Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Tim I just talked to Angus, and I should have my CZ back by Thurseday, and I called Tony C (Can you put me and Tony together on the same squad?), and he said he was going to shoot the points match, so you want to put your OPEN Gun up against some PRODUCTION Guns ? See you Friday for setup Mike L.
  2. XD Niner That sounds like the same problem I was having, but what is was the slide coming out of battery, and when you pull the trigger the slide goes forward. I finely just checked to see how much it took to hold the striker back, and made sure that the reciol spring I was using was 4-5 lbs. more. I shot a six stage match on Saturday with no problems (with the gun anyway), and won the Production divison. Good Luck.
  3. Pat Thanks, that is just the info I have been looking for. I have been using ISMI springs for a 1911, and when I get some time I will check to see what the compressed lenght is in a XD. For now I checked what tension it took to hold the striker back, and then used a recoil spring that was a few pounds heaver, and hope that will work. Thanks again Mike
  4. I thought that a lighter striker spring would let you run a lighter recoil spring, but I haven't found anyone selling a replacement. I have taken it apart, but it was put back togerther right, and it did have to go back to Rich for something eles, and I'm sure he put it back together right. I am working on testing some recoil spring weights, compared to the amount of spring tention to takes to keep the slide closed with the striker set. R/T sending it Springfield will be my last option, maybe this winter sometime (PS I go by 40SWXDSHOOTER on the XD fourm)
  5. mcb I have a Don's guide rod, and the factory one, and have had this problem with both. As for the spring length I have been using 1911 springs (uncut) because that is what you get from Pistol Gear when you order one for the Tacticals. I would think what if you used a comander spring that it would be shorter, and just add to the problem. I have been having better luck with a 22# spring, but everyone is telling me that it's too much spring, and if no one eles is running into this with 16-18# springs, what is wrong with my gun? I was thinking that the barrel could be worn, and cause it not to lock up tight, but I hate to throw more money at it by getting a new barrel, and have it still not work (the gun only has about 3000-4000rds through it).
  6. I am using ISMI springs for a 1911, which are the same as the springs for the XD Tacticals, as far as I know. With a empty gun with the striker down, I can, while holding the trigger back, I slam a mag in like I'm doing a reload, and have the striker reset when I have anything less then a 20# spring in it. If I have a snap cap in the chamber, and one in the mag, and do the same thing, the slide will slip out of battery about a 1/6th"- 1/8th". I know a lot of people shooting XDs without this problem, but they don't shoot as fast as I do (3-5 second reloads compared to my 1.4-1.8 second reloads) I like shooting my XD, because it's about the same as the gun I carry every day, but if I can't get it to work soon, I'm trading in in for a CZ 75 SP01.
  7. I started using a 16# spring when I first got my gun back from Rich, because that was what I was using in my STI, and it was ok untill I started to push a little harder then I started to have problems with the slide coming out battery when doing reloads. I talked to Rich and he said to use a 18#, and I have been working my way up from there. I had tried using a 20# spring, and it worked when I test fired it with about 50 rds, and 10-12 reloads, then about 50 rds into my next match it came out of battery on every reload. I am now using a 22#spring and it seems to be working. I realy like the XDs, but if I can't get this gun to work 100% I'm going to start looking for a new Production gun to use next year.
  8. The spring wasn't in the gun when I tested it. When I said that it was 8.75# when the slide was closed and 15# at full recoil, I was testing the spring out of the gun, but compressed to the point that it would be in the gun when it was closed and with the slide all the way back. What I wanted to know, was should a 20# spring have 20#s of force when the slide is closed, or when it is open, and all the way back? Thanks.
  9. If I buy a 20# recoil spring, at what point is it a 20# spring? I have been having trouble with my slide comming out of battery during reloads with my XD40 Tactial, so I started checking spring weights, and found things like a 20# spring was at about 8.75#s when holding the slide closed, and 15.0# when the slide is at full recoil. So what part of this makes this a 20# spring? Just so that we are on the same page, the spring in question (ISMI 20#) had less then 100 rounds on it, and I worked 5 years for a testing lab that did this kind of testing, so I know how to set up and run a test like this, and this was the result of just one of the springs I tested, but they where all like this (lower then what was on the package). So what dose the spring rating on the package mean?
  10. This might be off the topic, but has anyone had problems with the slide coming out of battery when doing a reload with lighter recoil springs in their XDs? It seams that the striker spring is pulling the slide out of battery when I "slam" the mag in. I have talked with Rich about this, and I have tried 18#, and 20# springs, and the problem didn't stop untill I used a 22# spring. PS Rich if you are out there my gun has been running at 100% since I got it back except for the reload thing. Thanks Mike
  11. Had two Glocks sold one, now I have three XDs and picking up #4 this afternoon. I have a XD40 Tactical for Production that Canyon Creek fixed up, a XD40 Service with Dawson night sights for carry, a XD40 Sub-Compact for just in case, and picking up another XD40 Service model just because it was cheep ($380).
  12. If it ever was anything but DPMS it must have been along time ago, because the first time I got parts from them I went right into Randys garage to get them, and that was maybe 15 years ago. As for the recevers they sell now I think they are all forged. They were at a gun show a couple of weeks ago and I picked up a stripped lower for $80, didn't need one, but couldn't pass it up. I have 4 DPMS lowers now, 2 with DPMS uppers, 1 with a JP upper, and 1 not sure yet. This is my first post here, but I have been lurking in the shadows for years.
