  1. I'm going to consider myself a pre-n00b, since I shot bowling pins and falling steel MANY years ago, and I'm just talking about shooting IDPA with an instructor friend. But, my favorite competition quote is "you can't miss fast enough to win". My second favorite is attributed to Wyatt Earp, something like "take your time, but do it quick". I'll keep watching and reading you guys to be ready for when I pull the trigger to shoot my qualifier. See what I did there...?

    Short funny jokes

Oops! "And that's when the fight started"!
  3. What do you call a guy with no arms & no legs at your front door? Matt. What do you call a guy with no arms & no legs in the water? Bob. What do you call a guy with no arms & no legs playing baseball? Home plate. What's Eileen's last name? Dover. What's Eileen's husband's first name? Ben.
  4. Illinois farmer Joe dies, and since his life was not-so-good, he heads "downstairs". After he's there for a few days, Satan comes by to visit, and asks Joe "Is it hot enough here for you?" Joe says "Hot? This ain't nothin! Did you ever cut hay in Illinois in July?" Satan can't let that go, so he turns up the thermostat and waits 3 days. Satan comes to see Joe again, and asks "So, hot enough for you now?" Joe says, "Hot? This ain't nothin. Did you ever bail hay in Illinois in August?" Well Satan's really getting steamed, so he turns the thermostat all the way up, and waits a week. Next visit Satan asks, "So, how's it now?" Joe says "This ain't nothin. Did you ever stack hay in Illinois in August?" Well, Satan's stumped, until he decides to flip the thermostat all the way to the other extreme, and waits two weeks. Satan stops to see Joe, who's stamping his feet, clapping his hands and arms together, and just trying to keep his circulation going. Satan asks "So, wise guy! How's the weather now!?" Joe says "Wow! What happened? Did the Cubs win the pennant?"
  5. The lady with one leg shorter than the other? Named Ilene? Works at IHOP? Her last name is Dover. Her husband's first name is Ben. Two guys walk into a bar. The third guy ducked. Two Chicagoans are talking about technology. One says "I got one of them new-fangled DVRs yesterday, but the thing's broken." His buddy says "Broken how?" First guy says "When I set it to record "Biggest Loser", all I get is the Cubs games."
  6. Mine was a S&W745, shooting bowling pin matches at the LGS/indoor range in the late 80s. Paid $410 for that gun (wholesale) with adjustable sights. Added a threaded comp later. Still have it, still shoot it and still love it. In the will to my 1st son-in-law, he can REALLY shoot that gun! Come to think of it, my second was a Springfield Armory 1911 in 38 Super (medium-bore pin-set, big-bore velocity, you know ). Added a Wichita 2-port bushing comp later, still have that one too. Starting to see a pattern here...
  7. Well, I'm in the Midwest, and I want my global warming! I'm told that I worked for it, and I'm certainly paying for it, so when does it arrive?!
  8. Similar question: I'm brand-new to EAA and CZ pistols, so please be kind. I'm not a competitor, I just enjoy shooting high-quality pistols at my own range. I just purchased a Witness Elite Limited in 10mm, and it only comes with one (1) mag so I'm trying to find more. EAA tells me they sell a 3-mag pack for $75 (EAA #101945), which seems fair. However, the Elite Limited mags require a different base-plate which is @ $39 (EAA #102037)! Any suggestions?
  9. I'm new to the forum, and I'm loving this thread! Thanks for all the laughs! I have two for you, one of which I'm sure we've all heard some version of about Black Talon ammo: 1) At my LGS: "That stuff's so bad-a** it's been banned in 49 states! It's only legal in Alaska to protect against bear attacks". 2) Conversation between a condescending clerk at Cabela's, and my 5' 7", 100-lb daughter showing her gun-newbie girl-friend the 44 Magnum ammo she enjoys shooting through my Desert Eagle: Clerk: "Do you ladies know what you're looking at? That's an awfully powerful caliber for females". Daughter: "If you mean this 240-grain Jacketed Hollow Point that leaves the 6" barrel of my Desert Eagle MkVII at about 1,200 feet per second, and generates close to 1,200 foot-pounds of energy, then yes, I know what I'm looking at". Clerk: "Oh. Well I'm surprised you haven't broken your wrist! That gun recoils like a mule". Daughter: "Yeah, not so much. Due to the gas operation, muzzle flip is much less than the 8" barrel 629 I shoot sometimes". Clerk walks away shaking his head. First smart thing he did...
  10. Greetings, all! EAA possible here. I was directed to this forum by a trusted friend who is a self-proclaimed "CZ nut". So, I'm in the process of weeding-out low- and mid-tier pistols and reinvesting in upper-tier models. I have a number of 1911s, and they fit me well, but I have a 10mm-sized hole in the collection so I'm considering an Elite Limited, mostly due to the poor availability of choices among 1911s in 10mm. One primary concern is that all my 1911s include flat mainspring housings, which fit my hand best, but I notice that the Witness pistols seem to have more of an arch to the backstrap. I've held my buddy's CZ, and it feels great and points properly, but I haven't fired one yet. I generally don't like to tinker with my pistols, so I'm not overly interested in the "just buy it and fix it later" perspective. Other concerns are mostly along the lines of long-term durability with the "heavy" 10mm round, and availability of spare mags, etc. on the open marketplace. Any insights from your experiences? Thanks in advance!
