  1. Sometimes for a large major match some of the staff has to be brought in. A RM for an Area match is generally of a higher level of expertise than one capable of handling a state match. Levels 2, 3 and 4 have different requirements for expertise. At Nationals they have Range Masters as well as Range Master Instructors working as stage CRO's on some of the stages.
  2. Correct me if I am wrong but most of your cuts were for the purpose of bring the total gun weight down to a legal weight correct?
  3. 2.1.4 Target Locations – When a course is constructed to include target locations other than immediately downrange, organizers and officials must protect or restrict surrounding areas to which competitors, officials or spectators have access. Each competitor must be allowed to solve the competitive problem in his own way and must not be hindered by being forced to act in any manner which might cause unsafe action. Targets must be arranged so that shooting at them on an “as and when visible” basis will not cause competitors to breach safe angles of fire. My take is targets can be available past the 180 as long as they are available well before the 180. You are not forcing the shooter to engage them past the 180 because of their availability well before the 180. If you make a target available starting at say 170 degrees then I would want some form of a barrier involved so that access to the target starts to disappear as they aproach the 180. In the latter case you are flirting with violating 2.1.4 without the barriers because you are getting into a range where you are starting to force the shooter to breach safe angles of fire.
  4. Do you want it balanced at rest, or nose heavy to help control recoil? To many personal preference decisions to get the answer off Enos.
  5. We took several SUV tires and cut them into quarters. Bolted the ends together to form wedges.
  6. We build them ourselves and we put pieces of tire behind them to make them easier to pick up.
  7. I agree, you shoot as fast as you can control your sight alignment. I would never try to shoot my EDC guns as fast as my 2011. The only factor I would base my confidence on is the guns stopping ability and any gun is better than no gun.
  8. How much of a difference are we talking? My fastest splits are with my 2011. My slowest would be my P32. Between that we have a variety of Glock's, 1911's and revolvers. The P32 might be a shot every .50 seconds due to the short sights and long trigger pull. Everything else would be .15 to .20 seconds except for a 2 3/4" .357 Mag with full power loads. That is probably in the .3 to .4 second range.
  9. My EDC holsters are all 20+ years old. The Concealable or the Sparks VM II are the only ones I use with my 1911 or G22.
  10. I have had one squib as I was shooting and several as an RO. I am glad the RO stopped me on mine because I did not hear or feel a difference. The bullet was lodged just close enough to the end of the chamber that it stopped the next round from seating. Took a hammer and a rod to pound it out. There was no way it could be cleared on the range during the COF. An 1/8" deeper and the next round would have fed and I do not know what kind of damage it would have done to either me or my 1911.
  11. I have always used the Galco concealable for my OWB holsters. I have never been a fan of Kydex for everyday concealment.
  12. What I see in the picture is a target that was knocked down but also rotated so that the the target appeared to not have been engaged. future engagement cannot not knock down a target that has already dropped. I would issue a reshoot in that case.
  13. Having shot as staff, my observation is they did some running around as we found problems but having a RM as well as several experienced CRO'S on other, squads helped. They were able to make adjustments to the stages that had not been shot yet and just needed to call the Match RM to let him know what changes were made in terms of target presentation, start position, or WSB wording. The biggest change for the MD was adjusting the starting squads/stages to allow better flow due to slow stages vs fast stages.
  14. I think the only stages that should have exact start position requirements are classifiers. All other stages should only have general requirements. You can specify the location of the feet, or the hands, or sitting, or holding an object. Have just the basic position listed and allow the shooter to freestyle their stance from there. If they want to touch the spots with their hands while having their feet off to one side in an attempt to get a quicker jump on the first target then more power to them. If they want to crouch a bit as they place their toes or heels on the X’s in an attempt to get a jump on the first target then more power to them. It is a game where we are encouraged to solve the problem the fastest way we can think of and how they plan their start should be part of it.
  15. Being as it is set to zero it should be picking up shots as soon as you hit start. Try turning down your sensitivity until you can tap the timer with a hard object and it records the tap. I play with mine because indoors it needs to be set higher to avoid echo's and lower when shooting outdoors.
  16. Delete the par time. It is not needed. A par time of zero means the timer shuts off as soon as you hit the start button.
  17. I think one of the reasons "breaking the perf" is thought of as the requirement is that so many more times it is what happens. The shooter follows the RO as the targets are scored and as they aproach the no shoot they notice a non disputable hole through the perf. "Dammit, I broke the perf" instead of "dammit I touched the perf" so people start to associate breaking as the requirement.
  18. You have not noticed it yet but you do have permanent damage. If you were tested prior to the match and then tested a couple of weeks after the match you would see a definite decrease in some of your frequencies. It may not be a lot but I would bet at least a 10 to 20% loss in some of the higher frequencies.
  19. The only part I have HAD to replace is an extractor. Had a case head separation that blew the magazine and the extractor out. Found all of the parts except the extractor. Otherwise I have common parts like extra trigger springs, recoil springs, connectors, triggers, as well as many other parts in my parts case. About the only things I do not have are barrels, frames, and locking blocks because all 4 Glocks are different models and calibers so those parts are not interchangeable.
  20. Really? I thought the DQ part was clear ~ 13 years ago when I took my first RO class...... But maybe that's a regional thing..... DQ Yes Proper divisional start condition of a select fire pistol that may or may not have a decocker? No Otherwise this thread would not have stretched into 7 pages.
  21. I need safely glasses for work so they paid for prescription lenses. I wear them when I shoot.
  22. No matter where you come down on the DQ / Bump to open debate, what is needed is some guidance from the match officials to the shooters at the shooters meeting to ensure that everyone understands that going to the half cock position on a production gun will at a minimum move you to open and at worst get you DQ’ed. The addition of select fire guns to the Production list has created some confusion. During our meeting I had a shooter this past weekend who asked if he could start at the cocked and locked position because his read of the rule book (8.1.2.3) did not address the issue. He then asked if he could start at the half cocked position. Once it was pointed out that the (see Divisions in Appendix D) at the end of the rule was also applicable and that D4 covers Production requirements that the hammer be fully down he understood why we said he had a choice of either shooting in Production or Lim Minor. It will take some time before this becomes common enough knowledge that it will no longer be an issue.
  23. Are you getting decent accuracy with any round in the shield? It could be the gun has very loose tolerances and it will never be accurate. When the gun is "locked up" can you move the barrel or slide ? I would experiment with bullets in the 115 to 124 area and a faster powder if the gun seems to have acceptable accuracy.
