  1. I have an STI hammer/sear/disconnector kit laying around and tried it in my Prodigy, and the sear was the same as Sarge's, too tight in the frame to pivot. Cerakote was too thick. I've used the EE trigger kits several times before, and like them. Dropped in. These guns are not hard to work on, but just need to know how to massage them.

The EE ignition kit is very highly rated by a bunch of folks.

That is a pricey kit though, you can get basically the same with this - EE2 LiteSpeed Trigger Group – 5 Piece – SA Prodigy – Thunder Mountain Custom (1911parts.com) And then pick out the trigger you like - an Atlas trigger adds $60 (Mike/Thunder Mountain has the other styles of EE hammers/kits as well to match your style/needs).

Although if it were me, I would buy the 3 piece kit, a C&S sear spring, and then pick the hammer spring that I need for the setup, but I have a box of parts here, so I don't always need all the extra stuff...lol  Throw the sear in a Harrison jig to give it a True Radius cut, polish up the disco, sides of the sear, and the 'in frame' parts of the hammer and live in the bliss of a trigger job that I barely notice while shooting fast.  ;)

This is what I did with mine, though I didn't get it from TM. Tweeked the center leaf a smidge, dropped in and got a 1# 4oz. trigger. I've used EE kits several times, and they do not disappoint. New safeties will have to be fit, naturally.

Again, the root of this post is simple: How are $$ being spent and where can $$ be saved.  Just a few thoughts from a businessman and shooter:

    1. Develop reasonable line-item budget for each national match…USPSA and SCSA.

Question:  For each major match, who owns and provides all the stands, walls, boundary sticks, steel, hangers..etc, etc?  Are there shipping costs?  Liability insurance?  Range owner fees?  All have to be considered and cost applied.

    2. Establish shooter match fees for each national match based on budget.

    3. P&L should be line item: Revenue/Expense.  Footnote's/explaination for all variances over 5%.

    4.  Publish Budgets and final P/L statement to membership.

Note:  This should also be for every Operating and Admin cost.

    5.  If this process causes match consolidations then that is what should be necessary.

I had a $75 million dollar per year company for 40 years.  Multiple plants; domestic and overseas.  I did this process every year, including a 5 year forward looking estimate every year.  The key is discipline within the organization and an unwavering commitment.

You already sound smarter than the BoD! I'd vote for you!

Ok, forgive my ignorance, but is IPSC as messed up as USPSA is right now?

Why not just forget about USPSA and start shooting IPSC matches?  Once USPSA dries up and dies, we can look to form another US affiliation branch of IPSC, but until then, can't we join IPSC and shoot under their rules???

Or, am I totally missing the boat on this?  It surely wouldn't be the first time, just ask my wife...

There is no individual membership in IPSC, regions are members. The US Region is known as USPSA. And, we are the only region that has it's own rulebook. The rest of the world shoots under the IPSC rulebook.

  5. I had a Dan Wesson PM9 that had the tightest chamber I'd ever seen. The only way to get all ammo to gauge was to run cases through the Lee 9mm Makarov sizing die, which would size the area just above the groove. If I'd kept the gun, I'd have the chamber opened up a bit. The cases were pushed all the way thru the die. Lee has a Bulge Buster kit.

Pics above, were those cases all the same headstamp? Some crappier brass would bulge on first firing, only suitable for the trash. Those are case ruptures waiting to happen.

    Hello,

I think I want to try a Lee carbide taper crimp die in 9mm.

It seems to be a popular die.

Right now I am running a Redding taper crimp die.

I am just wondering how long the Lee die can last.

Always had issues with their items.....

    Thanks

Are you talking about the Factory Crimp Die, that has the carbide sizing ring? I use it in all my pistol calibers. Some say it hides other issues that are preventing your ammo from gauging. All I know is when I use it, all my ammo gauges, and I don't have ammo issues. Carbide is harder than steel, so it should last longer than a non-carbide die. Plus, it's not doing a lot of resizing of the case as the regular resizing die is. As to quality, Lee dies are really well regarded. Their other stuff, not so much.

  7. Lot's of people want to give their opinions, and not answer the question. You'll have to figure how to filter them as you go here. The answer, as you figured out, is yes, in a COF that simply says "wrists below belt." Some course designers get lazy writing their starting positions, some are much more careful, some just don't care, like "anywhere in the shooting area, wrists below belt." I don't put a lot of credence in the "what are the GM's doing." If so, we'd all be shooting Caniks. Once upon a time, Robbie and Brian started doing some crazy stuff that we all take for granted now, such as stance and grip. You do you.

