  1. Still confused (us old ****'s get that way). In single stack, isn't the maximum count in the mag dictated by caliber (only 9/38super gets the +1)? If we're talking L10, and the stages are all spitting distance like El Presidente, I can see a slight advantage. As the distance increases, I see less benefit in being scored minor in return for a few extra rounds. But that may say more about my skill level then it does about the concept. ;-)
  2. We have 1 guy who shoots with us (out of the 60+ in our area who use the 2011 platform) who has his STI Edge setup this way. I have observed - it seems to work really well for him - I've also observed that in past 15+ years I've never seen him shoot anything but that particular STI in USPSA - I've shot his Edge in competition, index finger mag release doesn't seem to help me any. For me it's not better, just different.
  3. I'm curious. Why would you want to shoot .40 S&W minor in Single Stack division?
  4. Ambi on my STI Edge, a mix of ambi's and conventionals on the various 1911's I have/have had. I guess my vote would be "don't care" as I never saw a need to convert any of my conventionals to ambi......(and yes, I'm right hand dominant)
  5. Currently only one per month (Steel Challenge). For a number of years was doing eight matches per month - a mix of USPSA, Steel Challenge, Cowboy and IDPA. There are 10 matches per month available in my tri-city area; if I was willing to drive 60 miles per match (one way), I could add another 8 per month at a nearby city.
  6. I like shooting 10mm. A Glock 20 in Limited, Colt Delta Elite in Single Stack. I lucked into some good sources for 10mm brass early on. So mostly I've grumbled about the rise in cost of primers and bullets over the last two decades.....brass hasn't been an issue for me. Been shooting 180gr jacketed using Hogdon TiteGroup. Not sure I'm remembering the load correctly off the top of my head and my logbook is with my reloading gear elsewhere so I'm not going to put a number here.
  7. plug "dinh road rage murder seattle uspsa" into Google and an interesting mix of stuff comes up, including http://www.cbsnews.com/news/yancy-noll-murder-road-rage-turned-deadly-or-thrill-kill/ which is the 48 Hours episode.
  8. Been using Dropbox to move new versions of Practiscore onto the Nooks. Came across this article this morning. http://www.eweek.com/storage/slideshows/what-the-end-of-mailbox-carousel-means-for-dropboxs-storage-business.html?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=EWK_NL_EP_20151209_STR1L2&dni=290056578&rni=24337819
  9. John Wick 2 filming underway in Brooklyn http://screenrant.com/john-wick-2-filming-brooklyn/?utm_source=SR-FB-B&utm_medium=Facebook-Distribution&utm_campaign=SR-FB-B
  10. Doesn't your phone has Google Play Store or Amazon Appstore? Update app from there. Phone pulls from google play. Interesting thing is, I'm home now and looking at one of my nooks running ps 1.2.30 (201506071728) and it DOES have an 'Update App' bar at bottom of Sync screen. So this is a 1.2.30 nook-only feature?
  11. Which 1.2.30 build? I have 201506071828 build and it shows it. See attached. I have 1.2.30 on my phone; it DOES NOT show "UPDATE APP", but the postscript number on mine is 201506071728, which is LESS than yours. I'll have to check the NST's tonite; I'm at work and the nooks are sitting in a closet 20 miles away......
  12. I've been grabbing the latest .apk from practiscore.com, putting it in dropbox, then using the dropbox app root'n'scoreit installed to pull down onto the NST's. If there's a data microsd card in the nook slot, it prompts me to install the new .apk as soon as dropbox finishes delivering it.
  13. Good to know. My ancient Midway 1292 died 30 minutes into a session a week ago. I went down to Harbor Freight and picked up the 5# unit because I didn't like the online prices I was seeing for the various 'name' tumblers (plus shipping costs, and ordering hassle....).
  14. Started in 1979 with a Lee Loader (yeah, the little cylinder kit of tools that you whacked with a plastic or rubber mallet, to make ammo one round at a time) in .357 to feed a Ruger Blackhawk because in college I had more spare time than spare dollars.....things progressed predictably from there over the next 35 years......
  15. Models 300 and 350. There is a later model that is also called Glowlight which is NOT compatible with the NST Glowlight (BNVR350)
  16. If your range has wifi AND if you booted all your devices in the presence of that wifi AND none of the devices wander beyond wifi range (+- 100 yds) then you could sit in the stat shack and every 10 minutes or so sync up with the device(s) out on the stages to pull in recently input scores to your master device. now if I can just figure out how to VPN from my house to the range, I could score matches without having to drive out to the range. ;-)
  17. Running same mix of ipad and nooks as you. (but don't have internet access in the clubhouse....) simple questions first.... what version of practiscore on the ipad? what version of IOS on the Ipad? what version of practiscore on each of the nooks?
