Fairly similar to everyone else on here, match starts at 10am and finishes around 3pm. If you end up being the last squad to shoot, however, it may run until 4pm. Which happened to be the case at last weeks match. It does make for a long day but it's worth it.

If I picked up a gun that felt that good, I'd mostly likely try to get the exact same setup and wouldn't look back. Luckily for me and my bank account, I haven't held a custom infinity just yet.

I've got the STI Spartan which is my single stack division gun. The Trojan does seem to be nicer in quality. Although I have a Para as well, I'd go with the Trojan.

+1 for the Dan Wesson in 9mm, both guns are hard to beat though.

A little late to the party on Glock's part but I have no doubt they'll still sell a lot this year. I'll most likely contribute to that.

That is one nice looking gun! If I seen that at my FFL I'd be very tempted to take it home.

I finally revieved my new wolff recoil spring in and loaded up some rounds but haven't got to shoot since there is a foot of snow outside. I increased the taper crimp a bit as well. I really hope this helps the issue. Haven't messed with my magazines as of yet but that is my next step in the process.

That's something I haven't shared, when I manually cycle rounds it will extract and feed each round perfectly. Only when I'm actually shooting the gun will it have failures to chamber. That's what got me thinking it may be a spring issue but hopefully this will shine some more light on the situation. Thank you

Thanks for the tips, disassembled the slide and cleaned breech face and polished up the extractor for the case rim to slide up easier, hopefully. I'll be trying different crimp levels in small increments as well as different oals's again. Checking the measurements on my mags as we speak. Won't have a match until March so I won't be able to discuss the issue with fellow shooters, getting good information from you guys though.

I'm not against trying to go shorter or adding more of a crimp. I just don't want to go too short and cause problems. What's your diameter of the crimp your using? And specific bullet diameter? Thank you.

If it did come to modifying/replacing the extractor or ejector is that something I should attempt on my own or send it? I've read about it some but reading and doing are not the same. Just ordered some Wolff springs, 10, 11, and 12 pounds just to play with since I am trying to go major, but for now I just want the thing to function!

Thank you guys for all the information! I'll see if I can post some pictures later on today to see if a visual would be helpful. I've been loading 124gr Hornady FMJ-RN to 1.250 as the starting point and once I experienced feeding issues I started to play with the OAL. I plunk tested the chamber and I went up to 1.275 and the round still spun freely with full support of the casing, but didn't want to go higher because 1.280 is the recommended max for .38 super. And for what it's worth I have a Schuemann Ultimatch barrel. The ramp/chamber corner doesn't seem to be abnormally sharp or angled to effect feeding but I'll let someone more experienced than I make that determination. Yes Bamboo, that is the issue I'm having and thank you for the variable listing. I'll have to measure the feed lips for sure and try that out. Just trying to get a list going to weed possibilities out. So far I'll be looking at recoil spring, ejector, extractor, ramp/chambering, and magazine feeds lips. Thanks again, great info guys.

Hello everyone, I have purchased a .38 supercomp open gun and it is failing to chamber completely. Every couple of rounds will cycle and chamber every time but others will get caught right at the chamber roof during the tip-over point. I'm fairly new to reloading and I've tried various bullet lengths from 1.240-1.270 and it all continues to result the same. I'm hoping it's just a spring strength issue. Any experience with this out there? Thanks for your help, Lucas B.

The rig that came with gun was for a right handed shooter, so I think he just used his trigger finger for the mag release to make sure it was out of the trigger guard. I was afraid it would get in the way but I kinda like the safety of it. It's going to take some getting used to for sure. I'll have to find a competent gunsmith to ask about that racker since clearing malfunctions or racking the slide in general is ackward.

That's the only thing I don't like about it, not having a slide racker. The back of the slide is milled way forward so I'm not sure if I could mount one on it. Not positive if anyone can see that in the photo or not.

I'm relieved to hear others have been in the same circumstance as mine and have had good luck. I wasn't even thinking about it being an outdated model or updating it when I bought it until others said so on here. But for the deal and being my first open gun I'm pretty excited to use the heck out of it. Haha, pretty or not, we'll have fun with it.

Thanks for the idea, I appreciate it! When I talked to the dealer he said he couldn't give out the previous owners name or number for privacy purposes, which I hadn't thought of at the time. So I wasn't able to get much information about the gun from the actual user. It bugs me I don't know builder, round count, etc. about the gun, figure I'll just shoot the heck out of it until the accuracy gets bad enough then replace the barrel.

My mistake, should have read the regulations more thoroughly.

Thanks guys, I'm glad for all the positive feedback. Since several people mentioned 115gr bullets i'm going to have to pick some up for sure, but won't I need at least 120gr to make major? I plan to start with this one and once I get a little better, and the funds, I'd love to invest in that new STI DVC that just came out, that's a sweet looking gun.

Since everything looked pretty solid I went ahead and jumped on the deal. Tore it down and did a detailed search for any flaws and couldn't find a thing wrong. So I put several of the rounds that came with the gun through it and it functioned awesome. Now off to experiment with my own loads. Thinking about starting out at a 124gr Hornady, 9.7 grains of AA#7(and work up), Starline .38 super comp brass, and CCI small rifle primers since I already have these components on hand.

I'll keep all the above in mind. Thanks for the load recommendations CocoBolo! That's good news for me since I already have a few pounds of AA#7. I've seen some of your loads on another forum topic and wrote them down for consideration. I definately want to get a round count, but how many is to much?

You all have officially talked me into it... I figure for my first open gun it'll be good to get my feet wet at least. Next is finding a recipe it likes, but I shouldn't have trouble with all the info on this site. Thanks again for the input.
