  1. Zero bullets are going up 10 percent next month too.
  2. Ok, I guess I'll throw my two cent in too. When I was working loads up for my new STI I worked loads to 169-170PF in three powders. Clays, Titegroup and 320. After making PF I loaded up 100 rounds each and headed to the range. I shot 3 drills ten times each with each load, recorded the times and did a comparison. I dropped the best and worst time in each drill and then averaged the times. Titegroup actually won but only slightly over clays and then 320. But it was so close that I'm sure if I shot it again on another day a different powder might win. Or maybe my gun cycles better with Titegroup. I don't know. I thought clays felt a little better but the results did not show it. If I had seen a definite advantage with Clays I would be loading Clays. I of course load out to 1.225 and saw no pressure signs. I'm only a B shooter and I would guess maybe if I were a Master or GM maybe I could really tell a bigger difference????
  3. As far as 40 is concerned, if I had a budget for it I might switch to VV320. It burns way cleaner than titegroup. That being said, I have shot 2000+ rounds between cleanings when I went to Franks school and I didn't have a problem. I can see no viable reason for me to switch to VV other than my gun being slightly less dirty. Plus, titegroup is a little faster burning than VV. Fast powder+heavy bullet seems to be the best formula these days. Fun conversation guys!
  4. There are 3 different kinds of Clays powder. Plain clays, international clays and universal clays. I listed them from fastest to slowest (titegroup falls between clays and international clays). The clays most people use in 45 is plain clays and in my opinion is the best as far as how it makes my gun recoil. Using plain clays in 40 is not recomended. The reason being huge pressure spikes on your way to major. However, I know of several people who use plain clays with a 180 in 40 with great success. The reason they can do this is that they load long (1.22 or longer) giving 40 a slightly larger case volume. I have been using titegroup for for my 40 loads for a long time and have shot my friends clays loads and the difference to me is very slight and not worth the risk of a pressure spike. Anyway, if you have been loading universal clays in your wifes 45, I think she would be pleased with plain clays. The recoil seems much less to me.
  5. It looks really cool. I'm hoping it will work well without the electric auto feeder and then I would add that when it becomes available. I just don't know if it will really speed thing up without the auto feeder.
  6. I was looking at the GSI bullet feeders and was wondering if it is worth buying. I have a 650 with a case feeder. Anyone bought one of these bullet feeders yet?
  7. Precision Delta would also be the way to go when shooting a glock with a after market barrel. My buddy had feed problems with the Zero JHP's. No problems with the PD's.
  8. For what it is worth. I prefer the Zero because there is a little less smoke since there is no exposed lead on the bottom. Also, two of my buddies switched to Precision Delta 180's before going to area 5. A strange thing happened at chrono. Turns out in the boxes of 180's they bought had some 165's in them as well. The bullet they pulled for both fellas only weighed 165. Both guys had them pull another bullet. One was a 180 (scored major) the other was a 165 and he of course chronoed minor. I'm sure that it was just one of those weird things that probably wouldnt happen again. That being said, I would be tempted to weigh my bullets before loading for a big match.
  9. Sorry!!!!!!!!!!!! I totally mean 5 divisions. How could I forget The division that I admire the most. Tim
  10. Here is my two cents, I always thought L-10 should be a single stack single-action only division. With 40 cal being the smallest diameter. I think it is only fitting to give the almost stock 1911 it's own place in our sport because this gun basically pioneered our sport. Also, the 1911 platform is still the dominant gun being used in 3 of the 4 divisions so it makes sense to be able to start shooting a 1911 without spending a few thousand dollars to be competitive. Which brings me to the problem I have now with L-10 is the fact that someone can be shooting a stock single stack 1911 next to a guy who is shooting his $2,600.00 limited gun that is tuned to the hilt (Any advantage here?). And to sum this all up I would just like to add that I don't think we need another division. Four seems to be plenty. Tim
  11. I'm using SPP now. I load both a major load and a minor load in 40. I'm getting a new Bedell limited gun that for which I will have to work a load up. So, that is why I was thinking about switching. I imagine I will stick with the SPP since I will still load both major and minor and there doesn't seem to be an advantage and there might be a disadvantage for the SRP in my minor load. If I shot open I might go a different way. Thanks, Tim
  12. I'm wondering if there is an advantage gained by using small rifle primers instead of using the regular small pistol primers for 40 major. Advantages in recoil maybe? Thanks! Tim
  13. Thanks for all the great info guys. It was a great help. BTW, I bought two dies an EGW and a Lee FCD. It seems to be working great!!! When I compare my sized cases using the new dies to a batch of roll sized brass I have, my new brass actually measures a little smaller no matter where I measure it. It really seems to be the answer!! Thanks again!!
  14. I hear a lot of people talk about roll sizing for 40. And here is my question. If a round has not been roll sized but has been size checked, Will it function reliably? Also, is there a die that does the roll size function? If not, who makes a roll sizer and where can I get one if I really need one? Thanks!!!
  15. Thanks everyone. I really appreciate your input. All of you were a great help. Tim
  16. I'm Thinking of having Bob build me a limited pistol and was just wanting to hear form some folks who own them and get some feedback. Thanks, Tim
