  1. I dialed back participation big time in the last 2 years, for a lot of reasons.  I started my own business, so work became more exciting.  I plateaued in skill, at least for the amount of time I was willing to practice, which was always close to zero.  I live in Colorado and I realized that I was spending so many weekends in a dirt hole of a shooting range, instead of seeing the beauty I'm surrounded by.  I bought a motorcycle and started exploring this past summer.  I actually shot half the stages at the State match and realized "I'm not actually enjoying this, and if I left now, I could go on an amazing ride for the rest of the day".  So I left.  What's funny is, early into dialing back participation, I shot better.  I finally made master in Limited.  But then the not touching a gun for two months and showing up for a match really started to show, and I dropped in the results.  Which made things a little less fun too. The USPSA organizational drama and the dying of Limited major also made shooting a little less interesting.

Oh well.  There are seasons in life.  I don't want to keep doing things the same way out of habit. I want to fill my time with whatever actually gives me the greatest return on investment. Right now it's other things. But I'll still shoot when I've got a buddy to shoot with or if I get the itch.

  2.   I shoot titegroup, so my pistols get a nice layer of black gunk inside.  Would an ultrasonic cleaner completely remove that crap, or would I have to go in with a brush afterwards to get the gunk off that was merely softened or loosened?

It's not a huge deal when you do the USPSA upload. They give you a checkbox that says "AJ Johnson used member number XXXXXX, which belongs to Aaron J Johnson. Please confirm that they are the same person."

As a MD and score uploader, I actually know who I'll have to confirm just based on experience. Similarly, if you register with a name that's remotely close to your actual one (and I know who you are), I'm just going to confirm it. The only issue I'd have is John Smith registering as Shooter McBlastyPants when I didn't personally know them because I'd have no way to connect those dots.

If my name was McBlastyPants and I was signing up for a Taco Bell eating competition, I'd register as John Smith.

  4. Carry optics is becoming cooler than Limited in the same way that

Being a sensitive guy with soft hands is becoming cooler than being John Wayne.

I don't know that I want to be cool, but I do want to compete with the heat.  It's just too bad it'll need to be with 9 sillymeter.  I'm getting one of my pistols milled for an RDS right now, but I don't know if I'll ever be motivated to learn to shoot a dot. I really hate 9mm, the soft recoil, the little baby bullets.  It's not part of that adrenaline rush ideal that I got into USPSA for years ago.

    Nice.

They don't appear to be marketing this as a target or competition pistol. Any thoughts on that?

I am down between this and a Shadow 2 Orange. If anyone has both and give an objective review between the two that would be great.

The only thing for me is I dont know how I feel about the single action only vs da/sa for home defense. Any thoughts on this fellas?

This is the wrong forum for discussing home defense stuff, and it would drift the thread.  There are other better places for that if that's your thing.  But this is a competition forum and that's the singular interest here.

Only that your minus 3 rounds.

Exactly, those 3 rounds end up being very precious on a lot of stages I see.  Enough so that a serious competitor wouldn't consider 40 minor.

LOL guys who say that are hilarious.

Your open mocking tone will drag this forum down.  I get annoyed at how closely moderated it is here sometimes, but I really appreciate that it's a place where things are almost always discussed with civility.

  8. There should be divisions for the pistols people aspire to own, so I agree that the prodigy type guns needed a place to compete.

But as a Limited major shooter, I lament the dilution of the competition across a ton of divisions.  It was exciting to shoot Limited years ago when everyone shot it. Now, not so much. Things change, so I guess I just need to learn to shoot a dot if I want to start enjoying USPSA again.  But with the volatility of the rules etc, it would be hard to know what to buy into. Definitely not a striker fired pistol, because what if they merged CO and LO next year?

Math is math.  If you can score more points than a major PF shooter in the same time or if you can score the same points faster, then you beat him.

But that would mean putting in the work.

So there's no disadvantage if you overcome the disadvantage that isn't there. Got it!

All these people buying the DWX, and no pictures!?! What in the wide world of sports is goin on here?

Pictures, or you don't really have one.

  10. Don't read this if you are wanting something upbeat...

If this is progressive, perhaps it would be good to start some hobbies than can continue well into the future.  No use starting something new that can just barely be done now, only to lose another closely held thing in the future. When my dad was diagnosed with Parkinson's, he started a lot of hobbies that he never was able to get off the ground of continue.

Generally speaking, I think a lot of people keep themselves super busy all the time as a subconscious way to distract from bigger more important things.  I could be wrong, but it may be that your real opportunity here is a chance to focus directly on things of intrinsic value and to look at some things you've been too busy to consider or contemplate.  Big stuff like mortality, the meaning of life, God, family relationships.  You know, the stuff we all need to sort out but will always get to "one day".

Well ,here we go....  the stage designers layout their stage's and they have the shooting areas clearly marked (foot faults) that they expect you (the shooter) to engage said targets from within these  marked shooting areas.... SO, we run outside the markers to gain a bit of advantage  and run back into the actual shooting area and engage  the other  targets from a shortened distance... Obviously, an advantage BUT not what was intended?, or what? Are we supposed to "out think " the designer to save a step or two and possible lose the match by not doing this ? ("monkey see, monkey do"). .... IF, that's the case, Just let me shoot from where ever I see an advantage and stop putting up those "boundaries.. Yes, I realize we are supposed to "solve" the the stages, but are we?..

Forget about trying to divine the stage designer's intentions, they really aren't important.  All you need to know are what is written about the stage and what is in the rules.  I've seen it a few times at a local, where the squad figures out a legal, 'creative', advantageous stage plan but there is one guy who knowingly shoots it the slower way like a martyr, to show he's not a gamer. While competing in a shooting game.

  12. A poll is NOT the way to find out, because people don't see or participate in polls.  The info is already there.  Just look at how many topics are Canik related and you have your answer.  Canik has pretty much taken over the "Other and Comparisons" category, making it hard to find anything "Other" than Canik.  Giving them their own section would just be good housekeeping.
