  1. The real question is do you want us to give you permission to buy the 2011? I say this tong and cheek but there is some truth to the question. Lets face it, the gun is the tool, the shooter is the skill. You can become the best shooter in the country if you are good enough and as much as I hate to admit, the gun is again, just the thing that goes bang to make you look and sound good. That said.... I have (4) 2011's so far and really enjoy looking at the gun porn on some of the build threads... So, yup you need that one you are looking at... Makes you shoot better, is a great investment, gives you respect, will help you wake up in the morning and have a perfect day, but most importantly, it will make you feel great to own it. That hopefully covers it for you!
  2. When I first picked up my Ltd P-40 I received a mag with it that worked great but needed more for obvious reasons. So I tried numerous other options from "old" SVI, STI and aftermarket replacements. Most worked OK but I was still having intermittent issues.... When the MBX became available thought I would try them as well, since I already tried everything else... Let me give you some sound advise.... Buy the MBX, don't waste your time with the rest. THEY WORK and the gun runs like a sewing machine. You will spend a few more dollars up front, but it is well worth the money and likely will cost less in the long run....
  3. Same here on the cleaning, however my lube oil has a bit of a twist. I use full synthetic boat drive oil. (Bravo Shop, NEO Synthetic) It has the higher viscosity to run in extreme heat and water repellent qualities should the gun get in a moisture situation when shooting. https://bravoshop.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=932

    Loud Bikes

Another fan of "Loud Pipes Save Lives". It is about the tone though, not the decibel. I prefer the sound of the low thump of the twin any day over the mosquito sound of the Sport Bike. I would think that is what the original poster to the other thread was talking about... Other wise it is just UN- American!
  5. Couple of weeks ago I received a call from our Regional ATF to very my recent purchases.(5 guns and 7K Rounds of ammunition all with a 45 day period) The whole conversation was very brief and professional. First question was: Why the purchases? I answered: I shoot USPSA etc, and I want to try 3 gun this year, so I was getting ready for upcoming season. She wished me good luck and that was it. I told my local FFL about it (where I received the majority of the guns when shipped) and he stated it was most likely the ammunition that through up the red flag rather than the guns. I buy from Freedom Munitions and had them shipped to me direct. Bottom line; yea, the Feds appear to be watching. But when the call you it seems to be no big deal just vetting. On a side note, I purchased another gun last weekend at a show and the on line check was just as fast as my local dealer from his shop. It was instantaneous.
  6. We live in a part of the country where most everyone chips in and helps, to the point where we take turns pasting because there is too many people down range at one time. I guess we are lucky. That being said, we ALL have the few that come there to socialize more than work. Too me, I have just accepted it and not let it bother me. I have enough of my own issues to worry about rather than what some one else is doing or not doing. Unless you are seriously hard pressed to get the job done, move on in my opinion, it is easier to go through life relaxed than looking for every stress point. maybe this should be posted in the Zen section.
  7. Went and "heated up the gun again today" It took longer before it started to FTE. 6th Magazine today. Getting better. Thank you for the help, It is reassuring when you have others experiences to help you through a rough start!
  8. I just bought a STI Apeiro, took delivery this week. I too am having the same issue. I am running Freedom Munitions reloads. 40/165. For me, it is happening after the 2nd or 3rd magazine ran through it and then about every 5-6 rounds after that? I was wondering if the heating up of the gun has anything to do with it? Is this something I should contact STI about? This is my 1st STI and realize there is a learning curve. But It can certainly be frustrating when trying to find that "normal" point.
  9. Purchased mine from the Attic in ND, made it to my FFL, yesterday, on way to pick it up now.... Anticipation...... (the song in my head) Or is it just the voices...
  10. I am responding to this in general terms. Not specifically for just shooting. 1) You have to be the "type" of person a sponsor would like to represent their brand. Not necessarily do you have to be the best in the field, but you must be a good salesman on their behalf. Promoting their product in the best light. 2) you have to present your sponsors professionally. ie: attitude, cromroderie, product placement, and be willing to be available for them when they need you. 3) You need to have the "look" they are wanting to present their product. Clean kept (Personal hygiene) is many times one of the most important things. I would like to say being a "pretty person" does not matter, but in all reality, they will always have a step up on the rest of us. Being the gender or race they are trying to reach will also be a plus. This is a 24/7 position so if you like to celebrate after a match or event, remember... You still represent everyone that is supporting you. 4) Be able to give the sponsor you are soliciting a "business plan" of what your goals are, How you can present their product in the best light and basically what you can do for them now and in the future. There is many more things you will need to do, be realistic in your goals and needs from the sponsor and realize, you need them way more than they need you. And always remember, getting the sponsor is ALWAYS easier than keeping them at renewal time.
  11. I contacted the seller direct and made contact with their buyer direct. He was very nice to talk to and told me the history on the guns and what they had done with them since they were purchased for resale. He sent me pictures of the exact gun I would be purchasing. It had a stippled grip, showed holster wear and some dis-coloration. Overall the gun looked to be in good condition but cosmetically I expected it to look better. He also told me, he would replace the springs and sites in the gun right away. But stated; they do shoot as good as you would expect them to. Like I said he was helpful and didn't hide anything when I asked my questions. So if you buy the gun, you will get what you expect when you receive it... Honestly I am still on the fence. I look at a gun that is 15+years old, regardless of the quality when built, it is still that old I still wonder if today's technology would trump the technology from then??? I understand a "new" SVI is is at least double the price and obviously the top of the line today. But is the gun we are questioning about here, that good in today's standards compared to a new STI? ie: Eagle or Edge. Because you are at the same price point when you add in the upgrades needed on the older gun. Even through Dawson with a couple upgrades were only really talking a hundred dollars or so difference for either STI? I have heard a few people state this is a great gun to get started in 2011 chassis? But I already have the Para Pro Custom which runs and works great,(For 1/2 the cost of these) so for me, I want this to be a true stepping stone to the next level of gun. So many decisions......
