  1. One of my good freind's in the game has run the SBE's (his sons shoot also). You need to run hotter ammo and you can't just buy a carrier for them. But I would make the port easier to load . now and if you love the game and your a Benelli man get a M2 or Beretta n 1301 or maybe a Breda. The M2's are nice because they run the low recoil slugs well. The Beretta's are nice but I heard from a good source they Benelli port can be made a little better. BUT I know that Beretta relocated the serial number so maybe that is no longer true. Just get out and shoot. Any changes you want will be self evident I think.

    Best Connector??

TTI Grandmaster kit. Simple, cheap and effective.
  3. I put channel locks on the handle shaft near the bottom and the appropriate box end wrench on the nut and tighten it. It scratches the surface of the handle a little but does not move. I found just holding the handle and tightening did not work.
  4. Thanks for the update and sending me the file!
  5. I loaded a unzippng utility on my Macbook. After extraction there were only 27 loads so it must have been corrupted at some level. I appreciate the hard work of the OP in this endeavor and have seen some of his data before and it was good! I would like to say with the greatest respect that in the era of high speed internet connections, I don't really think it's necessary to compress a spreadsheet file. It's not a audio or video file so and excel file should download in a second or two. The old KISS rule is coming to mind here. I am not sure if the OP's compression utility is proprietary or the decompression is not making the jump to my Mac or what? OR, perhaps there is some forum specific file size requirement issue, I don't know? At any rate, I give up here unless someone would graciously like to upload a noncompressed version of the file. Thanks for listening.
  6. What is a .7z extension? I have office and was unable to view the data. I just installed office so I wonder if I have a glitch.
  7. I followed the steps in the series above. Interestingly, the first barrel i got my wife for 3 gun was a Odin Works 18" 3 gun barrel. We put a couple hundred rounds and one match through it. It was too heavy for her and we changed it out for a lighter barrel. Later when I shot out a barrel on my match rifle, I took her original barrel (which shot about .75 MOA) and mounted on my rifle with a new tight BCM upper which I lapped and bedded with green loctite. It shot 0.38 MOA after that, a real hammer. I just rebarreled another rifle for my son and used the same technique. I have not shot it off a rest yet though, just got it kinda zeroed and adjusted the gas block Saturday. I am convinced this technique is a benefit, not a detriment. I am not a member at Snipers Hide, but my impression is there are some posters over there that are pretty sophisticated as far as reloading and longer range shooting goes.
  8. My wife and I both 3 gun and have Gen 2-5 34's and 35's. For 3 gun I would get the Gen 5 gun because there are long range pistol shots in 3 gun and the Gen 5 guns are more accurate. I have been into Glocks since 1999 and the Gen 5's are more accurate. Some people poo poo that, but I don't care, it's true. Ask Glock! It was a requirement for the Army pistol trials or something. We both switched from Gen 3 34's to Gen 5 34's and we both agree we like them better. Upsides of the Gen 5 are better trigger. I went TTI Gen 5 kit with polish job. There is a longer sight radius also, MOS if you want it, and better accuracy as mentioned. Downside are increased cost, no adjustable sight made that I know of. We have had great luck with the Dawson Precision sights made for the Gen 5, and the mag release is a little short. There is a factory Glock extended slide release for the Gen 4 guns that also works in the Gen 5 and we installed those. The mass of the slide is a little heavier and the recoil spring assembly is a little longer so I would recommend something like a Jager guide rod and a 13# ISMI recoil spring, the gun would not going into battery well with an 11 pound spring.. If you go with a Gen 4 gun I personally would do the same parts appropriate for the Gen 4 plus change to a Gen 3 trigger bar assembly. Its part number 357 and has no bump on the trigger bar to drag on the slide. Glock was apparently worried there was flex in the trigger bar and it would move laterally and fail to disengage the mechanical striker block. I think its a non issue and changed one out in my wifes Gen 4 35 (for games where major is required). Incidentally, the geometry of the mechanical striker block (firing pin safety) was altered in the Gen 5 guns negating the need for the "bump" on the trigger bars. Bottom line is any Glock Gen will work. I would go with a 34. While any Gen will work, I think Gen 5 is most aptly suited to 3 gun because of the long shots and small steel. Make sure you know where your gun hits out to 50 yards for sure. If you want a 40 get a second gun, first world problems...
  9. The velocity increases don't make sense. My first thought was could there be an error with the powder dispenser. Do you have any rounds left you can pull and weigh the charges? I pooped some primers in days past when I just started shooting AR's with carbine gas systems. Now I use mid length or rifle gas systems with an adjustable gas block and I think the bolt stays closed longer so the case can depressurise and there is less chance to poop a primer. A can would arguably increase the back pressure and unlock the bolt sooner but that does not explain the velocity increase, at least to me. Following...
