    Best slide lock

I find the Glock 34/35 stock slide release is the best. I've got one on my G19. Huge improvement.
  2. USPSA 8.3.2 - “Are You Ready?” – The lack of any negative response from the competitor indicates that he fully understands the requirements of the course of fire and is ready to proceed. If the competitor is not ready at the “Are You Ready?” command, he must indicate to the Range Officer that he is not ready. IDPA 2.12.3.3.1. After “Load and Make Ready,” the SO will ask the shooter “Are You Ready?” If ready, the shooter should respond verbally, or by obvious nodding of the head, but may also choose to stand ready. If there is no response from the shooter in approximately three (3) seconds the shooter is assumed to be ready. I think this is where the confusion comes from.
  3. Thanks Fury, ranges are hard to come by in RI! I hope I can find a good club soon. I've realized how lucky I am in Vermont.
  4. An RO expecting a verbal or physical response before the "Standby" is one of my biggest pet peeves. The time between the "Are you ready" and the beep is my time to focus mentally on the stage before jumping to beat the buzzer. Simply take a lack of negative response as the indication I am ready, as the rule book states. You bring up a valid point in how common it is to find an RO who changes up the Range Commands. I've seen people DQ due to RO's not following range command procedure and competitors misinterpreting the commands since they aren't following procedure. It's unfair to the competitor and can be unsafe. However, I don't think much will change unless you take initiative at your own club.
  5. Thanks for the input. I guess I should consider it an investment. After all, you do get the best warranty on the market. Picked it up today. Proud new owner of a SDB!
  6. Here's the deal. I'm a college student tight on cash. I've been competing for just over a year now. I shoot 200 rounds a week. Brand new to reloading. Want to start reloading in 9mm. I found a Square Deal B on armslist for $275, 9mm dies included. It's used, has some wear, but everything works. Good deal? Anything I should check for before purchase?
  7. Hey Nitro, always good to see another Vermonter join the forum! If you are interested in USPSA, I would definitely hit up GMPS at Lamoille Valley Fish and Game. They host great matches about once a month and have a great atmosphere. It is easy to be overwhelmed when entering the sport, but I have found the guys and gals at these matches are very welcoming to beginners and offer a great knowledge base. I strongly recommend starting there! To answer your question about being classified in USPSA, you can shoot a match as U, or unclassified. Each match usually has at least one classifier stage. You can become a member on the USPSA website, it's $25 or $40 a year with a subscription to Front Site magazine. Hope to see you at a match soon!
  8. Greetings from Vermont! New member to the BE forum, although I've been snooping now for almost a year. Thought it was about time to join up. A bit about myself,,,I'm a Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Vermont, currently residing in Burlington, VT. I compete on the University of Vermont Pistol Team in the Scholastic Pistol Program, against other colleges across the country (Coast Guard, West Point, Harvard, Yale, UNH, Texas, Florida, etc.). I've started practicing for USPSA matches, as our team has a working relationship with Green Mountain Practical Shooters and Lamoille Valley Fish and Game Club, which runs great matches. So here's the problem. I have a practice range and club in Vermont, but I go home to Cumberland, RI in the summer. Can any Rhode Islander's help out? I'm looking for a local range that isn't static near my house and a good club that runs matches on a regular basis (once a month preferable). The Massachusetts border isn't too far away if any MA residents want to jump in. Thanks and see you on the forums!
