  1. I don't necessarily disagree, but IDPA claims cover as one of its big virtues and stresses it in all its documentation. I had a bunch of people ask me the other night, "you mean I can stand here in the open and shoot that target, then have to almost stand on my head to get that other one?" As long as you don't touch ground on the other side of the line, it's OK. I'm just afraid someone is going to get hurt, especially on the concrete floor we have.
  2. I've now shot and run the clock on two matches under the new rules. The problem I see with the 1 second per point rule is two fold: From the competitor perspective, it's almost impossible to come back from a bad stage in a sanctioned match, if you make a mistake. With the 1/2 second, you had a chance. From a SO perspective, I'm having people that never paid much attention before, arguing over every call. The reload rules are great. No problem with those yet. I don't like the fault lines. During the first match, they were set like the diagrams in the early rules and people were just about falling while shooting one side of an array. As a result, the club made the match director make them more "generous". We aren't shooting from cover for a good portion of the targets. I don't have a problem with it as a competitor, but as an SO, I'm afraid someone is going to get hurt because of them. In both cases, "height challenged" people had to switch gun hands and shoot with either their strong or weak hand because they couldn't reach one of the targets. In other words, the course of fire was different for people with different physical builds. I didn't see that as fair.
  3. Both my CCP gun and my BUG were outlawed by the new box. Both weren't very far off, but both wouldn't fit. Today, I started playing with magazines and have them very close by grinding on the bottom of test magazines. My bug was a Taurus Millenium Pro (don't laugh...at least too hard). I believe that will fit in the box after I ground the pinky rest off the magazine and push it all the way into the gun (past where it normally rests). The XD mod 2 was only about a 1/16" out after pushing the mag all the way in. I won't do a sanctioned match with either until I get my hands on an Official box, but I believe I can make them both fit now with some more trimming. This may be good news for the XD mod 2 4" owners, so don't sell your guns yet.
  4. Anybody have any good ideas about making the Mod 2 4" legal in IDPA? It's down to about a 1/16" now.
  5. When you do have another classifier, ask that they use the score for all classes the gun will fit into. I usually classify with an SSP gun and apply it to ESP. When I classified for CCP (that gun is now too tall by 1/8 "), I had them use the time for SSP and ESP, since that gun also fit those classes.
  6. Is the M&P too tall? My XD mod 2 4" is by 1/8 " and now no longer allowed in CCP. I hadn't even done a match with it yet and they made it illegal .
  7. I had problems with their 9mm 147's tumbling out of a polygonal barrel (PPQ), but the 124's and 115's are fine. I use their 170's in .40 SW all the time and have never had a problem except too much smoke on night stages (yes, I use titegroup). I still shoot them because of the price. Their prices include shipping.
  8. From what I've heard it has or is soon being sent out to the AC's for comment...so it's not ready for public consumption yet.
  9. Sorry to inform the people coming, but this match has been cancelled. Tropical Storm Matthew left 34 inches of water in our range and clubhouse. There is a lot of water damage and we will not be able to clean it up in time.
  10. In cold weather, every now and then, you can catch me wearing a non-IDPA like vest (never the 5.11 though). I got in the habit after shoulder surgery. The other night, I saw two good reasons to have them. We had two younger female shooters show up, one using a flimsy sweater as a cover garment and other using a loose short untucked blouse. The sweater kept getting caught on the gun during each draw and I had to stop the loose blouse wearer twice because the material was getting into the trigger housing during re-holster (luckily, not striker fired). We loaned both of them vests for the rest of the stages. Like someone above said, I really like them too, especially for newer shooters. ...much easier for the SO to see what is happening.
  11. The absence of a specific complaint does not constitute agreement. Likewise, the failure of most shooters to care what they do, is not a validation or argument for the need for change.
  12. Norfolk County Rifle Range will be hosting a BUG/CCP match on 14-15 October...in case you are interested. Sign-up will be on PractiScore.
  13. Yes, the 5X5. Sorry, didn't remember the name.
  14. This may be a stupid question, but if Bill Wilson wanted 1 second per point, why did he use 0.5 seconds as the basis of his short 25 round classifier? From what I heard, he was the one that came up with that last year?
  15. Just taking one side off may be a problem for SSP in a sanctioned match. The shaft sticks out that side noticeably and it's obvious that something's missing.
  16. Mine fit in the box (the wooden one from IDPA) just fine, but it doesn't fit in square. You have to angle it a little. It is not 9" long, maybe 8.6" The only thing I had to do with it was to change the safety lever, since the original ambidextrous ones were too thick for the box. There are several in the witness line to choose from though. I started ESP with it, shooting single action, but now I shoot SSP with it. I will eventually slap on a magwell and upgraded trigger and move back to ESP. If you add the magwell though, you will have to remove some weight somewhere and probably shave the beavertail because the magwell probably won't let it fit in the box on angle any more. I'm going to learn the double action before I do anything to it though. I've done 4 sanctioned matches with it this year and it has fit in every box and hasn't been questioned, except for two people that said they would buy one after looking at and playing with mine. Full disclosure: Mine, by the way, is the .40sw. I make weight and everything, but I don't know about the 9mm version, since I don't have a 9mm barrel yet. I know it's heavier, but don't know by how much. I would rather shoot 9mm for cost, but use 170 grain Precision bullets with about 3.2 grains of Titegroup, which gives very little recoil in this heavy a gun. Oh, and you can change calibers easily with the same frame... Hope this helps.
  17. He probably had "reload practice" confused with "draw practice"...and I've never gotten an email from Joyce...I feel ignored.
  18. Not exactly what you have, but close....170 precision (moly) with 3.3 TG, 155 precision with 3.7 TG. With Precision I've had to load at 1.1 or shorter for a Witness Limited Pro. I'm running out of Tightgroup fast, so I either need to find some more or switch to something else.
  19. Huum, good thought. I don't get paid to wear a shirt, but they may pay me not to take it off.
  20. No doubt...I'm doing it occasionally during reloads, it seems.
  21. I'm used to 1911 safeties with a positive feel when they are "clicked" either on or off. My limited pro safety just moves up and down with no tactile feel or noise. It doesn't seem right and has allowed me to embarrass myself numerous times in matches when I accidently slide it up enough to activate it without noticing. I've been starting double action, so really don't even use it right now. Is that normal? (Not the accidental activation part, but the lack of a positive feel or resistance of some sort.) I used to have a plastic witness and I don't remember the safety being that way. If it is normal, is there anything to do about it?
  22. I looked at over 2600 holes yesterday. An overlay would have been useful for maybe one of them and that one went to the shooter. The only time I would even consider wanting one is in judging hole diameters for bounced shots or for turning or falling targets.
  23. Why would anyone cheat on the classifier anyway and end up not being able to be competitive anymore?
  24. I second red locktite on the front sight. Mine flew off in two matches with blue.
