  1. THE Big Panda is coming to Dallas this weekend for his signature class.  I've got about 2 spots not spoken for before the wait list begins.   Shoot me an email (or message me here with your email) and I can get you with more specific data.  Charlie requires you read his book PRIOR to the class to save on lecturing us while on the range.   So maybe go ahead and order that if you're thinking about it.

Where: Mission 160 range (Whitewright, TX)

    When: March 5-6 8a-5p

Cost: $425 (includes targets, range fee)

    Flier attached.

  2. I see open surging in my area - Carry Optics is a gateway drug to Open.  I'm personally falling to it's siren song and if you asked me last year I would have told you I'm never shooting open.  Well.  here we are.

  3. I am shooting an IDPA sanctioned match here at the end of next month.  I have a few rigs I can run in CO after I get past my first major this year in USPSA (Open).

Which of the following would fit the box?

    - Beretta 92G ELite LTT RDO (SRO) - worried about BUIS fitting

    - Springfield Armory XDM Elite OSP 4.5" (Bushnell RXS 250) - worried about BUIS fitting

    - Glock 34 Gen 5 w/ DPP

I also have a couple compact style guns - a 19g5MOS and a Sig Carry model I could use.  I'd prefer to use my berettas.

  4. Are they more than 141.25 mm?  Are they legal for carry optics?  This is critical to my decision whether to buy one.  Thanks.

Yes - they are too long to fit the gauge . They do ship with the flat base plates to make them standard 19 rounders

  5. I got one on T&E.

Trigger is OK- I would still mess with it for competition.

Handles very well. Sights are perfect lower 1/3 on a 507C.

Magazines don’t gauge at 140. So that sucks. It is a great shooting / handling gun.

  6. In CO if you like a heavy guide rod the 34 extended guide rod from GlockStore adds like 3 oz of mass to the front of the gun.

Even without a heavy guide rod - I still prefer the 34 - it's just smoother shooting (slightly).  Plus the longer barrel gives you more real estate for manipulations if you go in front of the ejection port.

There isn't a huge difference but there's not a huge difference in cost either.

I will say my gen 5 barrels are significantly better than my gen 4.

  7. I'm presuming I won't have to send it back, I will wait awhile and see how reliable they are before I decide to bite.
I have a backup CO rig in case my main rig goes down for any reason. Apparently you like the DPP best , that's all fine, I like them as well, but I like the looks of the SRO better

I have an SRO on order - if the electronics hold up like the T2 RMR then I will have some DPPs for sale soon

Yeah, I’ve been checking hoping that it’ll dissipate and we’ll have a sunny day.

Anything you recommend bringing out of the norm.

A complete change of clothes to put on after the shooting is done - rain jacket, golf umbrella, shower cap to put over your gun, golf towels to wipe off mag bodies, mag brush to clean out mags - some extra mags in case your mag goes Sword in the Stone upon being dropped and you're not convinced it's going to run.  A trash bag to keep your bag in while you're shooting - though they have those covered shelters that should keep our gear pretty dry.  A trash bag to put all your wet clothes in for the ride home.

Gotcha,  I’ll see you this weekend,

we met at Collin county my son and I just moved from vegas

I remember you!   Very cool.  Double Tap looks like a fun match - lets hope the rain holds off because currently we'll be swimming the stages.

SRO looks killer but that price tag???? yikes

I have a Venom on my S2 and a JPOINT on my M&P

both good but neigher great, if I can find a good price on an SRO I may bite the bullet

as I was thinking C-more RTS-2 but this looks to probably be more reliable

****edit*** you can find these for a little more than the RMR *****

PResume for a moment that the SRO doesn't have to be sent back as often as the DPP - what's the hassle of being down an optic worth to you?  because it's about $100 more than a DPP presently.

To the OP's question - if you were to go for the DPP - I bit on the 2.5 MOA dot - if I did it all over again - I think I'd do the 7.5 MOA triangle - zero for the top of the triangle then when you're shooting fast just treat it like a dot.  You don't need the triangle to be as bright as the dot - so on full texas sun days the triangle is a lot easier to see.   I was at the range with a buddy with my 2.5 and his 7.5 - I had my 2.5 maxed out and we could turn down his 7.5 for a very sharp looking triangle.  I may transition my DPPs  to the 7.5.

    👍

it’ll be my first CO match.  Stages look pretty good been helping my son with the stage planning.

What  gun will you be running?

I compete with GLocks - so a 34g5.  I ended up dabbling into CO the cheap way with a 17g4MOS - when I realized I liked the division I just stuck with the platform.    I made this thread because a fellow CO guy postulated that the steel frames are harder on optics than plastic ones - so I asked the same question on this subforum and the glock one - so far the CZ has the highest round count optics going.   It seems so far if your DPP is going to fail - it will fail between about 3k and 8k rounds

Good to know I just picked up a back up.

ill be running your shadow 2 slide for double tap championship out in tx

Sounds LIke i"ll be competing with you in CO then!

  13. On glocks you have to press the front of the button to get it to work- the glockstore screws into the front of the button then cantilevers back. If you press the back of the glockstore button- it activates the front of the actual mag release as that’s where it’s anchored. A buddy after experiencing my GS button got one to replace his Ghost

  14. I don't understand your post. Did your DPP bite the dust after 15000 rounds? Did you talk with the manufacturer? Probably a good resource. What did they say?

    I have 3.

The button stopped working reliably - would have fits and I couldn’t adjust brightness.

  16. Anyone on here with a gen 5 running an extended mag release?

Ive been doing some digging and found that almost everyone hates the aluminium mag releases because they tear up mags.

That leaves pretty much just the Ghost release. Am I overlooking any other options or does anyone have recommendations?

I have the extended rectangular aluminum one from Glock store - the aluminum pad that screws down into an OEM mag release- works great. Tried the tear drop one - too big

  17. I am trying to get some data points on what likely lifespans are for a DPP prior to repair. So what kind of lifespan are you getting:

Still going / sent for repair?

Current round count or round count at repair?

    Dovetail mount or mill?

If Milled - who milled it?

    Thanks in advance!

  18. I wouldn’t start in Production. I would start in Limited with any gun you already have. If you don’t have a gun yet- get a cheap G17 police trade as inexpensively as you can and buy some Dawson sights for it. You can try Production, or Limited. With a dovetail mount you could try Carry Optics.

Carry Optics is stupid fun. Locap takes a special kind of masochist to enjoy.
