  1. I do not see anything in these rules specifically probiting a revolver, but Rule 4.2.7 is named Production Optical Pistol. In my world, pistol refers to a semi-auto and a revolver is a different type of handgun HOWEVER the entire 4.2.5 rule is titled Production Pistol and refers to revolvers in a few of the subsections, so I don't know. It does say in rule 4.2.5c that revolvers are exempt from having to fit in the 'box' and 4.2.5f states that a revolver can have a 6" barrel. I would make damn sure of this before showing up with it though. I am not anywhere close to being the authority on this. These are just my interpretations. In other words, don't expect "But Joey said" to have any standing with the CMP! As far as shooting the Plate match standing, it does state on Table 4 that the Position will be "Standing". In Table 2 (Practical) it states the position from 15, 25, and 50 yards to be "Standing or Prone", while in Table 5 (Moving Target) it shows the Position to be "Standing Only". These terms may need to be standardized and clarifications made. Having to shoot the plates standing the entire event would definately lower a lot of scores. Mine included!
  2. Registration is open here: https://ct.thecmp.org/app/v1/index.php?do=match&task=edit&match=23993 Rules are here: https://thecmp.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/2023-CMP-Action-Pistol-Rules.pdf Rule "book" is 61 pages long so I haven't had time to go over it completely. Kinda looks like they went word for word with the NRA rules. There is a way to obtain a CMP classification, but they will honor your NRA class. Not anything different than we have been doing that is can see.
  3. Attached is the link to the current rules. (January 2020) http://rulebooks.nra.org/documents/pdf/compete/RuleBooks/Action/act-book.pdf Check pages 15-16, Rules 5.12- Firing Position. It states "no rearrangment of the ground for support shall be allowed". That is the literal rule, but I don't know that I have ever seen it enforced. I've seen it done at both matches.
  4. Probably a little early for them to make the decision but with the number of international shooters, I won't be surprised if they call it also.
  5. The last targets I bought for our club came from Target Barn last July. It's just who we have always dealt with. https://www.targetbarn.com/ap-1-cb-100-target-barn-cardboard-targets.php The cost of the targets isn't bad but it's the shipping that gets you. As earlier stated, be careful which connection option you use for the bottom of the target.
  6. I thought it ran smoothly. There were a couple of issues with awards at the Banquet but they fixed them. I like that the Banquet is on Friday night now. Makes travel so much better. Dates for next year will most likely will be May 21-22 but I don't know for sure. It's always the week before Memorial Day.
  7. Yes, you have to sign up on the NRA site to register. Register to register.
  8. For those interested, registration is now open for Bianchi Cup. NRA 2019 Bianchi Registration
  9. Has anyone seen or heard when they will begin registration?
  10. I've shot hundreds of those bullets from Bayou. They can be very accurate at 50 yards with 231. To the best of my recollection, I loaded 4.8 grs. of 231, but like Warren said, you will need to work it up in your gun. I'd start at 4.4 and work up. You only need 870 fps to make PF but that may not be the most accurate load. I wouldn't go any higher than 5.0. That's a pretty hot with 231.
  11. This is absolutely true. A guy that shot on my relay told me he had volunteered to work but was told he could "either shoot or work, not both".
  12. My reloading bench isn't cluttered. I just have a lot of my reloading stuff on display.
  13. I use a Dillon Universal decapping die on toolhead by itself. I have found that a chisel point on the pin works best. As far as drying after wet tumbling, I use a food dehydrator and they are usually good to go in a couple of hours. Is decapping, wet tumbling and drying worth it? It is time consuming but just like women and beer, to each his own. I'm happy with my process and the end result. What else matters?
  14. For anyone considering wet tumbling, Midsouth Shooters Supply has a great deal on the FART right now. https://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item/00122909544/frankford-arsenal-platinum-series-rotary-tumbler-(stainless-steel-media-tumbler)