  10. I shoot 75/77 class bullets for 3 gun. You will get higher velocities with the ball propellants as a rule owing the the higher nitroglycerin content. I have tried the older propellants like 748 and BLC-2 and there ok but I find that they do not have a broad accuracy node and are more finicky. I found CFE 223 accurate across a broad range basically from 24-25 grains with a 75-77 grain bullet. It is easy to find a load for and accurate in a lot of guns. You can safely load way above that 25 grains according to the last two Hornady manuals for a 75 grain HPBT. TAC is also good and there is a known accuracy node (IMO) between 23 and 24 grains. Western powders has 5.56 data published for this propellant and 2520 as well and you can go much higher like the CFE but I lost accuracy in hand lapped match barrels. I use 8208 XRB because its temp stable and meters good through my Dillon measure with lower SD's than any ball propellant. I think it is the most accurate powder I have ever used. Make sure you check all the load data, the manufacturers website says 23.2 is max for a 77 SMK. The Lyman, Hornady and Berger manuals I have are more conservative than that sadly. Make sure you work up to 23.2 if you try it. When I called Sierra they quoted me the 23.2 for the TMK as well. I load for 3 match rifles on a 650 and the ammo is solid sub moa, SD's are in the high teens.
  11. I would probably get caddies if it were me but that just how I am. I use invictus practical but heard the Safariland is the best now. I would be get two 8 round caddies to start. I think you will find Vortex is the dominant optic in 3 gun for a good reason. Is money is tight I would get a Strike Eagle if not I would get one of these: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/921516/vortex-optics-viper-pst-gen-ii-rifle-scope-30mm-tube-1-6x-24mm-1-2-moa-adjustments-illuminated-vmr-2-moa-reticle-matte If you can afford the same optic in a Razor I would do that. Use your more accurate rifle and use heavy bullets beyond 200. I use Blade Tech Holsters (WRS) and mag pouches but really any are fine. Retention holsters are common in 3 gun. You can get that carrier welded up an C-Rums gunsmithing but if you are instantly hooked you can send your gun to someone like Hayes Custom guns and they will do the whole deal or you can do your own work and have your carrier welded up. If you did not have a SBE you could buy a lifter. I changed everything after I started shooting but my formula is AR 15 with 15" free float forend, 18" or 16" match rifle barrel and a good brake, adjustable gas block, good trigger, Glock 34 or 2011, Benelli M2 with port, lifter work and rear sight plus caddies and a chest rig. Don't forget the sun screen and Salomon Speedcross shoes
  12. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/946894/glock-extended-magazine-release-glock-17-19-22-23-24-25-26-27-28-31-32-33-34-35-37-38-39-gen-4-reversible-polymer-black I have installed 2 now in gen 5 guns. Just a smidge longer but adequate.
  13. I think if they collected data at most respectable 3 gun matches, the dominant optic for shooters paying for their own optic is a Vortex Razor. I think it's for a good reason, primarily glass clarity and functional reticles. There are other great optics too and those are some nice optics you listed. I would look at your load and the reticles in Strelok and see what works well with your load. The C More TJ reticle for instance was designed by Todd Jarrett for his Match load which is a fast moving 77 gr bullet and I think that would work well for IMI Razor Core 77 or MK 262 Mod 1 also. If your shooting a 75 or 77 grain bullet going 2500-2600 fps the VMR2 MOA reticle in the Razor would probably work better than the JM1. But the main thing is to have decent glass so you can see your target, you will get to know your reticle. I would not get a 1-4 unless your looking for a lightweight build.
  14. I don't think there is a huge degradation in accuracy. We don't shoot 3 rounds and let in cool on a bench. When we are checking zero we load a 30 round mag and shoot some groups at 100 and 200. I have not shot 30 round mag dumps and then tested it though specifically. But MD's invariably put a bunch of hoser targets before long range targets and functionally she is making many first round hits out to 500. We are shooting a warm load out of our rifles too, a 75 gr HPBT at ~2630 out of a 16" and ~2720 out of my 18" barrel. I just ordered another one of those Odin barrels today for her other rifle (run n gun light weight build) from righttobear.com for about $250 on sale. There are other brands and this is just my experience. There was a barrel thread on here recently that you can look at also. FWIW, my wife won a Troy Revolution carbon fiber forend and I put it on her rifle and there was a serious degradation in accuracy. I put her Samson forend back on and sub moa again. The only thing I can figure out is that the skinny barrel whips a lot and that carbon fiber is thicker than aluminum. I think the adjustable gas block was hitting the forend. I have it mounted on another rifle now with a heavier barrel profile and its fine (same gas block too). So it may not be best to go with a skinny forend with a skinny barrel. My sample size is one though. Also, since we are on the subject of precision if you will, Criterion Barrels has a series of videos out on accurizing the AR. I followed those steps (bedding and truing the fce)and it made a difference. The reason I know this is because I originally bought my wife and 18" Odin 3 gun barrel. Nut she is 5'4" and a buck 15 and it was too heavy. The barrel shot sub moa, something on the order of .7 moa. After truing the face and bedding the barrel extension with green loctite, it was .38 moa with the same barrel. Depending on your comfort level with AR builds etc...