As a long time IDPA and USPSA competitor, range officer, I too have gotten close to burned out.  Discouraged that I've never made Master in anything, but was competitive 10 years ago.  Age has taken it's toll, not as fast and frequent brain farts, and watching all the young guns demolish you gets old.  I've sometimes shot something other than CO/LO or PCC just so I could say "I won my division in old man gun division (CDP/SS)", but even that is not satisfying since in local matches it's all "who's overall", ignoring divisions.

I've stopped working major matches but do try and shoot once a week with our club.  I will keep plugging away at it until I can't pull the trigger or see my sights anymore.

I started looking at it from "I'm 80% of the winner today, I'll take it". Kinda puts all the variables in perspective.

  9. Palmetto sells Dagger parts that are G19 as a base. They make 19L slides and barrels, and 19 frames that have 17 length grips. So, they end up having G45,47, and 49 guns that you can mix and match.

Checking out a CZSPo1 shadow for USPSA CO or LO. Anyone using one? I searched but couldn't find much on this specfic model.

I had an SP01 Shadow, and sold it to stay with Tanfos at the time. The Shadow grip felt cramped to me, I have L-XL hands. The Shadow 2 is perfect for me. Sold Tanfos, and have 2 S2 now for CO/LO.

  11. I have 2 guns set up for LO. One is STI Eagle-style gun, plastic grip, short dustcover, Government model slide. Transitions quickly, but not as flat as my other gun. The other is a Prodigy with a Cheely steel grip. Flat, but steers like a battleship. I had the grip left over, and decided to put it on to offset the nose-heavy feel it had with the plastic grip. Has anyone tried to lighten a steel grip, maybe some creative cuts in the side panels? Anyone have pics of what they've done?

I'm guessing you meant to say a frame mounted RED DOT?😆

Slide Ride is the model of C-More that has no mount with it. It's commonly attached to frame mounts on 2011's. I even started a thread here long ago as to why it's called a Slide Ride, when I've never actually seen one mounted on a slide. No one knew why.

You may be thinking of the now-common slide mounted dots like the RTS-2, SRO, etc.

Good thread.  When you’re not feeling it competitively, shoot something you like to shoot, or something easy like PCC.  I usually shoot PCC if I’m not feeling it; PCC might be nearly dead, but it’s fun AF.  I also really enjoy shooting single stack and never have a bad time shooting single stack.  Keep it fun.  Shoot other sports and other areas of interest.  One thing that works great locally is a group of us invariably goes to BWWs after the match for beer and chicken.  Sometimes it’s the main motivation for going to the match.

This^. Different divisions are like a completely different sport.

Hello Gentlemen!! I’m sorry I’m late to this topic had no clue about this forum until I was just shown this post by a customer.

I would like to introduce myself my name is Matthew Johnson I am the owner of MJD Solutions. I designed and developed this grip to be an upgrade to the polymer grips out there. The first problem was inventory. In a past life I machined parts and white labeled guns for customers. One of the problems I encountered was getting grips and there not being any options out there. Yes you could get an old gen1 STI …. Sometimes and good luck getting your hands on a gen2 grip. Then looking at the ones out there the nylon6/6 which is your glass filled nylon is a material and technology that is very old. The Gen1 STI grip in 1989 when patented was using the same material and has never been updated. I have come up with a proprietary material that is a composite of carbon fiber , Kevlar and nylon6/6 along with some other binders to make this grip a upgrade from any polymer out there and even to compete with the metal grips. I also designed and machined the mold these are made in as they are injected molded and not SLS 3d printed as suggested.

The goal was to provide the custom builder with and option that could be customized as they see fit. It has since turned into much much more. I am now providing grips to some of the top oems on the market and some of the top custom builders out there.

I stand behind my product 100% and if you don’t like it I will refund your money. But that hasn’t happened yet and out of a couple thousand grips out there in the market now that should tell you something.

The first comment I get when someone gets this in their hand is “holy sh!t this is a quality part” I have several customers that where weary but have since bought several more for all their 2011s.

please check out my website or instagram and I am here to answer any questions you might have. I know I cannot please everyone and will not force this either but I guarantee once you hold it you will see the difference.

    Thank you,

    Matt

Does it take standard mag wells that would work on the gen 1 STI grip? I think that is the major hinderance of the Prodigy grip.

  15. A little off topic, is everyone's 507Comp reticles have the piece of the circle missing at 6 o'clock? When I got my green, we were messing with it at the club, and that was noticed. I see in the pics above it's missing, but never heard mention of it. More of a "horseshoe-dot" than "circle dot".
