Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Thank you for the discussion! I want to be sure that reliability is sorted out with standard 32 rounders before trying the extensions. The Duramags came off of CMMG’a website, so my initial (and probably incorrect) supposition was that those were the mags used in developing the Colt-mag RDB solution. The Metalforms appear to be generally well thought-of, particularly compared to the Duramags.
  2. Hi gang, I've got all the various parts and pieces together for a 16" CMMG RDB PCC. I'm using CMMG's Colt-pattern lower along with their RDB upper, barrel, and bolt. I just need my gunsmith's availability to open back up to get this thing stitched together. I've been working on getting to a good mag situation, and have 3 each of the C Products Defense Duramags, the Brownell's mags, and the Metalforms. The Brownell's and Metalforms appear to differ only in finish, while the Duramags have a polymer follower and different geometry on the feed lips. I'll turn over the mags with the gun parts to the smith, and get his opinion on which feed best, but what are the experiences in the forum? I've also seen the "low friction" follower/spring set at Taylor Freelance, along with their +10 extensions. While TF advertises the parts to work across Colt pattern mags, is there a design that stands out for these parts as being better or worse? Thanks!
  3. Fantastic stuff, thanks ya'll! Max's recoil presentation is similar to what I've heard/been advised on for pistols, and although the body mechanics are very different with PCC, the process and results seem very similar, and I notice that he's keeping very neutral on the off-hand. Similar with Mr. Seeklander, I just need to keep crap off the gun and figure out body mechanics. A couple of parts due to the mailbox in about a week, and then I can see about getting all this mess stitched together and coated/painted, then the fun times await.
  4. I’m in the process of acquiring all the parts and associated goodies for my first PCC. It’ll be built off the CMMG RDB system, using their receiver set, bolt, and 16” barrel. I have a Faxon 13” CF hand guard for it, and have a question about hand stops/grips and general technique. I get that the PCC has some technique to learn and apply for recoil control. Is there a general preference for gripping the forearm pulling into the shoulder, or using a push/pull technique like a shotgun, or is it best to just wrap the hand around the hand guard and not worry about pushing or pulling? I almost never see vertical handgrips on any non-NFA PCC, so that feels like a clue not to use them, but I find the idea of the hand stop to build an index point potentially interesting. Any merit to any of that? Thanks!
  5. Good advice all around. Thanks!!
  6. Greetings folks, I'm getting back into the centerfire pistol game after an absence of several years. I recently picked up a Colt Delta Elite as a project gun, and would like to get a 5" non-C.O.RE. M&P with the thumb safeties as my 9mm high capacity blaster. I had a very positive experience with a 4.5" .45 M&P; I believe that the 5" 9mm will be tons of fun. I would like to get one of the newest iterations/implementations of the 5" 9mm. I know that there have been several "generations" of the gun, and I'd like to be as up to date as possible. I am aware that there's been the 9L and 5" 9 Pro. I was happy with the trigger experience of the .45 M&P that I shot back in 2011, so as long as the trigger would be up that standard, I would be happy. I'm agnostic as to frame color, and I'm also happy to consider used guns. If I went the used gun route, I would prefer a used gun have less than 5k rounds or ideally less than 1k, while still be interested in new or like-new guns. I would like to know how to read the generation markings, such that exist, so I know I'm getting the most recent one. The 5" 9mm thumb safety variant appears to be less common than some of the others. There's a local shop that I could order one from, but prices look to be in the $800+ range for that model and they don't currently have it in stock. That's fine, and that's not out of my budget, but my understanding is that I could probably get a better price by shopping around. I recently got a work award for approx. $650, and I would be amused if I could have work "pay" for the pistol with the award. Not a necessary thing, though. It's fun to buy guns at gun shows, but I'm feeling the "gotta haves" and would prefer to not wait for a gun show and still risk the possibility that I wouldn't find one. I'm hoping that some of the membership with experience shopping for the M&P might have some guidance on possible paths. I'm in Houston, TX if anyone has info that specific. I'm happy to pay shipping FFL transfer fees and buy from pawn shops/gun stores/ranges/private sellers and the auction sites. I'm really looking forward to the aftermarket support.
  7. I was recently given a blued, pre-enhanced Colt Delta Elite as a birthday present from my wife. I'd like to set it up to be suitable for bowling pin shooting, fix the known Delta Elite problems, and have it be able to shoot ammo with a wide range of power factors. I had a previous Delta in the past, and I understand that issues of bad dimensions and fitting are random and probable, and that these issues must be addressed to maximize the gun's durability, accuracy, and reliability. One of the modifications that I am interested in is a replacement, gunsmith-fit barrel. I find myself very interested in the SVI barrel/slide mechanism, consisting of the barrel, slide stop, Tri-Loc bushing, and modular breechface. Volume 2 of Mr. Patrick Sweeney's Book of the 1911 reviewed a SVI .40 S&W single stack that was inspiringly accurate. While I understand that a vast world of difference exists between the Colt Delta and a .40 SVI single stack, it seems that the SVI system can work, and that if the Delta can have be dimensionally re-baselined before fitting the SVI system, I could expect a mechanically accurate pistol. Also, I like that this system allows changing breechfaces, which seems to increase the total lifespan of the frame and slide. Are there any gunsmiths that anyone is familiar with who has worked with the SVI barrel/slide stop/bushing/breech face combination, and likes it, and would be interested in installing it?
  8. One of my buddies and I fabricated a couple of parts to mount the Krebs picatinny rail/aperture rear onto my Saiga, and I use the Krebs front sight pushed out to the muzzle. The big aperture makes it fast, at least for me. I like it a lot, as far as irons go.
  9. As funds are limited, I have to be very picky about which gun projects I want to start. A metal frame for the M&P, especially at or under $500 would get me to whip out my wallet so fast I'd probably injure myself. I've shot both polymer and steel framed (CCF) Glocks. Sign me up for the M&P!
  10. I had a .22 done up on a 6" Marvel Unit 1 paired to a STI Master frame. Lovin' it.
  11. Yeah, that's about what I figured. Oh well, it's just an excuse to save up for more guns. I brought a old Reminton Model 11 12 gauge to the match. It was fun, but I do understand why mag capacity on a shotgun helps so much. While I brought a Reminton 7600 .35 Whelen to the match, I bumped into a friend who let me borrow his AR. I can see that another rifle is in my future. My pistol is a 9mm USPF, although I just got a single-stack 1911 in .45 for Limited 10.
  12. I recently shot my first 3 gun match and had a ball doing it. I was reading the forums, and noticed this thread: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?...c=21273&hl=7615 I headed over to the IPSC site, and noticed that there is a 3 Gun Production division using Production class pistols, pump shotguns, and manually operated rifles. Reading the USPSA 3 Gun site, there was only mention of Limited, Tactical, and Open classes, with a note that "Heavy-Metal" or "He-Man" divisions were not offical yet. The guns that I've got now would work pretty decently in a Production division, but not in any others. Is there a USPSA Production 3 Gun division? I'm assuming that the answer is no, but I was hoping that I might become more informed over here.
