I deviated to X5 Legion for a while. Was actually my second P320, from an X5 Full before that. But my accuracy in that rig (the Legion)  just wasn't anywhere close to my Oz9 or any of my Glock platforms, much less my 2011s and Shadow2. Especially with 147s which is my common load for all my 9mms.  It was better in 124s. I'd do some reading around here on the P320s accuracy before you make the jump. It's the first time I ever really ran into a 'this thing just won't group' with a modern gun, and its not an uncommon occurrence. Now my buddies ran okay. Not a tack driver, but good enough. I think it's sloppy lock up and and kind of luck on the draw from rig to rig. And with the X5 Legion at the time I was a little limited on what could be done about it, because of the uniqueness of the 5" bull barrel that wasn't common to the rest of the p320 line. I think now there may be a few more aftermarket barrels.

Glad to hear they're going to replace it -and have another run of them in the fall. I really liked the weight of the tungsten in my Legion, and would like it in the Zev. Coming from steel framed fatties, it's always been a comfort having the heavier gun in my hands. I can run the plastics, but I still miss the weight. But couldn't find any of the Zev tungs frames.

My buddy who switched to a X5 Legion is having similar issues. Stuck slides with live rounds in the tube when he shoots 147s. It worked a little better with 124 but he is not getting the accuracy he desires. He is telling me the recoil impulse is fantastic but still not getting the desired results that are even close to similar to his Glock 17.

Made me loose some faith in it and I might be back on the Glock train. I am still considering piecing together a OZ9. I love the modular frame but I do not really care for the frills. I would probably buy a frame and transfer some relatively stock Glock 34 components on it.

An update -- in case some are interested.

My tungsten grip module broke. See photos.

I discovered this during a dry fire practice at home. It must have happened during a live fire practice the weekend before. (Luckily it didn't break then, as the idea of the upper flying back at me isn't entertaining.)

I have shot about 3,000 rounds. All 115 gr., a mixture of 9mm minor reloads and factory 9mm. It saw one local USPSA match. And all other live fires were in an indoor range. It has been in and out of holster many times during dry fire practice. It was never dropped.

The grip module is now back at Zev. They said they will replace it once the new ones come out in the fall.

I do not know if it is a manufacturing issue or design issue.

That is really concerning that it broke like that from that little use. Making reevaluate this or going to the dark side and getting a 320 Legion

I got someone bringing me some SuperVel long to Kentucky next week to try.

For those of you following this thread to potentially try the same thing Dirty_J has confirmed that this does NOT work. Looks like I will be sticking to my OEM Glock mags.

An OEM Glock 40 cal tube is 1.20” front to back. An MBX 40 cal Glock tube is 1.235”

Neither measurement accounts for the actual angle the round sits in the tube.. just the distance between the parallel walls.

I would say not enough of a difference to go from regular 1.12”/1.13” 40 OAL or 40 Long @ 1.185”

If you have access to some 40 long..

bring it to the next match we shoot together. You can try in my MBX 40 mags. 😊

I thought that was you. I was like "I know that avatar from somewhere" lol

For sure. Now to see if Super Vel will sell me a test batch or bother one of their sponsored shooters for a few rounds to see if it fits and feeds.

This thing still needs a barrel and KKM is like 7 weeks out. I might ask to steal yours for a test 😅

Why are you set on the “long” version of the ammo?

I am not set so to say. I am just trying to see if it would work with something as simple as using MBX mags. If it is not I have a bunch of Glock 22 magazines that I will just run with Taran baseplates if it comes to the long ammo not working. Just trying to figure it out before buying MBX mags and the ammo.

I've asked www.spintaprecision.com and that's where i got my slide from. Give them a call or email them. They can also make the barrel if needed.  Just sharing

Yea I have been in talks with Sam over there for the last year or so. COVID and the Global supply chain have made it difficult for them to acquire the raw materials. I actually found one of his older generation slides on Ebay and I decided to snag it since the last time I waited I got into this mess.

