  1. Charcoal is more betta, but LP is sure handy when you want to grill up some meat when it is cooooold outside. Open hood...open valve...press button....FIRE! Go back in warm house and let it heat up awhile with the lid closed before you bring the meat out. Turn that sucker up and get it rolling.
  2. Randolph Ranger XLW's and/or RR Edge is what I use. Get a few sets of lenses based on the background you most often shoot. Pale yellow and CMT can work darn near everywhere and will cover you for bright sun and very limited light. Pick another color or two based upon where you shoot. For example the purple works pretty well for me on a lush green background to make the targets pop (stand out) from the background. Snow and desert environments require a different choice. I long to see that lush green background again...soon.
  3. Welcome, Kalison! I have heard it said...you probably won't save any $ by reloading, but you will shoot more.
  4. BBI and also Bayou (165 & 180). For me, accuracy has been better.
  5. 1.250 for the majority of my 45acp loads works in all barrels. Crimp varies some, but hovers ~.470
  6. A perfect base is more important to accuracy than a perfect tip..true. No one has mentioned yet.... Hollow point projectiles are the best of both accuracy worlds...comparatively longer (stable) and lighter (faster). Granted pistol rounds are not enduring the long flight that a rifle round will, but there are definite benefits to a longer projectile. Increased bearing surface could help too.
  7. Welcome to the forum! If you hang around here much you will want to give it go someday.
  8. On the MecGar P16 mags I have, the tubes are shorter (~2mm) than the Armscor/RIA supplied mag. The concern I had was that some +capacity bases may not lock in. Glad to hear that the Dawsons locked in, functioned, & dropped free properly in conjunction with the OEM magwell.. Guess my concerns were valid. I have the MG branded p16 in nickel from Greg.
  9. Currently using BBI's and have been very pleased. I can't speak to the Titegroup deal because I have not had occasion to use it with any coated. Bayou's have worked extremely well and were accurate. I only noticed just a hint of odd smell once in awhile. Nothing that objectionable at all, but smells vaguely like burnt wires. I used some stinky shotgun powders over the years, and this faint smell doesn't bother me. I have heard that the distinctive odor comes from incomplete curing of the coating used, but can't confirm that. I like these coated bullets. Order up a few sample paks and see what you guys think.
  10. A high of 4 today, with 30mph windchill to -21F. The real fun is tonight when the ACTUAL air temperature is forecast to be -10F.

    No more Para!

Consolidation of manufacturing. Remington/Freedom Group is moving multiple lines to Alabama. Facilities in NY, MN, NC, WY are closing to reopen in AL. The rebates and pricing reflect a desire to sell off inventory prior to the move.
  12. Not a bad load at all, but you may want to try out some different powders to get away from the sticky residue. Bullseye, Tightgroup, 231 (can be dirty too, but works better/cleaner on the higher end), maybe Clays. Depends upon what you have or can get your hands on...still spotty out there. I would look for BE & TG first. Thankfully you have options. Some of the other guys will likely chime in some good suggestions also. OR...just shoot up your current load, then try some sample packs of the new coated bullets.
  13. For most it's... capacity capacity capacity. If you don't reload? Definitely 9mm If you reload? Consider 40S&W. I think the flexibity that is available is worth the slight loss in capacity.
  14. I also like Unique, but it can be dirty. Especially using lighter bullets at lower pressure. Post up your load details for us. You may actually be better served by moving away from moly over to poly coated or plated bullets. Then, find a faster powder more suited to your use.
  15. Fairly common. If you have any extra room at all... Try leaving the mags loaded to full capacity to see if they free up slightly, which may give you that small margin needed. Trimming the spring may give you last round failure to feed and/or slide lock failures. Option B is to use a different follower/spring combo. IMHO, Tripp followers are the best, but are a little thicker.
  16. The very front portion of the the flat metal Mec Gar P16 base pad interfered with the magwell. After removing some of the radius on the front of the metal base, they lock in, function, and drop free. Base pad replacement is mandatory for extension below the magwell on the Pro Match 40 anyway.
  17. Well done, Dutchman! Sounds to me like you are on your way. Welcome to the forum.
  18. Good evening, TN3gun. Welcome to the forum!
  19. Never seen CCI (Blazer) Brass 45acp that had crimped primer pockets. But... it does have a rather sharp transition to the primer pocket, which makes it tough with some SPP.
  20. On the MecGar P16 mags I have, the tubes are shorter (~2mm) than the Armscor/RIA supplied mag. The concern I had was that some +capacity bases may not lock in. Glad to hear that the Dawsons locked in, functioned, & dropped free properly in conjunction with the OEM magwell.
  21. Grease and tighten up snuggly. If you use Loctite you will ultimately regret it, someday.
  22. Welcome to the forum, Chili! You can pick up a lot here, and then hit the ground running when you find a local range.
  23. Hey Chuck, sounds like you've got it pretty good. Enjoy the remainder of your weekend. My hunny-do list awaits..... after another cup of coffee.
