in two seconds. For medium range targets, I think there are plenty of rooms to improve.
  20. I am not expert on this, but 1.3 to 1.5 seems pretty good for field course reload times. Even for a classifier stage, consistenly doing 1.3 is pretty damn good.
  21. Get some miniature targets from Ben Stoeger pro shop. It's thick cardboard and feels like real targets. And when you are done with it, you can shoot it in live fire too. lol
  22. This is great stuff. No bulls#!t, just straight up skills talking. Very informative. I think it's due time for 2018 again.
  23. This is good tip. I normally just twist the screws on the mag pouch a little looser, and it will draw smooth. lol, but sometimes they do fall out during a stage.
  24. Trigger control is the thing that 's most perishable. Best is to frequently manipulate it, even if you can't find enough time to dry fire, just pick up and pull a few times.