  15. Anyone heard an update on registration?
  16. This seems to be a good buy: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/814722/rcbs-rangemaster-750-electronic-powder-scale-750-grain-capacity-110-volt
  17. Out of stock at Midsouth. Found them here though: https://www.wholesalehunter.com/Product/Details/1015141?fs=1
  18. I used an Aimpoint for a long time, but last year switched to the Ultradot-6 with a single point mount Burris Xtreme Tactical Low mount. The mount fits the scope almost perfectly between the electronics and scope bell. As Jeremy said, the 2 patterned reticles are useless, but I like being able to change my dot size. The elevation turret is a handy option. Midway currently has the Ultradot-6 on clearance for $243 and the Burris mount can be found online for about $35. https://ads.midwayusa.com/product/316314/ultradot-ultradot-6-red-dot-sight-30mm-tube-1x-2-4-6-8-moa-dot-2-pattern-reticle-matte?cm_mmc=pf_ci_google-_-Optics+-+Red+Dot+%26+Holographic+Sights-_-Ultra+Dot-_-316314&gclid=COmaiLLF_9QCFdS3wAodx5AAwg Burris XTR Xtreme Tactical 30mm Low 1/4" Height Matte Black Single Ring 420161
  19. Congrats on your purchase! As far as a work bench goes, I purchased one from Harbor Freight (attached link) a couple of years ago and after securing it to the wall, it has been great! It has plenty of room for my 550B and the drawers and shelf are very handy. Don't pay $159 though. I got mine on sale for $129 and used a 20% off coupon. http://www.harborfreight.com/60-in-4-drawer-hardwood-workbench-69054.html?utm_source=publitas&utm_medium=monthly-ad&utm_campaign=042017 http://www.harborfreight.com/digitalsavings.html
  20. I shoot 115 HAPs in my Action Pistol (Bianchi) gun and they are very accurate out to 50 yards. I've got them pumped up pretty fast at 1250 fps. and they have no trouble at all knocking down plates. If you're interested in trying the HAPs, check the Midsouth Shooters Supply site. They have a 30 round sample pack for $5 all the way up to a 3k box for $279. Right now they have a special $9 flat rate shipping through the end of the month. (I think.)
  21. I want to give a shoutout to Warren and Tracy at Protocall for excellent products and customer service! This past Saturday, after shooting a TERRIBLE AP match, I decided that new parts would help with the problem. Early Monday morning I called Protocall and spoke to Tracy and told her what I wanted. She asked a couple of questions (because she is an AP shooter too and is very knowledgeable about their products) and I made an order. I asked if I could pay extra to have expedited delivery and she said there was no need, she would get it out that day and I should have it in 2 to 3 days. The package was waiting for me in the mailbox when I got home from work today! Warren had even made a handwritten note on the instructions so I would install the part correctly. Some might say I put this thread in the wrong place but I would argue that Warren and Tracy are friends of NRA Action Pistol and everyone here should know that! I've seen Warren help people at matches with their guns and you just can't find people like that anymore! Tracy is always a sweetheart on the phone and knows their products. We all know that AP isn't what it once was and I'm sorry for that. It's also good to know that there is still a company that designs, manufacturers and sells products to the AP shooter and does so in such a professional and friendly manner. Thanks Warren and Tracy! I'm sorry y'all won't make the Crawfish Cup this year but look forward to seeing you both at Bianchi. - Joey C.
  22. I agree with Greg. I use HP38 and it meters very well. I'm currently loading 4.8 grs. in my Dillon 550 and I check the powder after every 100 rounds and it is right on 4.8. I wouldn't blame the powder in this case.
  23. I've got a couple pounds of Titegroup but haven't tried it much due to it being such a fast burning powder. I've always heard you need something slower to make the comp work. The short (and lazy) answer as to why I use that load is because it's what the guy I bought the gun from used and he's a trusted shooter and friend and he had some success with it. The gun was built for him. He used the Zero bullets and they have been nonexistent for a while now. I tried the Precision Delta, which looks a lot like the Zero/HAPs, and then got a deal on some HAPs so I gave them a try and like them. To add another layer to this story, I shot an open revolver in AP for a long time. This will be the first year I've taken a semiauto to Bianchi. The speed may be a little high but I've found that I don't need to make any adjustment from 25 to 50 yards. Also, the PF floor for AP is 120 and I know I'm well above that. Thanks for the input on OAL. May have experiment with that after Bianchi. Right now I've got about 2500 of these loaded up and will roll with them.
  24. Pretty happy with this load. I shot the pictured group today at 25 yards from the prone position. Details below. The Load Hornady 115 HAP bullet (355) 4.8 gr HP-38 Winchester SPP Federal case OAL- 1.12 10 shot average over chrono - 1252 The Pistol Caspian 1911 Kart barrel with 4 port cone Compensator Ultra Dot Ultradot6 set at 2 moa. This pistol was built for NRA Action Pistol (Bianchi) shooting. Didn't have time to shoot from 50 yards today. Have a match tomorrow and was just sighting it in. I like practicing on the 1.25 inch dot targets. Makes the 4" dot on the AP target look like a basketball!
