I finally figured out what was going on. Apparently, my mags, with the +10 extensions, even when downloaded to 38, push up on the bottom of the bolt, with too much force, slowing it enough that it doesn’t always go in to battery. The regular factory mags seem to work fine. I’m going to leave the big mags loaded for a while and see if that relaxes the springs a little.

I had the same issue with mine the first time out. Now that I’ve ran a few hundred rounds through it an loaded the mags a few times they seem to be running better. Still not good enough for me to run it at a match.

  2. I picked up mine the late last year, and mine was dirty too. I gave it a good strip, clean and lube before I ran it. I kinda thought thought the same thing, but you could tell how tight it was it only had one or two rounds through it.

  3. On my Stock II's first trip I was hitting my buddy's full size IPSC target at 135 yards 8/10 times. I couldn't believe the consistency of it at that range. With just some springs and some polishing the trigger is easily twice as good. With all the CGW goodies and some polishing, you will be amazed at the quality you can get out of a DA/SA trigger.

  4. My Stock II does the same thing. I actually like it when shooting competition and you go to slide lock. It's a little faster than having to push the slide lock lever or racking the slide again. If the slide is locked back and you are inserting a full mag why would you not want the slide to go forward and chamber another round?

  5. Check out the CCOP 1-6. I just picked one up. I can't speak about durability yet, but it's a pretty nice quality scope for the money. I've seen people say they think it comes from the same place in China that make the Vortex Strike Eagle and the Primary Arms 1-6 scopes. I picked mine up for $189 if I remember right. It has a plane dot reticle with a crosshair etched on the glass. It has capped turrets which is nice when your throwing it in a dump can. The glass is even pretty damn good. On 1x it's got a good eye box and good relief. The only bad thing I can say is the lighted reticle is barley visible in bright sunlight.

I'm going to see how loading quads goes with the stock port before I take a dremel to the first brand new shotgun I've ever bought lol

I thought the same thing. I went through a shotgun course with it and it was great, but we weren't running and gunning.

I shot my first 3gun a couple weeks ago and decided to open it up and WOW what a difference it makes. I really struggled with quads so I used load 2 during the 3 gun match so I knew I wasn't fumbling shells throughout the match. It took me about an hour and a half to two hours and am kicking myself for not doing it before. If you are at all mechanically inclined I would say go for it. You will not be able to load nearly as good with the stock opening, and mine is a new model M3K with the front of the loading port that dips down a little.

  7. Giraud Tri-way Trimmer for $98 does it all. IE11 won't let me copy and paste a link into the forum here, but if you google it, it will come up.

I'll put another vote in fir the Giraud. Works great, doesn't throw shavings all over, deburs and chamfers and is very quick to use.

  8. I would suggest to do all in slow motion and see what the problem is (my guess is too much finger tip over the bullet tip and also the mag is angled in your palm)

In any case, doing it in slow motion until all is correct and then speeding up builds muscle memory and you should be OK

^^^ This is the key. I had the same problem when i started about 8 months ago. It happened in my second match so bad that i still have a scar at the base of my thumb from where i pinched it between the mag well and mag. I had to shoot the rest of the day with a bloody hand. I learned the hard way. It happened a couple times in dry fire but i thought nothing of it until I was moving at match speed and focusing on targets and sights instead of my reload. It is definitely flawed technique like i had. Start slow and build the muscle memory before trying to speed up. Once you get the technique down you can go blazing fast...and expose other faults in your technique.

  9. I think the divisions ought to be centered around two things: Type of sights and mag capacity.

If you want a dot, you're in Open

If you want a dot but don't want to go full blown Open you have Carry Otics (if it survives the provisional period).

If you want to run a hi-cap gun but with iron sights you're in Limited

If you want to run a low-cap gun with other iron sights, then see below

I seem to recall reading a comment where somebody was espousing an idea that USPSA should combine the 3 low-cap divisions Prod, SS, and L10 (excluding REVO for the moment) into one division. Establish a max capacity of 8 rnds for major and 10 rnds for minor. SA, striker fired, DA/SA shoot heads up in that "low-cap" division. Settle on one standard for gear placement in this low-cap division, i.e. Prod rules which require everything behind the hipbone but allow DOH holsters.

