  1. rhett45acp, I couldn't agree more. I am also waiting with anticipation for the Para mags from MBX. I have corresponded with the folks at MBX and they are very knowledgable, helpful, and honest IMHO. This really has me wondering what is going on?
  2. BTW - my data was on a Daniel Defense - 16" with a 1 in 8 twist. Sorry I didn't include that with the data.
  3. Thanks much for the feedback. I am going to crono some more test loads rover the next couple of days. I've got my base plate, with a little graphite to help, very tight but still moving well. Will load again soon (after test data is logged) to see how this works out once I get to test out my new 147 gr Winchester FMJ. I had very good results with 110 gr and 125 gr Nossler projectiles using H110 (not looking to go subsonic any time soon). I am trying a bit slower powder for the 147 gr. bullet. I am looking to make a good accuracy (under 100 yard) cost effective, paper punch load with the slower powder and bulk FMJ Win bullets. I will post my data once I feel confident of my results. I have to test this 4227, as I was able to get a good supply of the powder, to see if my inclination for a bit slower powder with the heavy bullets will prove to be a good cost effective range load, paper punch, sub MOA round. I know I can get this with the Nossler 110 and 125 but they are high $$ rounds.
  4. I found the post below in another area under "300 blackout". I think this may be my problem. I am using the AK funnel and was concerned I did not have it adjusted correctly. I am seeing powder spillage as well, likely all part of the same problem. Yes some of the problem is simply the 300 blackout is a shorter case and if you do not have the case base plate screwed down sufficiently tight onto the 550B base the case will wiggle on its way up to the powder funnel. Just make sure there is very little play in your plate, not to the point of making rotating the plate overly difficult but make it firm. Allow almost no play as the case heads up to the drop funnel and you will be okay. I also did machene the funnel a little to allow a better fit to the system but I think the trick was really to make sure the plate is tight. You do need the AK funnel Good luck I do love the blackout it just requires a little fiddling around to get it seated firmly in the 550B but once done no issues Smokey
  5. Love the 300 Blk. As stated, with the right ammo, you can easly achieve 30-30 performance. I suspect there are more 30-30 whitetail kills, than 243, 270, 308, and 30-06 combined. For me, it's really because I've had my 30-30 for a very long time, and it works for dense woods, short range hunting. At 200 yd. and under, with the Blk under the right ammo, it will go down. I have a 3x9 scope for hunting and a Meprolight for PD. A new upper would serve you well and make change out easy. As mentioned earlier, be very careful of feeding the right ammo. I use very distinct mags. Get a 5 or 10 round mag for hunting with the 300 and mark it with a distinct color. I like the 125 gr, for hunting (Sierra and Nosler both make a good 125 gr. bullet).
  6. I am having trouble getting IMR 4227 to meter repeatably with my 550 with 300 Blk loads. Any thoughts? I've tried readjusting the powder die and funnel but am still seeing much more variation than with my pistol loads. I am going back over my set up, but I am getting a plus/minus of 0.2 gr. This is my first rifle load on the 550, I normally do rifle loads on my T7 and just work with pistol loads on the 550. But with the addition of the 300 Blk, I would like to pick the pace up a bit.
  7. I also use 147/150 gr. FMJ for my paper 300 Blk loads. I got a chance to crono my 150 loads this past weekend. This is what I used, which should be well in "safe" zones from books and published data. I am looking to try a bit hotter when I get out next weekend. 150 Hornady SST - IMR 4227 @ 16.8 gr. Data from 10 shot group - Hi -1814; Low -1792; Avg - 1799; Ex Sp - 22; StDev - 8 Shot well, cycled well, good groups at 100 yd., no signs of pressure. I hope 4227 with bulk 150 gr will be my standard paper load as the 147/150 gr bullets can be found in bulk at good prices. I suspect this is quite conservative and have made some 10 round trials moving up to 18.4 in increments. Will publish data when I've had a chance to crono. FYI - I'm using H110 for my 110 gr and 125 gr loads with very good results. I believe, testing will prove it out, that the 4227 is better for the 150 gr. loads. I tried IMR 4198 with the 150 gr bullets and was not impressed so far. Maybe this is better for heavy loads going subsonic, but that's not for me.
