  1. If you need reading glasses, these sights might help: http://www.advantagetactical.com/ I am 57 and I use them. No, I am not a master shooter, but the sights help me.
  2. At an IDPA match there is a safe table where one can handle their gun. Ammunition is not to be handled at the safe table. Can one handle empty magazines at the safe table?
  3. As I recall, buyers were afraid that the aluminum would wear out, so S&W went back to steel cylinders. I have never heard a report of anybody actually wearing out an aluminum cylinder. You might want to post your question on the S&W forum.

    Airsoft

What is the best Airsoft pistol to use for practice to improve my IDPA shooting with a Glock 17? Where is the best place to buy it? I have done a little net research. It appears there are at least three different Airsoft models, runiing roughlu $25, $75 and $190 depending upon which one you buy. I would guess the most expensive model is best, and the gas blowback modles are better than the spring models, but the expensive one seems out of stock at many sites, and I read one place where a guy like the mid-priced model best. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks in advance !
  5. I got a Generation 4 model 17 and had the gunshop install the Laserlyte rear sight. It is really cool. The lazer shows up bright indoors, but fades outdoors in bright light. You can still use a flashlight on the rail if you want. You can still use a bayonet on the rail if you want. (OK, OK, I am joking about using the bayonet, although I did buy one for the novelty factor.) If the laser is not bright enough, or the battery is dead, or whatever, you still have the open sights. The Laserlyte does not cause problems with my holsters. I do not carry daily, and have not had the Laserlyte for very long, so I don't know if it will snag on clothes and such, or how well it will hold up over time, or how long the batteries will last.

  7. New IDPA rules have two revolver divisions. Revolvers with moonclips are in a different division than revolvers with speedloaders. The speedloader division has an appeal because it has a lower power factor requirement for the cartridges. (You can shoot lower recoiling rounds in the speedloader division.) I have used moonclips in my .45 S&W Mountain gun up to now. I was thinking of switching to the speedloaders. Problem is, when I tried speedloaders, they do not work as well with a short cartridge like the .45 autorim as they do with a longer cartridge. With the .45 autorim, the bullet barely enters the cylinder chambers (charge holes). If I am not careful, some of the rounds fall off the cylinder instead of into the cylinder chambers. (Its hard to be careful about reloads when you are under the clock and trying for speed.) I tried a longer bullet (255 grain RNFP bullet usually used for Colt .45 cowboy loads) and the cartridge is still too short. I am using the standard HKS speedloaders. (Not a lot of speedloader choices in .45 autorim.) Any suggestions, other than "go back to moonclips"?
