Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. My 2011 slide has been cut for Bomar sights. It currently has what I believe is a Rock River Racker. It's about 1/8" plate cut like a half a dog bone that sticks out the back of the slide. With the optic on my gun it's a pain in the butt to grab. Does anyone make a racker that is a drop in fit? Most of the Rackers I have seen look like a long thin flat bar but I have seen some that are about 3/8" round and knurled that only protrude from the slide about 1 1/2". I like these but have no idea who makes them. What kind of racker is this and will it fit a bomar cut?
  2. My Tripp framed 2011 has had the grip safety disabled. The safety still moves but doesn't do anything. From what I have read the previous owner likely trimmed the arm off of it. Until I am more used to the pistol I would prefer to have a working grip safety. My plan is to order a new sti safety and do it myself. I understand I may have to do a little filing on the arm to fit it, but do they drop in otherwise? Is there a better or easier option? Any advice is appreciated.
  3. What frame mount are you guys using with the Romeo 3? The only frame mounted optic I have is an old ass propoint tube sight but have a Romeo 3 on our end of my ARs as a back up sight that I might use.
  4. Have never had a kick of trouble with my TRP Tactical or my S&W 1911SC. Both just keep running with anything I load in them as long as i keep springs in then . Can't say the same for some Kimbers amd 1 sig 1911 I have owned.
  5. My new to me Tripp 2011 feeds WWB and Sig ball like greased bb's through stock STI mags. I don't intend to run factory through it as soon as my dies and brass arrive but I couldn't let a new toy sit waiting on ups and that's what my LGS had on the shelf
  6. Does anyone out there have a 6" STI 2011 that wouldn't mind taking a measurement for me? I need to know the length from the front of the trigger guard to the end of the barrel. Need a measurement that doesn't include any compensators. I have a vintage Tripp 2011 5" open gun with compensator and I'm trying to figure out how much the comp will stick out of a blade tech stingray holster for the 6" STI. I know I will have to do some trimming and forming on the holster to clear my frame mounted optic bracket and reform the end to fit my comp. Trying to come up with a cheap and easily available kydex holster to modify that will protect my pistol for bumming around the woods and general range carry. Has anyone tried this before? If so what holster did you use and how did it come out?
  7. Posted in wrong area, moved to gear section
  8. I would ignorant to claim I know next to anything about the 2011 guns but felt this one was clean, tight and in great shape at a price I could easily afford to get me going. Haven't done anything except zero the aimpoint and plink with it but so far I am giddy as a school girl. It runs likes it's on ball bearings and shoots lights out even though the cheap ball ammo probably isn't producing enough gas to adequately run the compensator. Coming from the CORE/Trijicon combo this thing tracks like it has eyes. I may eventually upgrade the sight as i learn what I like but I can't ask for more right now
  9. Redfisher that 1996 pistol is a baby compared to mine. My only competitive shooting so far has been casual speed steel at a local club but I want to start shooting ipsc. I do okay with my 9mm S&W CORE and Trijicon RMR on plates but the urge to try a 2011 style pistol wouldn't go away! Walked up to a local gun counter recently and found an early Tripp framed 2011. When I got it home I started trying to learn more about the platform and found pictures of my actual gun online. Apparently it was made for an old president of the uspsa/ipsc and has appeared in a few magazine articles. The price seemed good considering the shape of the gun and 5 included magazines so I bought it. It could probably use a new guide rod, new springs as i dont know their age or round count, and i plan to replace the slide stop as it has been dimpled so it wont engage manually. I'm sure I will get laughed at by the guys with the new high end 2011's for my old relic, but I figured the history of its original owner in the sports beginnings made it kind of cool for me to start with. So far I have only shot some 225gr Winchester white box through it but it shoots amazing and smoother then anything I have ever felt Here is my vintage pistol:
  10. I posted about my new to me 2011 38 super in my thread about the slide not manually locking back. It's a 5" Lissner barrel with a compensator. In digging into the gun fpr the slide stop issue i found that the guide rod button appears to have seen better days so I am going to replace it. Since I am at it and have no idea how many rounds the recoil spring has seen I figured I should replace it as well I plan to load some ammo down for steel plate stuff and some full bore for general plinking and uspsa which I'm planning to start. My question is will 1 recoil spring do both loads without undo abuse to my pistol. And if so what weight do you guys prefer? Obliged for any insight you guys can offer.
  11. Crash Dodson got it right, the previous owner took what looks like a Dremel ball head and dished it out pretty deep the the slide stop detent pinned the stop down. With the mag in place it created enough tension that it works if the slide is held just right. Don't have a spare so I threw the slide stop out of my S&W 1911SC in and it functions as it should. I know the 45 slide stop won't function with my 38 super mags but atleast it confirms what was going on. Guide rod button has seen better days anyways so i will ordering a new stainless slide stop and a 1 piece guide rod this week.
  12. I guess I should have explained it a bit better. I understand that the slide doesn't lock back on an empty mag due to the mags being trimmed. My issue is that if there is no mag in the gun and I pull the slide back, the slide stop lever can not be manually engaged to lock the slide. When I insert an empty mag it manually locks like normal. So is it normal to not be able to manually lock the slide without a magazine in the gun?
  13. I am totally new to the 2011 style platform but not the 1911 in general. I recently bought a Tripp 2011 in 38 super that was apparently built for Dave Stanford the ex USPSA and IPSC president. The slide stop doesn't automatically lock back on an empty magazine but i can manually lock it on an empty mag. The problem is that the slide lock will not engage without a magazine in the gun. Any ideas why?