  7. Shucks. I was hoping that maybe MBX's experience with making 2011 mags and it being just steel could have bought them the room needed to run these longer loaded .40.

I am primarily a Production shooter where I shoot a Glock 34. To mix things up and to train to be more aggressive on open targets I am shooting the same gun in A fudgecicle nobody but a few crayon chewers and winder likkers want and just want something different. I have a Glock 31 slide with a Taylor Freelance sight block and a KKM .40 barrel it does not work with the new DC Precision frame weight I have. No offense to TF but I am really not in love with the look of the new generation sight block. I tried finding an older generation one but could not seem to find one.

  8. So I am finishing the bottom half of a Glock 24 Limited build and now moving on to the top half where I am looking for either an OEM Glock 24 slide or a Spinta Glock 24 slide (which ever I can get my hands on first) and a KKM barrel. I want to run Super Vel's .40 180 grn Competition Long ammunition with an OAL of 1.185". Super Vel says on the website that they will not fit normal .40 magazines and might not reliably feed in non 1911/2011 platforms. I emailed MBX to see if they're Glock 140mm magazines will fit them but does anyone know if they 1 will fit and two if any other feeding issues may arise.

    Thanks for the input!

im my opinion, the "accu" part is kinda a waste of money unless you want it "just because".  these guns are very mechanically accurate, far more than your human ability to shoot...not you personally I mean just all people.  At least for practical action pistol.  first thing id do is run the gun stock in a few matches and see what you like.  easiest / fastest mod is Cajun extended firing pin and 11 and 13 pound hammer springs.  that's going to significantly reduce your stock DA pull.

Run that for a bit and decide what you think needs fixing.  basically, the answer is 1 of 2 things, CZC parts or cajun gun works parts.  whole kits are 350-400 for the full install, or you can just get bits a pieces which each do different things.

in my opinion, non shadows are inherently worse than shadows, especially shadow 2s which are the best out of the box.  this is because shadows do not have firing pin blocks, and shadow 2s actually have pretty good stock hammers, etc and can get a pretty amazing trigger pull with jut a spring change.

non shadow SP01s, not as easy.  I think the full cajun kit is going to work wonders for these guns, versus a lot of shadow 2 owners feel less value in the full cajun kit.  your money is probably better spend in cajun parts than a new slide / accu bushing.

I may shoot it stock for a while. That is what I did with my current production pistol (Glock 34) and I was able to better grasp what I wanted to change. The other thing I am contemplating is should I try the SP01 or just sell it and get a Shadow 2? The only reason I got the SP01 was because I was in California at the time. Now that is no longer an issue I am tempted to just get a Shadow 2. I was considering a Tanfoglio Stock II but some people have told me that the Shadow 2 is a better option.

In .40 yes, in 9mm, no.

All .40 barrels are 14mm OD, but 9mm barrels are 12.75mm OD in 75B and 75BSA, but 14mm OD in TS/CM, SP01, Shadow

Awesome. Also had a buddy that owns both to test it. He says some fitting but shouldn't be complex. He advises sending it to CZ Custom which I probably will do.

  11. Does anyone know if a Tac Sport barrel will fit in a standard CZ75 slide (minor fitting ok).

The reason I ask is this barrel should extend past the slide enough to get proper threading on.

I know you can put a Tac Sport slide on a SP01 with some machining so I am curious if you can fit that barrel to a CZ75b slide in .40

The grip is narrower and you'll be at a capacity disadvantage. I think a 140mm .40 mag in the 75 series guns holds 16. I haven't bothered to try, but stock length is 12. In the TS frame guns you can get up to 21 in a 140mm.

True. I shoot Production currently so I have been getting good at reloading lol

I hate you... now you have me thinking about doing something similar to my beat up S1.

    hahahahahahhahaha

Yea due to miscommunication between myself and the shop I worked at I ended up buying a used SP01 and a new SP01 but with a combined price of under $800 I decided to take them both lol. One I plan on keeping for Production and one I have been wanting to make into a Limited Major gun.

