This last Steel Challenge match I went to it happened once or twice per stage (5 strings per stage if you are not familiar with Steel Challenge). Didn't happen every stage though. If I do approximate math each stage was 25 targets and to accommodate my occasional miss we will round up to 30. 7 stages x 30 per stages so roughly 210 rounds. I had it happen probably 10 times through out the 210 rounds. I hate blaming mechanical things and would rather say it is my grip but I do not feel like my grip has changed and this all started recently. I used to have no problems at all. This started at a Classifier match I went to a few weeks ago and there was some one handed shooting and I did not experience it then but they were such short strings I do not think it is a fair assessment of that. It could be a combination of grip and spring? Maybe the spring is weakened at this point so it can not resist my grip?

Recently my slide has randomly been going to slide lock when the magazine still has ammunition in it. I thought it could be my grip but nothing has changed on it in the last 3 years of shooting it and this problem started in the last month or so. I did recently change out to a tungsten guide rod, added a thug plug and changed to stainless steel trigger pins. I thought maybe the trigger pins but it was several matches after the change that it started to do this. I recently cleaned it and that helped for one indoor match but it went back to doing it afterwards. It has absolutely no pattern to when it does it. I did notice when I cleaned it that the spring on the slide stop was loose in the sense that it moved back and forth in the slide stop. Is that an indication that it needs to be replaced? I have not changed it out and have roughly 10,000 rounds through it.

So I live in a relatively nice apartment complex but I still play it like I do not own any guns. My current range bag is my old one when I was in the police academy and it is relatively nondescript which is nice but I want to go a little more "grey man". What range bags are range bags but do not look anything like range bags. I was looking at backpacks but the issue is they are usually covered in MOLLE which defeats it purpose and do not do great at holding the belt rig. I would like to fit: -Gun -Ammo -Safariland ELS belt w/ holster attached on a mid ride adapter & inner belt -Eyes & ears -Water bottle Any input from experience would be appreciated!

It is currently sitting at 30.55 oz. with an empty magazine. Glock's website states that a factory 34 with an empty magazine is 25.93 oz. To put it in comparison: Sig Sauer P320 X5 (no magwell): 33.5 oz CZ Shadow 2: 47 oz CZ75 A01: 51 oz (I think this is the heaviest gun on the USPSA Production List even though maximum weight is now 59 oz!)

So post range report from shooting a match after adding all that weight to my Glock. In my personal opinion it makes a huge difference. Recoil was super easy to manage and I was able to reacquire a sight picture much faster making my splits more accurate and faster. 10/10 would advise doing. I just got a Glockstore Pure Tungsten Guide Rod, Thug Plug, and stainless steel trigger pins for my Gen 3 34. According to my math it comes in at 5.94 oz. A Surefire X300 with batteries comes in at 4.3 oz. I have a match Thursday night and Saturday so I will report my findings on Sunday if I remember.

Besides the guide rod and thug plug I am not sure what else I can do to increase the weight. I might look at brass base pads as well.

I have been seriously eyeballing the Stock II Xtreme but I have been told per dollar value its better to go with the CZ A01-LD. I have a pair of SP-01 in the safe that I will eventually get around to doing something with lol.

On Monday I am shooting a match right after work so I will weigh the slide then and post it. The Seattle Slug is a little longer than the Thug Plug. From what I am reading the Thug Plug will also need some filing to make it Production compliant but it is a lot less than the Seattle Slug.

I ordered a 15 lbs. spring to be as close to factory as possible. I did some research and 16 lbs. is factory but for some odd reason the Glock 34 extended pure tungsten guide rod from glockstore does not include that weight (no clue why). Yes so the Thug Plug adds weight to cavity at the rear of the grip. Gen 3's are the heaviest since that cavity is the largest. Gen 4's interchangeable back straps cut down on the space available. The way I look at it is from a physics standpoint. A stationary heavy weight and a light moving weight is the most ideal for shooting so increase the weight of anything that is stationary and lighten the moving mass. Since Production rules 21.2b now allows weight reduction of the slide I am probably going to get some front cocking serrations added and maybe throw a window or two in it.