  15. I shoot 3 gun and most people I know shoot Wylde chambered guns. The throat is tighter and the jump is actually longer on the Wylde chamber cut, as I understand it, to accommodate 80 grain bullets not loaded to mag length. Don't quote me on that though. I would definitely get the Wylde chamber cut. When I read your post I thought I would just step out of the box and say what was on my mind, and that is, don't get the Faxon Barrel. I have heard mixed reviews on them on this forum. Get a Odin works or Criterion and call it a day. The Odin barrels in 223 Wylde except the ultralyte weight model has a sub moa guarantee. My wife has a Ultralyte barrel on her competition rifle and it is a solid sub moa performer with match ammo. Every single person I know with a Criterion barrel, which is more than a few, is completely happy with them reporting remarkable accuracy, I want one I just keep getting the Odin barrels on sale from Primary Arms. If you want to save money get a Ballistic advantage barrel, they have a sub moa guarantee also. All our AR's with match barrels easily shoot sub moa and you will like it I promise. You can thank me later. I may be way out of line on this with the Faxon barrels, maybe I am wrong and they are great, but that is the first thing that that came to my mind.
  16. Ow-20 Syn motor oil. I think Slip 2000 is the best oil made for guns but the motor oil seems better than all. CLP is gone after a match when I get home, the gun is dry.
  17. Around here in the Carolinas most of the matches I shoot go beyond 300 in every match and often times on multiple stages. In the last year I have shot beyond 400 multiple times with the longest shot at 500 yards. Everyone does not shoot 55 gr bullets here. Most of my squad mates are shooting 75 or 77 gr bullets, some 69 or 68's in the mix. IMI Razor Core 77 gr and Black Hills MK 262 Mod 1 is commonly used also. Hosing ammo up close is common. There are folks that shoot the whole match with PMC Bronze. I agree it is a paradox that your 55 grain is shooting terrible but you can group MOA with Federal GMM. I had a friend who bought a VTAC S&W AR for 3 gun and I it shot terrible. She sent it back to Smith and they replaced the barrel and a whole bunch of other parts too.
  18. I have a brake on my competition rifles like most people and my latest barrel is shooting .38 MOA at 100 with a 6x optic. I would recommend a brake if you want to shoot faster splits AND see your impacts at long range. I use a Seekins Precision ATC. PRS shooters also use brakes for the competitive advantage afforded by the brake. As to the 55 grain bullets, a lot of them lack the precision . I think you will find if you shoot something like a 55 grain Vmax or a 50 something gr match bullet, it will group better than a 55 gr FMJ. Those are the cheapest bullets for a reason. Its nice when you have a barrel that shoots those precisely but that is not the norm. You already have a barrel that shoots decent with 69 grain bullets, that is a good start. You can go up the food chain and get a quality hand lapped barrel and it will shoot better but still may not shoot 55 gr FMJ precisely. Most of us handload to mitigate the cost of the better match rounds. Using 3 gun as an example, my game, most experienced shooters (but not all) do not use 55 gr ammo for long range for a myriad of reasons. You could mail order in bulk what works for you if your not interested in handloading. Shoot the barrel out and put a better one on.
  19. I shoot with progressive lenses with no problems. Your brain will get trained where to look. Older guys gravitate to open for a reason I guess, those pesky front sights get blurry. I make sure not to wear too dark of a lens so I can see the sights good. I mostly go a progressive red on my Rudy Projects with bifocal inserts behind. My former Ophthalmologist, who used to shoot 3 gun, told me I should get the best visual acuity from glasses, but I have very good visual acuity with contacts too. I just cant see up close well. I also had Lasik about 12 years ago but my vision regressed to what it was before. I did have sharp 20/15 vision for a few years but lost my near accommodation. Depending on the shape of your corneas and all the other considerations, it may be worth talking with your doctor about. I wish I would have went to a place with a lifetime guarantee. I did not watch the whole video, so sorry if some of this has been addressed.
  20. I wanted to get one of their 3 gun barrels cut down to 17" and my question is did they charge you a lot to cut down one of their barrels or did you cut it down?. Their 3 gun barrels are around $300. When you say lights out are you talking 0.3 or 0.4 MOA with a few loads and pretty much sub MOA with most match loads (not 55 grain crap) or iust it a little finicky? Sorry if this is taking the thread off target for my own selfish interests.
  21. I agree they are too short. I have installed the factory extended mag releases in mine. There are compatible with the Gen 4/5 guns. Its like a $6 part and probably only 1/6"" longer. I am not into super extendo controls anyway like on some guns. If your interested: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/946894/glock-extended-magazine-release-glock-17-19-22-23-24-25-26-27-28-31-32-33-34-35-37-38-39-gen-4-reversible-polymer-black
  22. I have both with the same optics, BCG's, brakes, match load with adjustable gas blocks etc. I think the 16" is not as soft as a 18" rifle gas setup. I have been intrigued about the 16" barrels with longer than ML gas systems like the Stretch 16 or Odin Works intermediate length gas system barrels. I have not heard (from 3 gunners) a lot of positive things about 16" rifle gas barrels.
  23. We shoot a load similar to that but with a 147 grain and use 13 pound springs in our Gen 5 34's. Jager rod, ISMI springs.