It's the indian, not the bow right? But sometimes the capacity of the quiver can be a game changer on some stages/matches.

    Let's race!

I think this is a great idea. Then we would see how those Unicorns being limited to the same capacity do against SA metal guns like 1911. I think this would be a game changer in production if you could use ANY factrory gun but limiting the capacity.

  10. So on the 4th stage of my local match, after the last target which was hidden behind a wall and you had to lean to engage it, I fell forward out of the box and my gun broke the 180 by about 2 degrees and it was all over for me. The RO almost didn't want to DQ me as it was just a local match and it was barely over the 180, but i told him rules are rules and they are only there to keep everyone safe. Everybody was like dont worry about it, it happens to everybody. One of the guys even told me about how when Bob Vogul was out at the same range and got DQ'd at a major match he was working. All in all it was a good learning experience for me and it will be something that I consciously think about in my stage planning from now on.

  11. What i have found, through great advice on this site, is that if you take that extra half of a second to really establish your proper grip before breaking your first shot, you will increase your speed AND accuracy throughout the stage. Work on speed in practice and focus on proper technique in matches.

  12. I think that's happened to all of us. I'm talking a friend into going out to the next match with me. He keeps giving me all the excuses in the world as to why he can't. I finally had to tell him i have extra mags, a belt, mag holders and holster that fit his XDm and then he said he is trying to buy a car and can't afford the ammo. I reload and already load the same caliber for my comp gun so I told him that i would load up a few more rounds and supply that as well so he truly has no more excuses. I know as soon as I get him through one match he will be as hooked as I am.

I have also given up my other hobbies (still have a couple quads to sell) and don't think about anything other than dry fire, game planning and the next match.

  13. I was trying to find a red AR trigger online for my red AR theme build but I could not find one, so as an easy and cheap way, I'm thinking of painting the stock trigger, just the part that sticks out of the receiver to match all the red parts I installed.

Any suggestions on what paint I should use, preferably something I can pick up at a local store.

    Thanks

With the amount of use your trigger gets, you are going to want to use a cerakote or duracoat or the like that will wear more like a finish than a paint.

  14. I made the switch about 3 months ago, replacing my first 3 mags with Ghosts (bullet out) and keeping 2 Racers (bullets forward) at the back. I felt that the arm angle would be too awkward for the bullets out on the last two mags.

For me, the biggest advantage of the Bullets Out setup is that I can run my index finger all the way to the mag lips - something I couldn't do on the 2nd and 3rd mag change with Bullets Forward.

This is what i found helped me with BO. I can now, consistently, run my finger all the way to the mag lip/bullet nose and get a more consistent grip on each mag. Granted i've only shot one match with them BO and dry fired with them for 2 weeks, but like them a lot. Plus if you dont you can always switch back.

  15. How much will all that stuff cost vs. what a G35 or XDM 40 5.25 costs? If we're just talking about a back-up those are pretty inexpensive choices.. Personally, I don't think a XD 45 Service will make much of a limited gun no matter how it was dressed up..

That's more or less what I was thinking. I'll bring it with me in case a catastrophic failure so I can finish the match but I don't think I'm putting any money into it.

  16. Well, I sourced a .40 high cap. I'm picking it up tomorrow & need a holster for it.

    What are my options?

Blade-tech has a DOS competition holster specifically for the RIA hi-cap with full length dust cover.

    Is that legal for Limited?

Do you have any experience with it? Will it stay put in a 3 gun stage where you've got to sprint around from spot to spot?

I have one of these for my 45 and it is a nice holster with good retention. I did have to reshape mine a little bit for my double stack to fit it right. I think they are actually molded of the single stack so it was hitting the body around the mag release so it would not seat deep enough for the trigger guard to fit into the molded part for the guard. A heat gun for a few seconds and it is perfect. Now the retention is good enough to let me hold the holster upside down with the gun fully loaded without falling out. It should be g2g for 3 gun.