Some of you guys may be following my USPSA Production Glock 34 in another thread but I thought I would make a thread on people being able to voice their opinions on what connectors they run since there are SOOOO many available on the market. Please limit your review to a connector you actually have run and have an opinion on (either positive or negative). I have been running a factory 34 connector or how the factory calls it a "minus" connector in a Gen 3 and personally like it but I am wondering if the grass is greener on the other side.

So just to keep everyone up to date on how things are with my project here is what is going on. I shot a local match over the weekend and got the hang of my Trijicon HD XR sights which was nice. I placed an order to Glockstore for a pure tungsten guide rod, stainless steel control pins, and a thug plug. The items I ordered should add more weight than a Surefire X300 with batteries which I do have experience running on my 34 and like the way it handles.

Yes. So I am doing my best not to chase upgrades which is why I have left my Glock 34 completely stock for the last 2 years of shooting USPSA Production. I finally upgraded my sights a few weeks ago to Trijicon HD XR that I love a lot. I know fiber optic is probably better for competitive shooting but I do shoot this gun in low light courses at times as well so I wanted night sights. I have been toying with recoil spring weights. I think factory weight is 16 pounds and I am keep that. I do want to get front serations cut on my slide though.

I know that a huge part of where things fall apart is more on me than the gun. I am huge believer in the saying "it's the Indian not the arrow". That being said though I feel like I can focus more on shooting if I am fighting less recoil (even though factory 9mm 124 grn barely puts out any). If my math is right between the Thug Plug and pure tungsten guide rod I am adding 5.9 oz and a Surefire X300 with batteries is 4.3 oz. I have run my 34 with an X300 a lot in tactical courses and I like how it handles better so hopefully this will help. I am looking at the over-travel stop to minimize wasted movement (although it is probably so minimal that it won't make a difference). I have the Zev enlarged mag release on my carry 19 and I love it so that is why I am bringing that over.

So I have been shooting a Glock 34 in USPSA Production for some time now completely stock. I actually didn't even clean it when I bought it because I wanted to see what is the failure point for it. Somewhere 6,000-7,000 rounds was when I started consistent failure to feed. After a complete cleaning and relubing it went back to running like a top. Anyways to the point. A lot of changes happened in USPSA Production recently including the weight going up to 59 oz. To keep my Glock 34 competitive with the guys running Tangfoglios and CZs I have decided to add some weight the my 34. I have been looking at the Glockstore's Thug Plug (adding 2.38 oz. which puts me at a total of 28.31 oz.) and getting Glockstore's Pure Tungsten Extended 34 Guide Rod (adding another 3.52 oz which puts me at 31.84 oz) but it looks like that is all I can think of on adding weight besides getting an aftermarket slide with no window cut in it unless anyone has any input on that. I have seen people custom making grip plugs out of tungsten putty and weights but I am not sure if it is worth the effort over buying and installing the Thug Plug. I tried searching to see if anyone makes a Thug Plug out of tungsten but I came up empty handed (pretty sure because tungsten is difficult to machine no one thinks it is worth the time). I have also been thinking about adding an over-travel stop to the trigger housing and changing out my magazine release with a Zev one that has a larger surface area. Per rule 21.6 in those upgrades should be legal for Production right?

It's looking more and more likely I am going to go with Don.

I may have to shoot over a call and have him go through it. The previous owner did a trigger job on it that I like a lot. I have decided on VZ grips and a Dawson magwell. I mentioned before that I have a Caspian 9mm slide now with no sight cuts and is so tight I can't get it on all the way. All that is left is the CMORE and the barrel / comp and getting someone to fit it all together. I did email Don, he told me he charges more for Para builds. I think it has to do with the grip and extra work. It wasn't much, a couple hundred. Would you happen to know if he does slide milling? I would like to reduce the weight of the slide and add a slide racker. I'm sure Don does, if not you might want to checkout Gary Natale at gansguns.com, I had a full custom build from him, took him a week and a half to turn a box of parts into a one off custom gun. His website has prices and various slide cuts. I don't know if he does para receivers, but slide cuts should be no problem. I was originally going to go with Gans Guns but it's all over his website that he won't touch anything from California... :/
