Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I shoot my Glock 35 in a local action pistol match. I added a brass mag well to put more weight in my hand....necessary for a .40 S&W in my opinion. Anyways, I was using CA-approved Glock 10-round mags. I shot my first 8 or 9 rounds and did a tactical mag swap. Mag fell free no problem. Slapped a fresh one in and went to continue the stage. I got one round off then the mag falls free and the gun goes "CLICK". I have learned many things from this. 1. Mag wells are a good thing (and the brass looks cool on my combat tupperware!). 2. Factory 10-round mags feed in a straight line, like a 1911. 3. There is almost no spring play in the mags when you get that 10th round loaded. 4. Glock 10-round .40 S&W mags need to be smacked SHARPLY when seating. 5. Bumper pads would have been a good thing to have. 6. Practice more malfunction drills. Other than that, I finished 3rd overall at that match. I love that GLock 35.
  2. I have a THE brass mag well on my 35. I like the added weight in the hand that the brass gives and the well is HUGE. Makes rapid reloads a snap.
  3. CR Speed. Been using one with my Glock 35 for a few months now. Works really REALLY well. The finger flip lock keeps the trigger guard locked securely until you're ready to shoot.
  4. Thanks for the advice, everyone. Finally got all the bells and whistles attached. Thought I'd share a little and see what you think.
  5. I just shot my first Steel Challenge match a few weeks ago. It was the big deal in Piru. I shot it with my cowboy guns. As you might expect, I was in the back of the bus score-wise. Having shot itand seen what the real deal is all about, I want to get more involved and shoot next year's Steel Challenge with an auto in addition to my cowboy guns. My gun of choice is a Glock 35 .40 S&W. Am I losing anything against the other race gun platforms? It's my first .40 so I took it out today and sighted in the iron sights at 25 yards. The first thing I noticed was how pleasant it was to shoot. It didn't give the sharp crack a 9mm does or the big rolling shove of a .45ACP. It's also REALLY danged accurate. After 10 or so sighters to get the sights aligned, I was able to get three-shot groups that touched each other all afternoon. So, someone tell me....where from here? I want to trick it out possibly as far as making it an Open gun. Will all I need be a C-More sight and optics mount, better trigger, and a comped barrel (probably from KKM)? Share your wisdom guys and gals.....

    Good Luck!

Well, that was my very first Steel Challenge and I had a ball. I shot it with my single actions because I'm a cowboy action shooter mostly. Even though most all of us in Single Action were at "the back of the bus" as far as scores were concerned, we all had a great time. We also had a great time hosting the Cowboy Carbine, .22 Rimfire Rifle, and Vang Comp Shotgun events down the road at our range. Even though I was one of the last to pull a package off the table, I still walked away with $400 worth of stuff. That's not too bad. It also has given me the bug to shoot it next year with a semi auto. So, now I'm outfitting my Glock 35 with dot sights, new comped barrel, better trigger and the like just so I can try to bark in the same zip code as the big dogs. Dang...what an addictive sport!!!
