Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Man I am new to the 650 and this is the second time I have heard of this in about two weeks, Scary, glad all are ok and I will be wearing the PPE, Thanks
  2. I reload for a 338 Lapua AI and use exactly 100 grains of Vihtavuori N570 using Berger 300 grain OTM's, but still could fit more in there if I needed to, but again, this is the AI with the shoulders blown out. If it helps, I use a Redding T7 press and chargemaster to build my rounds. Id love to shoot it more, but the hunt for Vihtavouri N570 continues and I dont dare shoot up the powder I do have.
  3. thanks all, think Im gonna have to live with what I got, but I may give Dillon a call.
  4. Brand new to the Dillon 650 and finally got to loading 223 ammo this weekend. Just to be sure I would occasionally pull one of the charged rounds and measure the powder charge. This is my question, I ran about 5 rounds to set the charge at 23.5 grains of TAC. After I had ran about 10 rounds I checked again and was actually down to about 23.2 then another 10 rounds and after spot checking, I was back up to my target weight, then it jumped around from 23.8 down to 23.2 over the next several checks I made. Is this to be expected in a volumetric type powder dump? Is it the TAC powders physical composition not allowing as accurate measuring? Or is there something that I am missing? I used my charge master to measure charge weight, of course after calibrating it and even threw an occasional 55gr bullet on the scale to double check the charge master and all is ok. The adjustment screw on the back of the charge bar appears fully functional, in that it is snug and not able to move. The charge bar is moving the full range as shown in the directions. Suggestions/thoughts? Thanks
  5. Tag. Im hoping as well as everyone else that we have another reliable option of pistol powder. Preliminarily results make me think that I'll be grabbing some next time it presents itself.
  6. +1. Unfortunately the reviews I have read support your statement of the Vibra primes. Even those that finally did work have required some owner modifications. I just read a 5 page thread started from a gentleman from Lake Havasu that had a explosion while handling/pulling the pin on his primer tube, Grant was part of his user ID and the thread was quit scary, (he suffered moderate injuries to his hands, the photos were no longer viewable and stated he had some temp hearing loss) but it came to end without much to confirm what happened, (this was in 2010) but it appeared to be focused on static electricity being the culprit. The folks at Dillon were being quoted over and over again as being heavily involved, although Dillon theirselves never posted anything that I recall. My take away was that primer tubes should be cleaned from removal of residual chemicals occasionally using Qtips/cotton balls with rubbing alcohol, and using gloves, eye and ear protection during the handling of the tubes and primers. My point of recalling the above incident is to remind everyone of their safety equipment. Lastly, make certain that you have a fire extinguisher in close proximity of your bench. Stay safe all and I am leaning towards a RF100 as well. Or get 20 vibra primes. You will need that many to find one that actually works.
  7. Shooter is what I was trained on, I primarily hunt and really like the on the fly adjustments once I get to the solution page. I use an Iphone5 and it works flawlessly and relatively quick. I have my 6BR, 300 Win Mag and my 338 Lapua AI along each of their respective ammunitions stored. I could even add different loads for each of the guns and easily toggle between all of them. Currently I have one load for each of the guns. I believe it was $10 for a one time purchase.
  8. spent some time on the phone with me to, I felt like he cared that he could help me with my questions!
  9. thinking the same think, pretty impressive!
  10. Have 4 NF scopes. First if your using it for long range and dialing up, make certain you have the high speed turrets and zero stop. Cant stress enough how important the zero stop is during a situation when a shot presents itself and the chaos around such an event and then remembering if you did or did not zero the scope back out. I kinda get amused that a lot of people make statements about this scope and that scope, but "usually" they have not looked thru a scope at the hours that most shots present theirselves, dawn and dusk. Light gathering capabilities! NF has those qualities that one couldn't see until you look thru one during lowlight conditions. I just finished a 338 AI build and have the NF ATACR on it with 30 MOA rail, but more importantly is that the ATACR has a 34mm tube, and let me tell you this scope finds that last bit of light out there, my other NF are 30mm tubes and are impressive, but not quit the standard of the ATACR. Lastly, and simply put, resale of a NF is always present, always.
  11. Karen at Hart Barrel was fantastic to work with. NO dog in this fight but she cares and will take the time to talk about the things that I had questions on, even followed up on a issue she didn't know the immediate answer to. Bought 7 separate barrels and each of the time frames quoted were adhered to.
  12. +1, used to have a hookup.
  13. I don't need one, really I don't. Very nice, and I still don't need one
  14. Thanks all, I will sure be looking for help:)
  15. Good evening all. Working my way thru some of my bucket list things, and have spent the last 2 years with the long range game and feel I've have a pretty thorough understanding of it and thought it is now time to get the Dillon 650 up and running. Embarrassed to say, the press is nearing a year old and I have only mounted it and picked up the hardware to make it go, for the calibers I want to play with, (223, 45, 9mm, 380) and even have all the reloading components to do such, really I do Looking forward to learning from the site, meeting some new folks and get this monster of a reloading press up and going. So thanks in advance to all who take the time to post their experiences. Dave
