  1. My wife and I ran into the same problem. Two dogs - a Cocker Spanial and a Gordon Setter. We wound up purchasing a motorhome. We have found the trip begins with the start of the engine. We enjoy the trip going too, and coming from, the shoot much more now. So do the dogs. Much more room for them to move around and relax. With the added advantage of being able to sleep in your own bed, use your own bathroom, eat in your own restaurant, and stop to rest whenever you wish. Plus you have room to bring as much gear and ammo as you need, plus room for extras if you wish. If we can't park at the Range, or need to travel while at the shoot (like RM3G) we just rent a car when we get there. Here is Ruckus with one of our equine babies - he is my jogging buddy. "Gizmo" is the Cocker.

    NEW TOY

I am amazed at the attention to detail. Undercut grip at the trigger guard, holes in the trigger, diamond on the grip w/hex head grip screw, memory bump on the grip safety, dovetail to the rear sight, and she even has a serial number. Awesome
  3. Nordic Components makes the extention. When ordered, you will also get the spring for it. While ordering the extention, I also advise getting their new follower for the FN/Winchester shotgun. I think they can be obtained through several of the dealers that frequent the forum, or from Nordic themselves. Or better yet, come to a 3-gun shoot that has Nordic as one of the sponsors, they normally have things like that for sale in the vendor tent.
  4. Not meaning to take away from the debate, but a quick question. If you have this on your comp, does it hurt anything to just keep shooting it, or is it a must that it be removed? Just curious.
  5. Getting ready for the High Plains Shotgun Challenge. Does anyone know of a good place (cheapest) to get a case of Wolf slugs and a case 00 Buck. Midway is out of the slugs at $179.00/case, but 00 Buck is in stock at about the same price. Has anyone used the buckshot from Wolf? I have tried the slugs and really liked them, but never the buckshot.
  6. Just a quick photo for those who may be interested. Not much of a photographer, sorry.
  7. All I use is cinched mags. Even the Sudden Death 45 rd. mags are cinched. The only mag I don't have cinched is the Tripp 52 rd mag. Just have your first mag as the one on the right. If for some reason a round does walk on the spare cinched mag, you can see it right away as you do your reload. Just angle the bottom of the mag forward and catch the tip of the bullet in the mag well and rotate the mag back verticle again and the round will be pushed right back into the mag as you load. Or better yet, use the Rolling Thunder comp and a lightened carrier and the rounds seem to stop walking on the spare mag. RM3G (and maybe other matches) now require the use of a single mag when shooting prone. Cinched mags are a no-no when prone (if you have both mags level at the bottom anyway).
  8. Benny, Maybe we will see you at the High Plains Shotgun Challenge.
  9. Best I could do guys. Sorry. Trust me - It is awesome!
  10. Sorry, I am trying. Too old for this crap!
  11. My son works for DPMS, and I needed (wanted) a new 3-gun rifle for 3-gun competition. I wanted a DPMS rifle because of how much they support our sport, I also wanted to see how good my son was at doing his job. 18" barrel, JP Trigger - gas block - lightened carrier, Rolling Thunder Compensator, Erigo grip, Magpul M93 stock, and TA-11. Weight is 8.5 lbs. w/optic mounted. Good handling weapon that is tight and well built. I was allowed to assist a little in the building of this rifle. I must say, I was shocked at the amount of work that goes into a well built rifle like this. Gives me a whole new appreciation for the work gunsmiths do on our weapons. I am very impressed and happy with this rifle, and consider it a work of art. In the future, any rifles that I might need will come from either JP Enterprises, Triangle Shooting Sports, or DPMS - hand build by Tyler Payne of course .
  12. Just got my new rifle built last night. 8.55 lbs. 18" barrel, Carbon Tube, Magpul M93 stock (heavy but nice), Rolling Thunder comp., TA-11 mounted. Rifle built by my son Tyler at DPMS. Very nice rifle.
  13. DMAC If drifting the sight doesn't work, try some different slugs brands. You may notice a big difference in slug impact. I shot Federal "Tru-ball" low recoil through my FN SLP last fall and was able to hit 100 yrd. targets without trouble.
  14. For my new build I am going with an 18" Med. barrel, w/carbon fiber forearm. I tried a rifle of the same weight that had the PRS stock on it, but it felt a little heavy in the back end. So I thought the UBR would be a nice to try weight wise. I shot a course of fire last year that was weak hand. I was using the ACE skeleton stock (which I really like), but I found it was a tad too long when shooting weakhand. Then at RM3G last year, I found that it would have been nice to have an adjustable stock for some of the prone shooting. For an adjustable stock, I need to make sure the cheek weld doesn't change when the stock moves through its adjustment. I had originally wanted the Magpul M93 (I think that is the model number) but they don't make them anymore. The UBR looks like it should fit the bill.
