  1. This was a local match. Pretty common practice to leave the gun at the safe table while using the outhouse or running out to the parking lot. I guess it's mostly a locally accepted etiquette to leave the gun visibly safe. No, I wouldn't leave it laying around at a larger match either. Thanks for your comments.
  2. Please excuse me if this has already been asked and answered BUT...Is there actually a rule that mandates that a firearm is cleared and locked open if left unattended in the safety area? I looked, but couldn't find anything specific. If it IS a violation, what is the penalty? Thanks.
  3. MRBerg Sorry to take so long getting back. How does OAL affect things? I load at about 1.200" for feed in 1911s.
  4. xrayfk05 It wouldn't surprise me if somehow we had the same issue. I'm going to go to coated bullets I think.
  5. These things tumbled in two different barrels, and they measure .400"....Like I said, West Coast corrected the problem, It's just frustrating that they won't tell me why the one batch failed.
  6. Hi everyone, I've been away for some time! So I'm using West Coast plated 180gr. RNFP in my .40 limited guns. One has a well-used Scheuman barrel, and the other a brand spankin' new Nowlin. One lot of these bullets (I had at least 3K) would tumble to the point that I couldn't reliably hit a 12" plate at 10 yards, and could very well throw a miss on a metric target at 15! The bullets that hit were obviously going through sideways. I did all the usual, checked for too much crimp, checked for not enough bell...no good. So I call West Coast, give them the lot#, and they say send them back, we'll replace them. They were very good about replacing 3K that I had left. I loaded the new bullets without changing a thing with the load or the press, and proceeded to go out and shoot a 1 3/4" group offhand at 25 yards! (Way better than usual) Thing is, West Coast will give me no explanation for why the other lot was so crappy, and not knowing is driving me nuts. Does anyone have an idea what may have caused the first lot to be so erratic??
  7. Can anyone tell me how to adjust the fore and aft movement of the gun in a safariland 014 holster? Both the Para and the STI are a little sloppy. The instructions aren't very good.
  8. Hah! You're right! They stole it from USPSA, then we tossed it. Guess I've been around too long and have trouble breaking old habits.
  9. NOW, I'd like to know the PENALTY for taking more than a step away from the Make Ready position on the LAMR command?? 10.2.2??
  10. From Troy Mcmanus--  o Referencing 8.3.1.1, unless the WSB specifies some make ready location other than the start location, such as placing a gun on a barrel or table or in a drawer, the make ready location is the same as the start location. Writing permission to take a few steps away into the WSB violates 8.3.1.1 and is not allowed. It’s incumbent upon all RO’s to be aware of and enforce this rule
  11. I have both STIs and Paras that will feed empty brass, but I load 1.170" in practice ammo (works in glock or M&P) 1.2" with everything else, except 1.225" when using Clays. A gunsmith told me years ago that when pushing pressure limits, or even if you're not, a longer OAL will be more forgiving.
  12. In the match results on Practiscore there is a column for % (a shooter's overall placement in the match), AND a separate column labeled % possible. What is this % possible?
  13. I got it guys! Apparently my gun was one of the first off the assembly line. The old style striker didn't get along well with the Apex USB. There's a marked difference between the old and new strikers. Dropped in the new one and the gun is running 100%. I even ran some culls with high primers and they all went bang. Launched the pencil right to the ceiling! Thanks all of you for your input.
  14. Good idea. I'll try the pencil. It's a low-mileage carry gun, so I've never messed with the striker spring. Memphis, 50 rounds of factory actually did 100%, but the reloads in question were either Winchester or CCI primers, and double checked to be seated. I ordered a new striker assembly from Brownells. I compared with my 9L striker and it appears this problem gun is probably one of the earliest models with none of the upgrades.
  15. I shined a flashlight through the rear of the slide per someone else suggestion and I could observe that the striker block IS being moved up out of the way. Any other ideas why i'd be getting failures to fire?
  16. So....close the loop? I did open it quite a bit in order to insure sear release and reset.
  17. I put an Apex duty/carry AEK in my standard .40 including the striker safety. Now I'm getting occasional failure to fire. The old sear housing Block had the small diameter plunger so I put in a new one from Brownells along with a new "H" trigger bar. The raised portion of the trigger bar doesn't travel rearward enough to engage the striker block adequately. Any ideas? Does the "S" trigger bar have more reach?
  18. I use a large plastic container with a screw-on lid. (Holds about 500 rounds of .40) Throw in the loaded ammo, (Dillon lube seems stickier than One Shot) add a couple ounces of a product called "Awesome" that I buy at the Dollar store. roll it around for a minute, dump it into a plastic strainer and rinse it off with water. Dump them out on a towel and either wipe dry or just air dry. They're still shiny and there's no sticky-slimy left. This product is cheap, and it cleans just about everything from engine blocks to floors. The wife uses it to pre treat the laundry.