For the Limited gun I was going to put on a Tac Sport .40 slide and a kitchen sink sized magwell and make it SAO. I guess I waited too long and now I can not seem to get a Tac Sport .40 slide but I do have a spare CZ75B in .40 so I can move that slide over, get a threaded barrel, and then figure out a sight tracker solution like you have here.

I don’t think there will ever be a big enough market to justify machining a brass grip.
1/8” sheets of brass only cost me $15, and a lot of time with a carbide burr bit.
The one I did came out to 40oz with a 140mm tti extension. You could use tf brass extensions too, but I don’t like how you could feel the mag move a little with every shot.

It would be similar to the new 2011 grip modules that are metal. Would be interesting but it would be so niche that I doubt who ever made them would turn a profit unless Zev made it and offered it. They should do it like the 320 and either infuse tungsten or add weight modules inside the grip.

Which ones do you like and which ones to avoid?

    Thanks

So I run HSGI pistol Taco pouches modified to work with a Safariland ELS belt. I shoot a lot of different handguns inside and outside of USPSA so the Taco pouches work great for the universal aspect but they are a little tall. HSGI now makes a kydex option in a "mini" format that is a little shorter which I am going to give a shot after Georgia State this weekend. I don't want to change anything before a major match. Not the time to try new things lol.

This gun started its life as a regular Shadow production gun, then I got bored and designed a compensator cone thread adapter to fit off the shelf bull barrel comps.
Cut the slide and frame, threaded the barrel, modified it to allow the barrel to be removed from the front. Lightened the slide. Did not like the off the shelf comp and designed a couple my self that worked better.

Got completely bitten by Open division (nothing else is fun or fast anymore) and will now modify my Shadow 2 to become a compensated open division gun.

So that had me thinking what could I do with my old shadow that is already modified. Let's make a sight block gun to shoot IPSC Standard Division minor with.

I designed the sight block to have as much meat as possible and still fit the box.

With the spring setup you see in the video I actually got better and faster return to zero with some more snappy Maxxtech 115grain factory ammo. And the best part is, they didn't feel that snappy at all compared to a regular Shadow without a sight block.

Is there a build thread for this gun? I am very much interested in going this route to build a CZ SP01 Limited Major gun. I was originally going to slap a Tac Sport .40 slide on it and call it a day but like I previously mentioned they seemed to have disappeared.

I’ve read a few times of people building up epoxy on the sides of their frame to add some width and that as long as the profile of the gun isn’t changed when looking at it from the side, and no beavertail or magwell is made, that’s fine.

What if you made palm swells for the sides of your frame out of brass? Either grip tape or silicone carbide over top.

Here’s an oz9 I’ve been messing with. Rules may differ slightly, because I modified the grip, not the frame. This would be the equivalent of adding brass Lok grips to a shadow 2.

I am starting a new Open gun project and decided to convert my "old" Shadow Open gun into a IPSC Standard Division minor gun with a sight block configuration.

I have not shot it yet but I look forward to seeing how it behaves.

This is super cool! Is this a store bought item or something you have machined yourself? I would love to get my hands on one since I can not seem to find a Tac Sport slide in .40 to make my SP-01 into a limited gun.

  19. So to follow up on this thread a buddy of mine who doesn't shoot USPSA wanted my 10 rounders and offered a one for one trade for black Wilson ETM magazines. Now to see if any more pop up for sale. I usually like having 10 mags in my possession (not all on my belt but in case I need to rotate one in). If anyone knows someone off loading any (I will make a separate post in the Classifieds about this) black 8 round Wilson ETM magazines please let me know!

Also I saw someone selling some 8 round Wilson ETM for a compact 1911 and it looks like the only difference is in the basepad? Can someone confirm that if I just switch out baseplates if this will work in a standard 1911?
