Faxon Barrels are very Accurate, Many of the reloaders and testers on YouTube use their barrels.  Johnny's reloading bench is 1 of these men. I put a 20" Faxon national match stainless barrel with R5 rifling on my latest AR10 build which was 308 and I can keep all the rounds in 1⁄2" all day @ 100 yd That's accurate enough for me.

Compelling information, that is accurate enough for me too.

  2. I would guess something is broken or awry you have not noticed.  I have broken 1 extractor, just a chip, on a heavy use gen 2 G17 I bought used and wore one out on a gen 3 G34 with maybe 30k down the barrel.  On the 34 the gun would intermittently choke.  In both cases when I changed the extractor it ran 100%.  But I would look at both guns very carefully and look for something broken or awry when you detail strip.

    Good luck.

  3. Somewhere on the internet is a test of aftermarket barrels using a ransom rest.  I think the Gen 5 guns are more accurate.  I don't have an opinion about Faxon barrels but I always bought higher up the food chain for my AR builds.

  4. I want to recall that Lee's presses do not cam over.  Do you have another press that will cam over? If you move your sizing die over to another press, I wonder if that will give you the other thousandth you are looking for.  I have the Dillon power trimmer with an integral die that sizes the case.  I have to cam over the press (650) to make the brass drop in the gauge.  Dillon 223 dies are supposed to be like small base dies also.

  5. I normally use PD 147 FMJ for my 9mm gamer loads.  I loaded about 3600 Bayou coated bullets when things were hard to come by.  I found I had to really flair the case a lot to get that Bayou seated without scraping the coating and other problems that prohibited the round from dropping in the gauge.

I would check and make sure your resized case drops in a case gauge first.  I bet it will.  Then I would flair the case the bare minimum needed to put a bullet in it. I suspect this may fix your problem.  I think there are essentially different die setups for coated and genuine copper-jacketed bullets.

I have used Dillon and Lee sizing dies with no problems.

  6. I have patterned Carlson, factory Benelli, Briley, or Pure Gold.  The Pure Gold pattern tighter and when we tried buckshot, was the only brand to put more pellets on target than the other brands.  Its a small company from SC that does some sponsorship in the carolinas (I don't know about other places) and Pure Gold is popular here.  There spreader chokes also are efficacious.  I have not patterned any other brand of spreader type choke.

I highly recommend shooters pattern all there chokes at various distances for 3 gun.  I disagree that light mod for 90% of shooting in 3 gun is an effective strategy.  I change chokes a lot.

If I was shooting distance like duck hunting, I would get Pure Gold.  I have met guys that hunt deer with buck shot and dogs and they pattern every brand trying to find what works best for that mission, also turkey hunters that have patterned a lot of chokes.

In summation, I guess my experience is most chokes are very close, with Pure Gold being a little better.

  7. I like Dawson fiber optic front and rear, those rear dots give these aging eyes a elevation reference.  I like the skinniest of the front sight choices as well.  There are fixed and adjustable Dawson sights for glocks.  I like the adjustable but only have fixed to choose from on the Gen 5 guns because the MOS pushed the rear sight dovetail rearward.  Maybe Dawson has an adjustable sight for the Gen 5 guns now.  I have not looked in a long time but I doubt it,

  8. I think the fast burning propellants associated with action shooting having a perceived softer recoil impulse.  Consider shooting  a 147 loaded to the same velocity with Power Pistol and a faster propellant like N320, Red Dot, or Titegroup.  I have done this and the faster propellants seem softer and they lock the slide back more reliably.  I shot around 20K or so rounds of handloaded 147s and tried factory 115s.  There was a marked difference in my opinion.  Yes, I know PF is not equivalent there.

  9. I just shot a match last weekend and went between spreader and IC.  Here in the Carolinas I have occasionally used tighter than LM, but rarely.  I would suggest patterning your chokes at various distances.  If you switch brands you may likely learn not all brands pattern as well as others.  I see where your slugs shoot.  Some peoples guns shoot left or right or high with slugs.  I have adjustable sights.

  10. My loads seem to go slower than everyone else's and I live at higher elevation in the mountains.  Using Precision Delta 147 FMJ over 3.4 gr of VV N320 I get between 860-910 in various Glock 34s and STIs.  I am using Federal SPP and a Lee FCD.  Don't be afraid to shorten the COL some to make your load run in all your guns.  I noted very little if any velocity change shortening my loads.  I know what the load manuals say.  You need a chronograph in your life :)

I find it hard to believe their trigger will reduce the trigger pull weight almost 3# without some serious spring changes.

I was wondering what it would be with a 4# striker spring.  Or is there is issue using as lightened striker spring/  A 3 pound trigger pull with a full power striker spring is an interesting cocktail.

  12. I have several single stage presses and my favorite is very much the Forster Coax.  The die switching is amazing and far better than and O press IMO.  With quality dies, like Forster, it is easy to load concentric ammo.  We can go down a whole rabbit hole about concentricity, die floating and all that, but I won't.  I have a Rockchucker IV and it's not even set up right now.  I have a Lee Classic cast setup that I use for bullet pulling.  Since the Forster is so easy to set up and change dies, I do load development on it with a powder dispenser.  Depending on the what it is I am loading, I mostly load on a Dillon after a load development.  I do not shoot long range competition just 3 gun, but I do shoot out to 700 yards with some regularity.  If your going to load rifle with any consideration of longer range, a chronograph and understanding why low SD's are important is something else to consider.  The older I get the more picky I am.  If I was doing a turret, which is worth consideration, I think the T7 is worth considering.

  13. Our Gen 5 Glock 34's will barely close the slide with a 11# recoil spring.  I think 13# is the minimum for the gen 5 34 but I am not sure about the 17.  Our Gen 3 34's run good with 11# springs but I do use 13# springs in those guns as well.  My match loads (N320 3.5 gr, PD 147 COL 1.145) are too soft for the Gen 5 guns to function with the factory recoil spring.
