Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I like your approach of trying both. Like you I was a little disappointed to find out that the "8 station" only held 5 dies. That does not mean I do not appreciate the advantages of pocket swaging and priming on the downstroke. I have chosen to keep the powder check and use the Lee crimp and seat die. If I am running a batch for an important match where I want absolute best accuracy then I back off the crimp, reset the seating and run them through a Lee factory crimp die on my single stage. This has worked well for me with jacketed, Blue Bullets and Black Bullets. I used to use the RCBS Lock Out die for powder check but switched to the DA magnetic version as it gives me the warning without stopping the stroke. Trying different approaches is good, there is not a right or wrong answer but for me I chose to keep the powder check.
  2. The 8 round capacity seems clearly to make sure they can include 1911 based compacts, ya think? Otherwise they would have to add another division to accomodate the 1911 folks. And that was probably why optics did not make it, you would have needed an optics division for each class or else listen a lot of moaning from whoever felt left out. I agree that the bottom of the box is the part that sits on the table. The IDPA box dimesnions say that is the "depth" dimension and therefore that should be the bottom of the box. (But I agree that IDPA could have said "there will be a 1/4" insert in the bottom to make the box dimensions A x B x C, +/-1/16 inch in each dimension". Lord know clubs could not afford to make another box! Now lets see how many manufacturers come up with new offerings designed for this new class. Sponsors are here to make money and IDPA does cater to the sponsors. The one question I did not see asked is wahy do they need a 1/4" spacer?? What guns are they trying to prevent from being used? There is obviously a reason why they felt the need to shallow up the box.
  3. I was at the match. I was not at the 2013 match but it was a Tier 4 match as listed on the IDPA site. I heard that the reason 2014 was dropped to Tier 3 was due to "open suadding" but the wording on squadding, air-gunning and arbitration is identical on the 2013 and 2014 COF documents. Does anyone think the classification issues are not present in some other matches including the Nationals? I had a great time at the match and look forward to attending future GADPA matches as well as IDPA matches.
  4. I received my XDs (45) back about three weeks ago and I am pleased with it. I appreciate that they included a complimentary 7 round magazine. No individual or company is perfect and I would suppose that the profit margins on those XDs pistols was pretty much consumed between the recall, freight, cost to rework, return freight, cost of the complimentary magazine, etc. I think they took responsible action by getting the pistols out of the field and back in their hands as soon as possible. I think they do care about both our safety as well as their bottom line. It is not mutually exclusive. In addition to Springfield I own Colt, S&W, Ruger, Glock and Taurus. I am not overly partial to any of them, just appreciate that running a business requires you to make tough decisions and not everyone is going to be happy with how things are done.
