  1. You did two of the things I would have recommended and that's changing a solid buffer out and trying a different trigger. I've built 8 AR9's between myself and friends and they all run 100% and the commonality between all of them is I used Kynshot hydraulic buffers and CMC 9mm triggers. They shoot powderpuff to hot ammo with no issues.
  2. I built my AR9 using a stripped Aero lower, Faxon 16 inch barrel with integral muzzle brake, A5 buffer tube, Blitzkrieg HD15 buffer, JP AR15 carbine buffer spring, CMC AR9 trigger, Mentium for-end and Sylvan Arms Glock magazine adapter for $900.00. The only personal mod I did was use my Dremel to break the outermost edge of the chamber cut. Probably not necessary but I can’t leave stuff alone. I used the Sylvan adapter because I had an extra stripped lower available. I now have three Sylvan adapters and all three run 100%. I do have a few dedicated AR9 lowers but this was my first AR9 build and I’m really comfortable with it. I use this one for USPSA and can’t even guess how many rounds I’ve put through it. I have never had a single malfunction that wasn’t ammo related and that was my fault. Ran short of ammo due to a reshoot and got some from a friend who managed to have a 380 round in his kit. In my haste I loaded the round and during the stage it actually chambered but of course, didn’t fire. I roll my own using Sport Pistol and 147 Berry’s. if you’re careful with what parts you use you can easily put together a 100% reliable shooter that is so smooth that sometimes they have to measure bullet holes to detect double taps and it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. My point is that with starting out with the right parts, you don’t have to spend a bunch to put together a very reliable and competitive PCC that’s easy and fun to build.
  3. I’ve built 308, 6.5 CM, 300BO, 224 Valkyrie, 223/556 and 9mm in the AR format and I installed KYNSHOT hydraulic buffers in ALL of them. The other important mod is the trigger. I do use Geissele triggers in my precision AR’s and CMC triggers in my duty type AR’s. Ive helped friends take very inexpensive AR 9’s and turn them into reliable and enjoyable to shoot platforms and it doesn’t break the bank. The two things you’ll find in a “cheap” AR9 is a one piece, solid buffer and too strong a recoil spring and a milspec AR trigger. Replacing the buffer with a KYNSHOT hydraulic 9mm buffer and a Wilson Combat flatwire AR15 carbine spring and replacing the milspec trigger with a CMC AR9 trigger which comes to less than 300 bucks total and turns a 400 dollar gun into a very enjoyable shooter. The difference in recoil is dramatic and a milspec AR trigger in a 9mm AR is usually horrible. It’s not just trigger pull because I’ve fired some “stock” AR9’s with milspec triggers that had such a severe case of trigger slap that I was done after twenty rounds…. A 3.5 lb trigger beats an 8lb trigger any day. last friend that I did this for said “where’s My 9” after he fired it.
  4. Unfortunately I can't remember the site but the shooter chrono'd like six different self defense loads in some PCC's with barrels varying between 8.5 and 16 inches and the minimum velocity increase was just over 200 fps. When my Garmin Xero shows up I'm gonna chrono the +P defense loads I keep in my house " 8.5 pistol"....
  5. I think you will REALLY be surprised after going to that site--- there is a TON of hands on info there......
  6. I have all three of the Kynshot 9mm buffers in different setups and would like to ask a few questions. I have 9mm PCC's set up for competition and PISTOLS set up for home defense with barrel lengths from 8.5 to 16 inches. The loads utilized range from 3.0 grn SP and 147's for steel to +P loads for defense and all of them except for one has JP carbine springs. One has a Tubbs flatwire AR15 spring but haven't spent any time with it yet. I tried heavier springs and I actually felt like the recoil impulse, especially going back into battery felt harder. Just curious, have you tried lighter springs? Have you ever looked at blowback 9's site?
  7. I've shot two AR9's with "standard" AR triggers, one being the first AR9 I built. The trigger slap was so horrible I could only stand 20 shots from my brand new build and my trigger finger felt like I'd hit it with a hammer. Let my big, 6ft 4 buddy shoot it-he lasted five rounds and said his fun meter was pegged. An other persons was equally as bad.... I have CMC triggers in all mine now........
  8. Just curious-as short as this weapon is, what requirement will be met with one of these muzzle devices? To qualify as a "pistol" the barrel has to be less than 16 inches and to qualify as a rifle, over 16 inches...
  9. I'm not sure where your are money wise, but a CMC 9mm trigger makes everything go bang.......
  10. I have a bunch of both the "factory" and ETS mags. I use the ETS mags for competition and the factory mags in my home defense AR pistol. The factory mags will not freely drop from three different 9mm AR lowers but the ETS mags will drop from all of them. I have taken the ETS mags apart when new and sprayed the insides with silicone lube ONCE and have never lubed them again. I use them weekly shooting USPSA PCC and have NEVER had an issue with them ever. I use the standard 30's, Botach extended base and the 40 round ETS mags and have NEVER had an issue with any of them. I put the Glock mags in my AR9 pistol because it has 30 rounds and it ain't gonna run out of boolits before I've done what needs to be done in my house...... They do NOT fall free from three different lowers.