  12. This is my hobby, and my hobby makes me happy. I want to keep it that way. So I am a bit of a prude when it comes to inclimate weather. ie: I prefer comfortable, not crappy... I want a good experience, and look forward to going, not feel like it is a chore. I support those that have the passion and applaud them for their persistence. They are the ones that teach us hobbiests how to be better. Because if you have the passion, you will put in the time to be the best of the best!
  13. I bought mine from Cheaper than Dirt, I haven't checked recently but they had a number of choices to pick from few months ago.
  14. You are correct.... My bad, Mine is the Pro Custom: http://para-usa.com/2013/firearms/competition/custom1445.php. Anyhow... The point I was trying to make is, MSRP for my gun was $1449, The actual purchase price was 1175, minus the rebate. I purchased the gun back in April, I am sure the prices have become even better now. Thanks for pointing out my mistake. Always good to know there is someone looking out for the specifics...
  15. Another option is PARA. They currently have a $100 rebate, and this comes off the final price you purchase the pistol for, not the MSRP. I have found almost every dealer I have been to that carries the line is quite negotiable on price. When I purchased my Pro Comp Custom 14-45 I was able to negotiate the price down to $1175, then subtract off another $100 on the rebate. (the rebate to 3 months to get back) Look at the line, there is some nice entry-mid level guns available. http://www.para-usa.com/2013/index.php
  16. I agree, the "shooting resort" is our focus. Within 2 hours of our facility, there is a number of very good ranges, Green Valley, Rolla, Jeff City, etc. I feel we need to co-exist with the other ranges, Not expefct to "take them over". I think education and training for shooting sports will be the key to our success. The store area, can hold seminars on guns, reloading, and numerous shooting related topics as well. (get in reps from the manufacturers to hold the seminars). Class rooms, then using the range to practice what they learn. I know when I was/am learning to compete, I had a million questions and would liked to have had this type of venue to learn, thus the idea... It seems most every gun store or range I go into they are preaching just self defense, not sports. I also think by promoting more of the sports side, getting good press would go a long way in showing the other side of shooting, not just the doom and gloom.
  17. Money in no object when dreaming, planning and looking for information. BUT it means EVERYTHING when you actually sit down and work out the logistics and go to actual plan. So getting the most bang for the buck in set up, being able to structure it to not operate at a loss, and be able to sleep at night is the bottom line. Unfortunately $1M is not allot of money any more... At this point, we have no actual budget, that is why it is called the "dream stage". I know where we are on the realestate side, basic dirt work, building and paving costs. But until we have the list of what we actually want to incorporate into the project, "real numbers" are just a pie in the sky. We only have approx 100 acres to work with, so our entire plan must fit with in those parameters. The property we are looking at is in a resort area, so the spouse/family entertainment is covered, Housing in our area is not a problem, this also goes with restaurants and bars. Luckily, Our community leaders that I have spoken with are also open to the idea when I presented it as an "idea". This is a BIG Plus. Getting back on track: What are the things people are looking for that is a combination between all the best ranges. That is what I would like to incorporate into our plan.
  18. I wish it could be done for a million $$$. Think that is a bit low... But luckily, we have a friendly banker/partner... (thus the need to have the TOTAL plan laid out etc.) Like I said, we are looking to be the best of the best... In doing so, this should help us in the long term to secure National/World competitions, training on a National Level (worth traveling to to train) as well as local/state organizations that would like to train. a/k/a a shooting resort so to speak... Media coverage, TV, etc will also be solicited and encouraged. Lofty goals... The ideas we have so far are great, but I think specifics on how things would/could be laid out is also important. ie: How many bays would be used, best size? Length for 3 gun that works best.etc... Trap/skeet is not a large part of our plan right now, we have a HUGE park already in our area that handles National and State events. I do see an area for this, but not a main stay of the planned facility.
  19. Can you clarify what you mean by a 360 house? Also I am confused on the 7 shape. I am trying to visualize how you would set up a course without breaking the 180 safety angle. I like the idea, just trying to visualize how it could be set up.
  20. I am in the beginning stages. There is a ton of approvals, that would be needed before anything broke ground. I want to be able to present a total plan when we start presenting for our approvals. Nothing happens quickly. So at this point, there is no specific date for breaking ground, let alone opening. That is why I am looking for the best of the best ideas. We have an opportunity to start with a clean slate, design a project from the very beginning. My goal is to have a state of the art, well designed shooting sports complex that will be the gold standard for years to come. I realize it is a high bar, but when you have hundreds/thousands of people with the same dedicated hobby, we should be able to come up with some killer new innovations.
  21. Do you think in the "rental area" a Go Pro or drone's would be used? Another thought I had was have small cabins available to rent for people that come into train or compete. The lodge area would have a small kitchen and/or during events or training times have it catered.
  22. I am considering/have an opportunity to build a shooting range from scratch. The lay out is approx 100 acres of rolling hills but also has a large area that is level and would work well for a lodge/retail store that could be expanded to include class rooms and a sales area.(an indoor range for the cooler months is already in the plan) My question? If you had the best of all worlds, what would be on your wish list for a range. Specifics are appreciated. My entire idea is based around shooting sports. Please keep this in mind with the suggestions. No idea is a bad one, and thinking outside the box is encouraged.
