Barrel, slide and re chromed. STI did the work.

I shot it last weekend and it felt fantastic, I'm not sure if it needs anything. Does brazos tweak anything with the slide or barrel?

I switched from a Howard light sport to ms a sordin with gel cups. The sound quality on the sordin is much better, they also feel better built. The best thing about the switch is the gel cups so much more comfortable.

I wrote Cryptic Coatings today as I really like their "Mystic Black" coating. I think that it would look great on a 1911. However their response was that they only coat the products that they sell. That's a bummer.

They already did without telling me. I called sti after it happened, explained what happened. The gunsmith at sti said it would not be covered under warranty and sent me a repair estimate. I sent the gun in to sti and 3 weeks later got the ups notification that I was getting a package from sti. I assumed they couldn't fix it and returned it but the gun was repaired and the packing sheet said "damage due to bad ammo" but they repaired it under warranty anyway. I was probably going to out of pocket it instead of signing the release my lawyer was uncomfortable with a couple of things in the release.

Sample packs would be awesome, I would buy some and put them out at matches.

Are you doing any sort of match timing or just personal?

There is no definitive proof it was the fault of the ammo. I am also the 3rd (at least) owner of the gun, so I have no clue how the gun was treated before me. I want to make it clear that I have no clue why the chamber failed, just speculation. The rep at the ammo company did misrepresent the scope of the release on the phone. My guess is he never read it. The ammo manufacturer that I was using at the time was Freedom Munitions. I was shooting 180gr hollow point, copper jacket, nickel cased, re-manufactured ammo. They did offer to cover it, I have still been purchasing and shooting there new run stuff since this happened.

I asked them last week how many pieces would be requires for a batch. They said "they will only work with manufacturers now" Calico recommended that I contact crypticcoatings.com they are a customer of Calico.

Her career is more "we go to the job" type of situation. So we have pick some areas and wait for something to pop up. She is getting licensed in TX tho in case something does.

Been looking at texas, no good long term jobs have popped up there yet for my wife.

I lived in phoenix when I was a kid in the 80's so I remember the heat! Wasn't too sure about the shooting related stuff, found a couple of ranges, trap USPSA etc.

Anyone have any thoughts about Tucson, AZ? Headed there tomorrow for an interview.

I have the off and on issue with the mucks, high instep is a bad combination with those boots.

I don't think so like I said the documentation said it was warrantee repair, i'm thinking they were just being nice. Already one of them I own a few STI's!

So another update! In an unexpected twist STI warranted the gun. I was very up front with them about what happened the STI rep that I spoke with said it would not be covered by warrantee but the gun came today looked at the invoice and its a warrantee repair. Not sure how I feel about this, it wasn't there issue.

Scary thing I didnt mention was earlier in the day when I was shooting groups with that gun and ammo I was flipping my safety glasses up to look down the spotting scope a couple of times I forgot to flip them back down. Its easy to get lazy with safety.

+1 on interest, I think this would be cool.

I've tried a few of the apps, not too successful. Ended up with a CED Pro 7000rf works really well. I use it to time bowling pin shoots and it does a pretty good job of ignoring other range noise which is something that I couldn't get dialed in too well with the apps.

Soooo the ammo MFR offered to pay for the repairs to the gun provided I sign a release that binds me from discussing it. I'm having a lawyer look it over. They feel pretty strongly that it was an issue with the brass.

Wow, pretty interesting. I shot some fm reman 40 and 45 today made sure to double check oal.

Ah thanks got it, didn't consider that a bad crimp and something in the barrel could alter the setback. Gun goes off to STI tomorrow so hopefully ill have some sort of resolution in the next few weeks.
