I've found Tripp work well also metalform and even the brownells 10rd 1911 mags they look identical to the metalform only black coated.

Actually it's called coolant and that has nothing to do with the slides on the machine. a lathe has a bed on which the saddle slides it uses oil not grease the cross slide sit on top of the saddle uses oil not grease. That is the easiest way to put it. I know why bearings have grease and why they are bathed in oil. I'm not here to argue just pointing out that saying grease is for parts that slide is not in fact totally true in a lot of places.
-
Actually if it slides grease if it rotates oil doesn't really hold up that great. In a machine shop every lathe, boring, milling machine, slides you don't grease the slides you oil them. Wheel bearings rotate you grease them diffs rotate you oil them. A mobile crane extending the boom slides and you grease the contact points. So there are different variables that come into it. As long as it has a suitable lube there is no problem. If grease works then fine but oil works just as good in this application.

Honestly a gun built with quality parts shouldn't have any drama having the slide dropped on a empty chamber. You see it in the vid but I bet it's not all the time, personally I tried slide glide on my CZ and it was good but on my edge that is tight it slowed the slide down for me.

I'm pretty sure it's oil

1911 recoil spring and mainspring weights
DaveFromAus replied to Nemesis Lead's topic in 1911-style Pistols
What PF are you using in the 9mm? -
What's required to fit the svi trigger to the STI bow? Wanting to change my 2011 so I can change the profile and find the best. Did you have to open the trigger guard as the SVI are wider? No good smiths in WA so bit of a pita. Thank you

Where did you get the mags from Dan? -
Pity it doesn't have windage adjustment. Looks like a nice addition you have

Recoil spring with heavier bullet but same powder
DaveFromAus replied to DaveFromAus's topic in 9mm/38 Caliber
The 100s lock the slide back with weak hand so should be enough. Can't load them long enough here is a pic of the SWC used its a lube groove. The feed problem with them is definitely mag related I got it close but not 100% like the 115s. All I wanted to know is if the power factor would increase enough to warrant a heavier Spring. I'll order one and see how it goes. -

Nobody local in Aus has a 7lb I can find. The 6 were ordered from the US. -
Recoil spring with heavier bullet but same powder
DaveFromAus replied to DaveFromAus's topic in 9mm/38 Caliber
The powder is a medium fast burn with 2.8 it is all clean no left over powder. The 100gn were hitting the feed ramp just below the chamber on the Swc edge. I tuned the mags but then the would drive into the top of the chamber. OAL was 1.065 that's as long as can go as they have a lube groove. The 115 I have no feed issues OAL is 1.115 just get the odd 5-6 spent case with a small dent in the middle of the case. My PF is on the higher side a lot run down at 84000. The matches we shoot are more bullseye at 50yrds and 25yrds. My gun is a STI edge I can feel the difference in power between the 2 weights just not sure if using the 6lb Spring will pound anything. I also shoot service restricted which has a PF of 120 but have mine at 125 to make sure it's good all yr round. Accuracy at 50yrd is 2.5" of a range bag on a proper rest prob be less. Thanks -
Hi guys I shoot a minor PF for WA1500 used 100gn SWC and 2.8gn of AS50. To many jams with the SWC in my 2011 edge so I moved up to 115gn conical it is seated .050 less than the Swc as it has a shorter base. I used a 6lb recoil for the 100gn to get no feed issues, I'm still running the 6 with the 115gn would this be a problem? PF on the 100gn was only 95000 haven't been able to test the 115 just don't want to beat the gun. Takes a couple weeks to get a 7lb Spring so just thinking. Not having any problems 100%reliable and accurate. Cheers

I got the Dawson Tool less for my bull barrel edge it had a small champher on the end but I needed to grind it down more so it wasn't hitting the feet part of the rod. Other than that it came with the reverse plug to suit . Can someone show me there tooless guide rod out of the DVC compressed from field strip just want to know if my Spring is a bit long when I put a shock buff on my travel just gets past the slide stop not sure if normal or not. Thanks

Is Weaponshield really that much better than FP-10
DaveFromAus replied to JJP161's topic in 1911-style Pistols
One thing Ive noticed using it makes cleaning after very easy. Seems to stay put better than others I've tried but again oil will work just as good for lube.- 35 replies

Grand Power X-Calibur: range reports
DaveFromAus replied to NicVerAZ's topic in "Other" & Pistol Comparisons
Hi guys was looking at a block for my lefty son but came across this pistol. Has the mk2 got better rear sights? Also can you run recoil springs from other pistols? We use a low PF so if you can use say a 1911 or CZ style Spring I can tune it to suit. How accurate would it be at 50yrds? Thanks -
How accurate are the 17L? Looking for a light pistol for my young bloke we shoot at 50yrds can they achieve a 4-6" group of a rest? He's also a lefty so has trouble with 1911 and the slide lock has to use his trigger finger even I have trouble, how is the lock on the glocks? I reload so can adjust for accuracy with loads. Are the stock sights adjustable? I've searched google but not much info for the 17L Thanks

2011 mag not locking into mag catch
DaveFromAus replied to DaveFromAus's topic in 1911-style Pistols

Hi guys have a new mag that won't lock into the catch unless I give it a good slap on the bottom. Was told to tune it to suit but not sure where to file or change. If I open the groove in the mag won't that make it easier for the mag to ride up high? Is there any other spot on the mag that maybe preventing it going in to lock? Happens loaded or empty. Thank you