  11. And just to clarify due to my poor wording, the modding is done to the DD mount, NOT the firearm.
  12. First off-too heavy? They weigh less than 5 ounces-I can’t feel that. I’m left handed and I have them on ALL of my AR’s so I can’t speak to the benefits for a righty, but you couldn’t pay me to go back to the “old style” charging handle. I have a couple billet uppers-one worked perfectly as installed and the other I had to remove a bit of the nub that contacts the side of the receiver. Took about 5 minutes with my trusty Dremel tool. All of mine are the forward attaching point because if you look at the possible sideward force applied to the system when you pull back on the handle, the most support is provided when the mount is secured at the forward end. I definitely have more than a couple of them and love ‘em.
  13. Again, just fish in’ here with some ideas….. Do ALL of the different brands of ammo occasionally fail to go bang or just the Mag Tech primers? Can you compare a fired Federal primer to a Mag Tech primer and see if there is a noticeable difference in the indentation? Don’t use a Mag Tech primer you had to strike twice to light off. If you can’t get the gun to go into battery 100% of the time with a15 lb spring and a6.5 lb striker there is something wrong with the pistol mechanically. Maybe you should take the striker back out, disassemble and reinstall the spring and try again. Lots of good stuff online that shows how to do it as a reference. Before you take the striker out of the slide, hook your thumbnail on it and see how it feels to move it. Take it apart, lube it and after assembly, see how it feels again
  14. I hate to say it but there must be something else going on that is hanging things up somehow. I put a 15 lb spring back in my SFX to get a sense of the increase in “spring force” and to ME it was a huge increase in the force applied to the slide to slam it back into battery. If it takes a SEVENTEEN pound spring to get the slide back into battery, there HAS to be something else going on. Regarding the primers-I did a search and some people are of the opinion that they are definitely on the hard side. This may be a stupid question but have you “plunk and rotate” tested the rounds you are currently shooting in the pistol? Obviously if the cartridge OAL is too long or there’s too much flare left in the case mouth, that would cause issues. Just grasping at straws here!
  15. Used my Gibbz lower for the first time yesterday and it worked great/100%. I need to do a BUNCH more dry fire practice because during the classifier I STILL used my right hand to release the mag!!! Dang old timers disease!!!!!!!
  16. Also, what primers are you using? My pistol lights off CCI small rifle primers (when that’s all I had) 100%.
  17. I have a W74 with a 13 lb commander spring, 6.5 ghost, aftermarket trigger and return spring and my Canik works great. Now if I SLOWLY release the slide, I have to SLIGHTLY touch the back of the slide to get it fully into battery and it’s JUST a hair out. I forgot that I also replaced the plunger safety spring and smoothed up the plunger as it didn’t slide smoothly in its machined hole. I’m not a big guy (175 lbs) and I can fire one hand weak hand all day without a single failure. I don’t understand what the issue is with your pistol that requires a 17 lb spring to get it into battery. I could actually get mine to function with a 12 lb spring but my weak hand is pretty weak and it would occasionally fail to cycle properly.
  18. ChuckS you described the exact situation that I'm expecting to use the laser in! Mine is a Viridian HS1 which is part of a hand stop and it is awesome! I have used mine (I have three) quite a bit but I just put one on my PCC.
  19. Thanks for your reply! In case I'm questioned, where would I find a reference to its eligibility? Being a Lefty, I find that usually tight, "around the barrier" shots "seem" to favor those of the right handed persuasion and I thought it might help a bit. I love my red dot but I'm an old fart and don't bend so good anymore and sometimes the only option is to change shoulders and that eats up time...... Thanks again for your response.
  20. I looked in the rule book and couldn't find the info but I was told that a laser could be used on a PCC. I have a match tonight and hope I can get an answer or I'll need to remove my forward hand guard to insure I don't accidentally activate it. It will not be used except for weird, around the corner barricade shots.
  21. I have one 9 with the standard buffer AND the weight and the rest have the HD buffers and weight and to be honest, I'm not good enough to see any difference in splits shooting a 135 PF 147 load in 16 inch barrels. I do get the sense that I feel just alittle less "bolt bounce". I will be ordering the HD versions for any future builds, regardless.
  22. CMC PCC trigger that's been 100% CCI AR rifle match, CCI magnum rifle and all the regular primers.
  23. I had the same issue with a forged upper receiver but it was a simple fix. The part of the unit that makes contact with the receiver just in front of the "regular" charging handle needs to be ground down a bit as the unit is designed for "milspec" uppers. I took my trusty Dremel to it and it took about five minutes of grind and fit to get it to work properly. I contacted the manufacturer and he said my fix was exactly what was required and stated that the unit was designed to fit milspec uppers and that forged uppers were just a bit thicker and would cause a bind if the "nub" wasn't taken down a bit. Did it on two forged uppers and they work like a champ.