  15. I have both the Chevron and the Donut. Donut wins for me, mainly for the reasons stated by Kurtm in an earlier post. I subconciously wasted too much time trying to get the perfect sight picture with the Chevron. Sighting in the TA-11 was simple. I started with a target at 50 yrds. sight it in for center of donut at that range. Then re-check zero for center of donut at 200 yrds. Using 55 grn bullets at about 3100 fps you should be set with top of the donut is 100, center 200, bottom 300, then the BDC lines should be on after that. Just don't expect to shoot for real small groups with this reticle. The aiming point is just not defined enough. That isn't what this scope is designed for. When you purchase the scope you will also need to purchase a flat top mount if it is to be mounted to a flat top rifle. The factory mount puts the TA-11 at the perfect height for me.
  16. I like the idea of this stage. Leaves lots of options for the shooters. Is there a penalty for going over Par, or the shots after Par just don't count. I like the idea of knowing your limitations at this type of match. I am assuming there will be shots with buckshot or birdshot at shoot targets partially covered by no-shoot targets. Tyler and I are trying to work it out to make it to this match. If we were able to get down a day or so early, is there an open bay at the range to run a few shotgun drills? Hard to get out and do any practice or training when it is so cold out. Five inches of snow falling as I type this.
  17. I wanted to shoot in the "Senior" division this year, now with the date change I won't be 50 until two days after its over. Oh well.
  18. Trapr You mean like in Golf (which I don't do for whatever reason) when you can T-off from the little hill that is closer than the big boy hill?
  19. Anyone using one of these. If so, Pros and cons please. I am looking for a collapsable stock that will lock up solid.
  20. Erik I see the FN USA web site advertises the FN SLP Tactical and it has the pistol grip stock. I am guessing the stock will be for sale soon. I have also heard of people taking the 1100 pistol grip stock and fitting it to the Winchester Practical (same gun as the FN SLP MK1) by using a dremel to do some grinding. I would like to find out if this works also. I have really gotten to like the FN shotgun and the pistol grip would be nice.
  21. Yep, just flip that sucker over with the loading port facing straight up. Index finger of the left hand, push in on the shell catch and remove shells from the loading port one at a time. Just a note: The stronger the mag spring the more velocity the shells have when they come out of the mag tube.
  22. SD 10 - 12 seconds is a good starting point. Your times will decrease with more practice. Then when you get good, try loading on the move without looking at the loading port. If you are dry-firing at home, just hi-step in place while trying to load. I tried that once for whatever reason and found it really made it much more difficult than just standing in place. For the most part, the fastest I can do four from beep to last shot is 3.88. That is - from low ready, at the beep shoot one, load four while walking 6 feet, then shoot one. If you can get a reliable reloading average of 1 round per second, you won't be far behind the top shooters when the course of fire is done. That is as long as you don't miss a target, fumble a reload, or have any other brain farts that seem to come up during a course of fire that has people watching and a clock running. If you really want a challenge and increase your skills, get a 20 ga. and shoot it. Your 4 rd. holders will hold 5 rds of 20 ga.. Get good at grabbing five of those little buggers at a time and load them, your fingers will later find the 12 ga. rounds to be a breeze to handle.
  23. kurtm My ADHD wouldn't allow me to sit still long enough to read (and understand) your entire post. If you like it, I vote yes!
  24. Reloading is really where it is at when it comes to 3-gun shotgunning. BUT - there is a reason that the top shooters in Tactical are shooting the Benelli M1 or M2. Bullet proof reliability is the main reason. I have both the Benelli M1, the Benelli M2 (20 ga.), and an FN SLP MK1 and I use the FN in competition now, I also have an 1100 that I borrow to new shooters. The FN has been as reliable as the Benelli but with the recoil of the 1100 gas system. It also points very well for me. As for the pump vs semi-auto debate. A good pump guy will keep up with an average semi-auto shooter in competition. Put a good semi-auto shooter against a good pump shooter and you will start to see the semi-auto pull away. Basically - put two shooters of the same skill level on each weapon, the semi-auto will slowly pull away. That is until you start being forced to shoot in compromising positions (like prone, or from around a barricade, or from crouching under a low barricade) then even an average semi-auto shooter will pull away from a good pump shooter. YMMV
  25. Dang! gotm4, I really like the texture work on your gun. Did the smith texture it with an iron or is it tape that was applied. I can't tell by the photo's.
