  1. My mother lives 1.5 hrs south of this range, so I could shoot this match and commute, and get a visit in. I've never shot a USPSA match in Ohio where I grew up, so that would be cool too. I have to say though, it does seem like an Also Ran National, like Climbhard wrote.
  2. What's the consensus on Mec-Gar mags? For every other pistol they are boringly reliable. They have a competition 1911 mag line with a different follower and an extended baseplate for like $22.
  3. I'm just so impressed with Nils winning despite the, what, at least 5-8% minor penalty? Beating 2nd place at Nats by that amount is just amazing. Still, you'd need to be either unconcerned about being competitive, stupid, or getting paid to shoot A fudgecicle nobody but a few crayon chewers and winder likkers want. Nils winning is a testamant to his skill, not to the validity of choosing to shoot minor in hi-cap divisions.
  4. It sounds like my idea would work and could be sold as a gunsmithing tool, but that it would be too expensive and there is not much demand. I'm betting there are existing end mill bits that could be modified, and that a collet could be made for the shaft of the existing bit, instead of turning down bar stock to the diameter of a bull barrel. I think someone with a plan could turn out a dozen of these in a day. But there's still that pesky need for demand. So, maybe a retired machinist here on Enos will make a one-off for fun, and rent it out to members for some fun money or primers. I'm just planting the seed...
  5. With inexpensive 9mm 2011s coming to market, I like the idea of being able to convert one to .40 for Limited. The amount of material to remove from the breech face from a 9mm slide is very slight. It seems like someone or some company with a lathe could easily make an end mill bit that could be chucked into a cordless drill, where the cutting end has a pilot that self centers on the striker hole, the cutters are flush with the end of the bit so it can't cut any deeper than the existing breech face, and the shaft has the outside diameter of a bull barrel so that alignment can be achieved with the way the bit and the slide interface. After 60 seconds with the drill, and you'd have a .40 slide ready for a new barrel and extractor. Dumb? Already Exist? Brilliant?
  6. If it would fly at a level 2, then it better fly at a level 1. If you don't take advantage of the opportunity, someone else will and it will cost you stage points if it truly was a good opportunity. If I'm committing a Saturday to shooting a level1, I'm going to be serious about playing the game as competitively as possible, within the rules. It's a game of efficiency, I can't imagine leaving a legal opportunity to shave time on the table because of "what if the stage designer didn't think of it?".
  7. The Big R at the end of my street had primers for the first time today in 2.5 years!!! And, the guy behind the counter was willing to sell me whatever I wanted. I bought 500 CCI rifle primers and 2k remington SP. At $11/100 primers it wasn't cheap, but it's the first time I've seen SP for sale in the Denver Area in ages, and I was completely out.
  8. Reviving a dead thread to add to it... Ive been shooting my TS in Limited for years. I recently was lent an Atlas Artemis to shoot for a couple matches. I hate to say it, but it just does everything better. For me, with zero dryfire, the improvement was dramatic. On hoser stages, the Atlas can be shot much faster, because of the trigger difference. When shooting fast, the 2nd shot is closer to the first, because of the trigger. Reloads are smoother, because of the shape, weight and finish of the mags. I don't really struggle with reloads with the CZ, but the difference was glaring. For me, I think I saw an instant roughly 6% gain, as an A class guy that shoots with the Ms. That is HUGE bump. Granted, the 2011 I borrowed sells for $6200 new, so I don't know what I would have thought of a more 'average' 2011. But, if it ever becomes not insane for me to spend $$$$ on a 2011, I think I'll be doing it.
  9. As are As, and a Bill drill at that speed is absolutely insane. No need to pooh pooh it. He clearly has that skillset on lock.
  10. My dad died of Parkinsons + dementia years ago. He wasn't into competitive shooting, but if he had been, he would have thought he could keep shooting long past when he could actually have safely participated. I recommend to any shooter that's been diagnosed early with diseases that will affect judgment: Give up the sport now, while you can own the decision. When the time finally comes when it's critical you give up the sport, your judgment won't be able to recognize it. That said, I've shot matches with people that were legally blind. Not joking. Walking stick and everything. More recently, I almost didn't give "Make Ready" to a shooter that was clearly having some physical difficulties I didn't understand. That person's partner assured me it was safe, and I chose to trust her. She was right, after the beep he shot like a champ. It's amazing what people can push through.
  11. I'm sorry you are dealing with this. I hope you can eventually get back to your previous activity levels.
  12. These have been out forever, and they used to make a .40 version. I think the consensus was that they weren't up to par for the kind of shooting we do. There's really old threads about them.
  13. I think the classification system is great for people starting out. Match results are nothing but defeating to someone new to USPSA. The bump from D to C to B is a great attaboy when the match results are depressing, and those bumps are tied to real gains in skill. I think these are the average USPSA shooter, and very few of them go to Nationals. So the people that care about the system won't be bothered by how the system plays out at the big matches.
  14. I've been saying for years that my CZ TS with the hinged trigger is no worse or better than a 2011. I'm thinking I might have been wrong though, because when I shoot my .45 1911 at the same speed, the front sight tracks more vertically and the holes in the target are closer together. So, now I honestly do think a 2011 in CO will become the most competitive option if they open the door to it, and it will be almost a compulsory purchase for those that are serious about CO. A big part of the fun of USPSA is the buying, tuning and tinkering. So if they change the rules, there's that upside. We all know now what motivates the BOD, so how could this rule change not go through anyway? The only reason it hasn't yet is probably they haven't worked out a sufficiently sweet deal with a manufacturer.
  15. I've seen Lin volunteer at a ton of level 2 matches, so that bodes well for an approach that isnt about weilding power or personal enrichment. Since the board changed the rules to neuter the pres position, I wonder what Lin can do or is willing to do to address corruption or incompetence *if he were to find any*. We will see!
  16. I'm really interested in this, but not in 9 sillymeter or a slide mounted optic. Unfortunately I can see them not making a .40, ever. Such a small market.
  17. I wonder how many others are like me, that found out about USPSA through the show Top Shot? Once I googled it and saw YouTube videos, I just had to try it.
  18. Bul Armory Government model. I think you need to spend almost double to get something better.
  19. Try starting your whole routine 2 hours earlier. Which is counterintuitive, but worth a shot.
  20. IIRC there are 2 set screws, over-travel and reset.
  21. 1st season was fun 80s horror movie throwback stuff, and really kept me interested. 2nd season, meh. 3rd season is great if you like really bad acting, or watching kids getting mutilated or deeply traumatized, the only payoff being some trite 80s nostalgia. I wanted to like it but couldn't. After a few episodes I wish the pizza delivery boy with the van would have been killed!
  22. I have the same thing with XL hands. I just hate a grip where my palm hangs off. Magwells make everything so much better!
  23. I'm not sure I agree. Most of the A-M people I know seem to hold that percentage at bigger matches, unless they got their classification a decade ago. I'm actually surprised at how accurate the system is.
  24. I've read this too from various sources. For steel challenge, it definitely doesn't matter.
  25. Dry fire is going to fix most of this. YouTube search "IPSC Dry fire" and pick videos that show a target and include the the "are you ready? standby!" commands. The repetition will make your draw, sight alignment and reloads become second nature.