  18. - we use 5 sec. penalties instead of 3 sec. - previous software we used for our steel matches (written by a member who was a db admin) would let us take the best 3 runs of 5 (instead of 4 of 5). we'd like the option to do that under PS.
  19. {begin quote} Small club in a rural area, techie-people are the minority, small budget. Most matches have 35 shooters, but we may have an 11-bay Sectional every third year or so. We have a few guys who want to go PS. The remainder are impartial. No internet at our range, but we can use a portable router to create a range network. After doing some reading, my impression is that the NST offers the best combination of price, daylight readability, and battery life. Discontinued but still available. Easy to root(-n-score-it). Until the android upload capabilities are fleshed out, we can synch to an old ios device for uploading scores. Etc. If we want to be serious about establishing full PS capability, we'll need 18 NST devices: 11 slaves, 1 master, and 6 long-term backup units (purchased now because they are available now and importantly, because they are cheap now). We'll also need a portable router and a used ios device. {end quote} My club numbers are similar to yours in some ways. +- 30 per match. Big match occasionally (once a year). Where we differ is - we have the nooks already - we run more matches per month than you do - we have 3+ computer & network guys who rotate overseeing individual matches - we have a good pool of tablet device literate shooters to serve as stage score-keepers I am reading between the lines that 1) budget is an issue 2) you don't have a sufficient pool of wireless networking & computer savvy help already in place (they need to pre-exist; trying to create them as you go is doomed to failure unless your group is A LOT more motivated than it appears.....) If I were in your shoes, I would consider continuing to run the monthly match on paper/EZwinscore a very viable alternative (if it ain't broke, don't fix it). I would however "hire out" the operation of the once in a blue moon large match to someone else, rather than run it myself. If you decide to pursue the Practiscore option anyway, I wouldn't buy 11+ nooks for only 35 shooters. I'd buy one for each squad, plus one extra. And again, I'd farm out operation of the large match to someone else.
  20. Been paddling lazily along with my 3 nooks still on 1.2.18 because it was working ok for me; but the 'Next competitor' feature is going to make me get off my butt and upgrade them. ;-)
  21. here's a hint, if yer under 30 you never heard this one.... "80 men died trying to end that spree"
  22. Eureka! Yes, I can see how clubs north of the border don't have a pressing need to upload classifier files to USPSA. I now understand the "parallel but different" evolution of the IOS and Android versions. For my fellow USPSA stats guys, I'll make two observations. 1) Submitting classifiers to USPSA is a whole lot easier if you can avoid using EZWinScore, especially if you don't have internet access at the range. Apple seriously pissed me off in the late 70's (either Jobs, Markulla or both are to blame) so it chaps my hide to give them any money. But doing classifier reports the long way with android-to-ezwinscore also chapped my hide. I picked up a NIB 1st generation Ipad Mini 16gig wifi thru Walmart.com for $219 and use it to submit classifier reports, and sometimes as the Master tablet (prefer the display on my 10" android tablet). 2) You can pick up a good bluetooth keyboard for $40 or less if you shop around. I picked up an HP k4000 on sale at Best Buy for $20. The Ipads and almost all of the android tablets will work with them. For use on your master tablet, it's definitely worth the money.
  23. Thanks for the post! So, you might have figured out that the Nook, up until now, is the best overall scoring computer on the market. You can't beat the price, and it works really well for being a completely hacked computer. You need a bit of geek to get it going and keep it going, but they work. Practiscore alone probably contributed to selling thousands of these. Word! ;-) I know that much of Target and Walmart's left over stock liquidated courtesy of PS The GlowLight Nook can't hold a candle to the Fire HD 6. I was under the impression that the post-Simple Touch version of Glowlight would not run PS?
  24. when you figure it out, please share! I too am ios-challenged......
  25. I don't expect much from gun handling via hollywood, so I usually just 'suspend disbelief' and enjoy. I noticed that - that was one FULL SERVICE hotel - Keanu remembers how to reload ;-) - The scene with Ms Perkins and the 4 enforcers from the hotel looks like there would have been some shoot-thru casualties with real ammo.... :-( and, loved David Patrick Kelly's bits as the 'cleaner'.
