Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Not difficult at all. Takes 10-20 seconds to take off the extension tube, and maybe a minute to put the extension tube back on since you have to compress & feed the long spring back into.
  2. I received my Stoeger $50 rebate check in the mail yesterday afternoon (12/10) for my M3000 I bought last month. I submitted my info via their online form on 11/16, so with the Thanksgiving holiday in between there, it took approx 15 business days to get the check from them
  3. Remind me again... are the Benelli M2 chokes that fit in the M3000's, and have the same thread pattern?
  4. MOA Precision has the Nordic extension tubes for $79, and those include the correct nut for the Stoeger mag tubes. That's what I recently picked up for my M3000.
  5. I actually just ordered one of these yesterday for my Stoeger M3000, so I could try it out with a KZ picatinny camera mount that I have. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Tactical-12GA-1-Shotgun-Mag-Tube-Tri-Rail-Picatinny-Mount-5-Sides-Mounts-/161041565988 Figured for $10 shipped, I can just toss it in the trash if it doesn't work. But I've used something similar in the past on a Maverick 88 mag tube and it held the light in place just fine.
  6. Already have a bunch of 1300~1500 fps 1oz slugs and buckshot to put through it first. Then a I'll try out the Wallyworld value pack 3-dram Federal shot shells afterwards.
  7. Thanks for the vid Jesse. It inspired me to put together my 24" M3000 that I picked up this past Thursday I didn't put too much into it yet as I want to see what I'm going to like (or dislike) about the gun when I test it out and break it in next weekend. So far I've done the following: Nordic +5 mag tube extension w/MOA nut MOA double sided safety GG&G M2 charging handle (turned it down to fit/cycle properly) Nordic M2 bolt release Nordic follower Limbsaver slip-on recoil pad (had it laying around from an 870) Polished mag tube Polished action bar where it contacts the mag tube Champion EasyHit green front sight (haven't put it on yet) Working on the M3000 is super easy and fun, but I'll admit the only thing that took me longer than expected was getting the magazine spring retaining cap out since I didn't have the right tools to compress it. But once I figured out a way to clamp it with some punches and needle nose pliers (and some patience), I finally got it out a few minutes later. I'm 6'3" so the LOP feels pretty good when I shoulder the gun right now, but that may change after next weekend. If I cut my stock down, I'll get a Kick Eez pad and grind it to fit. I'll also decide if I want to enlarge the loading ports and get more serious with the gun later. But for now, and after the $50 MIR, I'm in the gun at around $635. btw, my 5 yr old below is approx 45" tall, so the 24" barrel M3000 is slightly longer than him

    Holster Wear

On nylon (plastic) holsters like my Blade Tech, I usually wipe down the inside generously with a silicon cloth. It makes sliding the gun in & out much easier so I usually have to tighten up the retention screws. However, my Gen 4 G34 glides right in & out without any marring or scratches on the slide. There may be some excess silicone grease on the slide, but no signs of wear. Been doing this to my nylon holsters for a few years now and it seems to work for me. Doesn't work as well on my kydex holsters, probably because they're fitted much tighter around the frame, but still works better than with nothing.

Cerakote finishes are normally very tough & durable. However, like painting anything (house, car, etc) it all comes down to the prep work on the gun frame and parts. Anyone who knows what they're doing should be able to provide you with long lasting results. I'm not sure I agree with that. Although Cerakote is relatively durable and a really good spay and bake finish with a pretty hard result (mid 60's rockwell C i think), no matter how good your prep work is you are never going to be as durable as as other available finishes. Salt bath nitrocarburizing (tenifer) is about the same hardness as cerakote but wears longer. Pretty sure that's what glock factory slides use. DLC like the zev slide in the original post here has on it is probably more like Rc90. TiN is a lot like DLC, they are both PVD coatings. True. Cerakote doesn't hold up as well as to other finishes out there like titanium nitride or tenifer finishes, along with some others, but it's still pretty durable. I have a Glock 19 slide with an AlTiN coating and that thing is rock solid, no matter how much I holster it or hit it against the table. It will not show any wear at all. At the same time, I have an aftermarket slide for my Glock 17 with a cerakote finish on it, and the color highly resembles the factory finish & color. I tend to be more careful with that one just because I like to, but it hasn't shown any holster wear on it yet. Granted, I probably holster the G19 about 4-5 times more often than the G17 so that may also make a considerable difference. Ironically, these days you can pretty much get a titanium nitride coating over your barrel or slide for just a few bucks more than a cerakote job. I paid $80 for the cerakoted slide, and $100 for the AlTiN carbon black coated slide. Kind of makes it a no-brainer as to which finish one should get. Only real consideration is the limited color & finish options available with titanium nitride coatings right now.
  10. Good to know & hear. That pretty much answers my question I had a few pages back. Thanks!

  12. Spent the weekend reading through all 61 pages of this thread - great wealth of knowledge! I had actually started reading it earlier last week, and began looking for the 24" M3000 but saw most of the online stores (including Gun Broker) were all sold out of them. Most of those places said 4-6 weeks before they got anymore of the 24" models in. I decided to call the authorized Stoeger dealers in my area and found that Stoeger did have them in stock, and that each authorized dealer could have in in 5-7 business days. I had the closest shop to me, which happened to be the cheapest price too, order one up straight from Stoeger. Paid $475 + tax & DROS, so it came out to $537 OTD . Already began ordering up some parts for it like a M2 GG&G charging handle (I just liked the look of it), NC bolt release, NC mag tube from MOA, and already had a Limbsaver recoil slip-on pad that'll fit.... just a few things I wanted to do right away before ultimately deciding what I'll end up doing with the shotgun. I'm looking forward to the DIY work needed on the CH, bolt release, and polishing up the mag tube and installing everything. I'll decide later what to do about opening the ports after I've put some shell through it and get a better feel for things. I had a couple of questions (so far)... 1) I believe I read in the earlier pages that the Benelli M2 shims between the stock and receiver will not fit onto the M3000. Can anyone verify this? I was looking at the TTI rear sling mount, and was wondering if it's possible to make it fit onto the M3000 with some cutting or grinding, or if it was a totally different shape altogether that would not fit at all. 2) I've read that the Nordic aluminum followers are no longer teflon coated, but I've seen pictures of people running them in their M3000. While I like the MOA follower, I really wanted the red color follower (just a personal preference) but won't get one if it compromises reliability. Has anyone experienced any issues or binding problems with a mag extension and using the Nordic aluminum follower? Thanks, and looking forward to getting my M3000 later this month playing around with it.
  13. Yes and no. From my experience, I've used a Carver aluminum magwell on my Gen 3 G19 in the past and it actually made for a nice resting area for my pinky, almost similar feeling to using a G17 mag in the G19 frame with a slip-on grip extension. It actually made grabbing and handling the gun easier with the longer purchase. That said, if you did want to scrunch your fingers up higher to clear the magwell, then yes you could only get 2 or maybe 3 fingers on the grip if you have smaller hands. On my G19, I removed the finger grooves and undercut the trigger guard a bit so that my 3 big fingers easily fit onto G19 frame with no magwell. However, adding the magwell will take away a half inch at the bottom of the frame, and my pinky would still rest on it.
